We gave Mr. the investment upfront prior to doing any work and he agreed to the investment and approved us to proceed. He had the option to decline the work and did not. We operate off of a straight forward price guide and give all clients their investment before any work begins and get approval prior to starting the job. This was done. We are also set up to make a 20% profit. The company made $91.20 off of this job.

The agreed price of repair was changed without my knowledge (due to my poor English) and I was charged a lot more than I anticipated.
The installation of washer/drier machines was estimated to be charged $685.77(signed on 4/20/20) and was scheduled for 4/23/20. The installation was done poorly and all pipes became detached from the wall they were originally attached to. All pipe connections were loose and flimsy. We asked them to come back to repair the bad job they had done. During the wait time, our washing machine slipped and dislocated the pipes that were poorly attached to the drywall. No piping was damaged. Only the poor attachment to the drywall was pulled out. We asked Affordable Plumbing to reattach the pipes and fasten and secure the loose connections, to which they agreed to do for a little additional charge ($300 repair). Repair was done on 4/24/20.

When all work was done, my wife signed the paper without reading it (poor English), but paying attention to the total to be charged which was originally stated to be $985.77 (my calculations: $685.77 installation, $300 repair). Before she was given her copy, the amount on the bill was changed and additional $89 service fee and $525 were added to the bill, $985.77 was crossed out and a new amount of $1,599.77 was written in. The changes were done without notifying my wife or me since there are no our initials by the new amount written on the invoice. That amount was charged to my debit card which was a shock to me since the agreed amount of installation and repair was $985.77. In addition to that, we are VIP clients and service fee should be $0 per their contract. I attempted to contact (with my grandson's help) Affordable Plumbing to resolve the misunderstanding, to which they threatened me with the court due to one of the workers getting hurt during the installation. Well, no one got hurt while being in my house, so their threat is looked at as very malicious and it seems they are taking advantage of the fact that I am new to the state of Alabama and have poor English.
All I wanted from them was to resolve the issue with extra charge which we didn't agree to and which, in my opinion, was fraudulently added to the bill (I can provide the invoice showing that) after it was signed. Instead of talking to me to somehow resolve the issue, they ended up threatening me with the court for something that had never happened taking advantage of my lack of communication skills in English.

Desired Outcome

I would like to receive the extra money Affordable Plumbing charged me without my acknowledgement back. I did agree to pay $985.77 and that's the amount I was supposed to be charged. I'd like to get $614 ($1,599.77 - $985.77 = $614) refunded back to me.

We were called out by the nephew or son I'm not to sure because the homeowner could not speak English. When we arrived we went over what the problem was and gave them the options of what would need to be done. The nephew told us to go ahead with the work. We performed the work and as we were cleaning up because we were done the homeowner came in the laundry room and started to move the washer and it was to heavy for him so he dropped it on our employee as he was trying to go in there and help him and ripped all of our work that we had just completed out of the wall. We explained to the nephew the one that spoke English what went on and explained that all though we feel bad about what the homeowner had happen to him we have to charge for what we did already and then charge again to redo all of this and a little more that he had damaged due to it not being our fault that all the plumbing was ripped out of the wall. He told us he understood and to go ahead and redo it all. When the homeowners were confused we tried to explain to them the best we could why we had to charge to redo all the work that we had already completed.

Joined VIP club, never used requested refund and was told that because they had to do follow up visit to work they previously done.
On November 27, 2019 your technician *** visited my home in Robertsdale as a part of your promotion for a "free" check up. I was very impressed with his professionalism and expertise. He did discover a damaged part on my unit and I gave him authorization to fix the issue. He did so and left my home leaving me information about your VIP program. On December 3, 2019 we had a very cold morning and when I engaged the unit for heat it did not seem to be heating. I contacted your office and was told that all the technicians were busy. When I explained the situation, I was told a technician would be out as a follow up to the work that was performed on my unit on November 27, 2019. Kendall did come out to check the unit and assured me it was working properly. I still feel it does not heat in the same way as before your crew performed service on it. At that time, I did decide to join your VIP club. I completed the information along with a voided check and sent them with Kendall. December 23, 2019 and February 3, 2020, $24.00 was deducted from my checking account. As of February 21, 2020, I had no contact from your company regarding my service, the water tank cleaning, nothing at all. I contacted your company and spoke with a young man who was only taking messages and assured me a manager would return my call. I did not receive that call but the following day *** called to set up a service call to do the water tank. I informed *** the same as I had informed the young man earlier that I just wanted to cancel the contract and have a refund issued. *** informed me that she would give the information to the bookkeeper. I waited another 2 weeks with not contact. When I called *** informed me the bookkeeper was the only one who could issue the refund. But she was out with her sick children and would take care of it when she returned. Another week passes and I receive a call from *** stating the bookkeeper had tried to call me (no missed calls from your company) and that she could refund the $48.00 to me, but she would have to charge me a service call for the follow-up visit Kendall did on December 3, 2020. I informed *** that was unacceptable and I had planned to make a trip to your office, but decided this letter as a formal request to refund my money would be a better alternative.

Desired Outcome

I request as stated above that my $48.00 be refunded immediately.

Our office has tried to reach Mr. prior to this to confirm his mailing address so we can refund his $48.00 but have not heard back from him. If he would call/email (***@affplumbing.com) and confirm his address the refund will be issued ASAP.

The only time they reached out to me was Friday 3/20/2020 after they received the certified letter I sent them. As stated in the original compliant they say they call but my call log shows no calls except for Friday 3/20/2020. I was unable to call back until Monday 3/23/2020, I spoke w/*** and verified my address. Upon disconnecting with her I checked my mail and there was a check from them made payable to ***, not my name, not the name on the contract and not the name on the bank account they were drafting. I called *** back and she asked what name I would like it in and I confirmed to her the name *** which is on the contract, account and bank account. As of today I have not received a corrected check. And again because of the poor customer service and handling of accounts, I still await the refund check.

We have many clients who go by a name that is not their given name. When Mr. did not answer the phone on 3/20/2020 our bookkeeper mailed a check to the address that was on the letter. Mr. did indeed call 3/23/2020 & requested that when the refund check was sent to him to be in another name. The check had already been mailed. We will be more than happy to issue another check. We will need the original check back and the bookkeeper will mail another check.

Business contacted me today 03/26/2020 requesting that I return the wrong check to them. It is not my responsibility to provide envelope and stamp at my expense to correct their error. Informed the company as to my intentions that they may send me a postage paid envelope with the correct check or send me one beforehand for me to return the check. As for customers using multiple names, my account was correct in the paperwork I sent them with a voided check and the checking that the funds were being pulled from. This is just another stall attempt by this company. They have other means, i.e. placing a stop payment on the check issued with a wrong name. But they do not want to inconvenience themselves. Again this company has no idea what customer service entails.

I have put the check in the mail, As for the companies response they are doing everything they can to satisfy me. I take offense to that. They could have issued the refund when I first requested it and not waited till I filed this complaint. But since filing the complaint 1) they could have ensured the check was properly filled out the first time, 2) they could have sent the correct check with the return envelope or placed a stop payment on the check and sent the replacement.

The check was mailed out to the company in the envelope they provided on April 1, 2020. As of todays date April 7, 2020 I have not received the replacement check.
