Mr*** entered an agreement with our company to supply a sunroom kit, for the customer to install himself.Affordable sunrooms designed six or seven cad drawings, and supplied the engineering for the sunroom kit.We also contacted our customers local building department several times to help with
the permitting process. We are now under the assumption our customer is now wanting to go with another company to save money. We put a lot of time and effort into this particular sunroom in order to come up with a design to separate the space into two rooms. Our customer will continue his project with another company as long as we return his depositAt this point in time we are not willing to do so.Wanting to cancel after finding a lower price happens all the timeAs any company, could not afford to do all the work we put into each and every one of our projects. Then have a customer say we want our monies back.We will continue to work with the customer in order to resolve this matter

we would be interested in the mediation with Mr***

Regards,
Barry [redacted]

I heard from the company again last week. They have agreed to pay for the footings and we are proceeding with the project.

[redacted] we thought it would be best to just forward the email communications we had with our customer in order to show we did everything we could to honor our agreement with this customer. The customers written complaint states we did practically nothing except take his money. These email will...

prove different. Including the attachments, drawings we spent a lot of time on and emailed to our customer to sign off on. We have responded to his complaint, on your web site. Please confirm to receiving this email. Thanks[redacted] Affordable Sunrooms  Mr. [redacted] attached are the preliminary drawings for you to look over the basic design. We have made several changes as discussed. The material agreement stated you would supply the conventionalBase wall although we decided to make it part of total room package. We can add the height to the sides at the tub although should consider keeping them all the same? Add the way you want the door to swing in on the 21’ wall.  Sincerely,

Mr. [redacted] entered an agreement with us contingent upon him selling off timber to a lumber company, in order to be able to purchase the sunroom from us. The whole project was put on hold based on this contingency written in the material only (kit) agreement for seven months. We then started communication again to design the custom solarium with a glass roof that would wrap around two sides of his existing house walls. This was an extremely difficult design especially with the customer wanting to design and build his own mufti level base wall to sit the solarium kit upon.We sent several different cad drawings to him. The communication back and forth over the phone was very frustrating because of his lack of understanding of how the solarium and his baseball would come together. We finally agreed to supply the base wall in order to less complicate doing the two together at no additional costs to our customer. We then sent final drawings for the customer to submit to the building department with objections as to what he would install the sunroom kit upon. The existing wood deck or concrete. We tried to explain the difference and he would need to get approval of either one from his building department. Because of the big disconnect between our customer and lack of his going to the building department to see what would be required to sit his kit onto. We suggested to refund his deposit. We did and he has every dollar and penny he paid to us. Because of all the time that went by, his needing to sell his lumber and the months of communicating back and forth with multiple cad drownings, the change order for us to supply the base wall at no costs. Our customer now wants to be paid interests on the deposit we returned to him $3,973.00. Saying we did nothing, no work, supplied no drawings, did not talk on the phone regarding the designs, base walls, how the two walls would connect, for over 25 hours of communication with our customer. Say we did nothing, and using being a vet is wrong.

This email is our latest response to our customers objections. We have gone over most of this with her prior to moving forward with the kit she chose. The skylights in the solid roof would of resolved the light issue and she still wanted to do the much more expensive glass roof.We also gave her the cost difference of what she would expect to pay to have the rooms installed, (by others).Still wanted the more expensive solarium over the patio room.Right now she would probably be close to the same price to have the other room installed, additional work etc. for the costOf the solarium kit.We are certain that if the customer were to consult with a construction law attorney and not a family lawyer, would advise her toExcept our offer. We know that there is more to her wanting to cancel than what the customer is wanting to say. Usually it's because they were talked outOf doing the more expensive custom glass roof and want to get out of their agreement with us for nothing or as little as possible and move forwardWith another company. This we will find out for certain when we follow up with the building department to find out a permit was issued. We as a company need to follow through with the terms and conditions of our agreements. The customer was able to get the permit, the planning departmentSigned off on it. So it's not because she could not , it has do with her not following through. The customer new of the extra costs including what she could expect toPay to have the room installed.

I had been wanting a solarium since I was a child and recently I was able to afford one so I decided to proceed with purchasing a sunroom/solarium kit with Affordable Sunrooms. It was a fairly large room (18' x 12' ) glass roof like I have always wanted. Of course buying one of these isn't like most purchases you make. It is highly technical and you need to do it right. I also decided to install it myself with the help of some contracting work for the concrete floor but other than that I did the installation by myself.
What I didn't do myself was have all of the details worked out from the manufacturer: from the drawings to the actual materials (glass type, frame type, all the engineering specs) prepared by Affordable Sunrooms and ready to go for me. This is where I relied on Martin (from Affordable Sunrooms) to take the wheel. He got me set up with the frame materials, cladding type, glass type for thermal enhancement glass for our northern climate (Western Washington State) that we wanted. He handled the manufacturing and the engineering specs for the permitting and kept the processing moving with the manufacturer so that all the materials would be correct and delivered without multiple shipments. The kit arrived by truck in a huge bundled kit with pallets for the glass and all the other frame and cladding materials. Surprisingly everything was there in one order. The entire kit weighed over a ton with all the glass and aluminum structure beams. It was ready to go so I started at page one in the manual and worked for a couple months during the scorching summer by myself. I would not recommend doing a large room like this by yourself but in my case that is just how it played out. If I had a couple helpers with a little construction experience and a foundation in place you could put it together in a couple weekends start to finish. The manual was pretty easy to follow for a first time builder of this type of room.
The room was 90 percent completed before the stormy weather arrived in September. The first storm hit hard with high wind and lots of heavy rain. Not one leak and I did not even have all of the cladding or the final sealants in place on the exterior. The wind was gusting to 50 mph but not so much as a whisp of air through the room when all the windows were closed. I was very surprised by this because the main part of my house actually had a small leak with this storm. I was able to complete the solarium before a second, bigger storm hit in late October. Even heavier rain and high wind and no leaks whatsoever. The water was literally flowing over the glass like someone had a hose open on the roof (I have video of this I sent to Affordable Sunrooms to post on their site).
Another amazing thing is that there is no temperature difference between the main house and the solarium when the French doors are opened. You expect to go into a large all-glass room and feel a chill but the glass is amazingly good at keeping the heat in which is what I wanted for the winter months. I was actually worried about keeping too much heat in during the summer. The room is attached to the south exposure and gets a lot of sun in the summer. If all the windows and doors were closed it indeed gets very hot in there but once one set of windows on opposite sides of the room or the main doors are opened it cools down into the 80s within 15 minutes. If all the windows are open it is the same temp as the outside air. All of the windows in my kit open (bi directional) and I got the kit with a large glass slider for an exit. There are many options that Martin will help with to help you get the style you want.
So now it is complete and I will install the landscaping and tile floors as I get time. The room we purchased is 220 square feet that is attached to the main house. I placed it on a concrete slab but you could install one on wood decking as well. The high wall is 9 feet and the low front wall is 7 1/2 tall.
We love the room and use it every day! I would recommend getting one or two if you have always wanted to have a solarium. It was well worth the investment for our family.
Another amazing story just briefly. In October I went into the solarium in the evening after dark and looked up through the glass roof and there was the full moon in a full eclipse over the house. It was breathtaking to see the moon in a full lunar eclipse through the glass ceiling while sitting in a reclining chair having coffee. We see meteors all the time now too when the sky is clear. Anyway I can go on and on....
If you are thinking of getting a solarium or sunroom I recommend working with Martin at Affordable Sunrooms to help you design and order the room you have always wanted. I spend all day in this room now - not because I have to any more - but because it has really enhanced our home and is a center piece to this part of our house.
Martin was so helpful and communicated with me at least on a weekly basis during the process. I still hear from him occasionally to see how things are going and if we still love the room. We do! Thanks Affordable Sunrooms....Thanks Martin !!

Review: I signed a contract for a sunroom. It specifically said if a building permit could not be obtained my deposit of $6300.00 would be refunded "immediately". I was not able to obtain the permit and asked for a refund in July 2015. I have contacted the company numerous times with telephone calls and emails. Most recently I talked with the representative yesterday and was told I would have an email within the hour. No email arrived. I called numerous times today and left 3 messages but my calls were not returned. I have not received a refund of my money. After over 2 months of numerous calls and contacts I am getting very frustrated. If this is not resolved very soon I will have to seek legal action.Desired Settlement: Affordable sunrooms needs to refund my money now.

She liked the design after several changes were made and decided to move forward and order the custom solarium. We promptly went to work on the permit drawings, and sent them to her to sign off on. We will try to help in any way we can during the permit process and decided to help, and called the planning department, and the building inspector, to see what they required for any additional documentation, prior to going to submit for the permit. At this time, we found out the existing 2- concrete piers for the deck would need to be replaced, because of changes to the building code. We called several places in her location for our customer in order to help expedite any additional work needed. Our customer then went to the building department and got the approval from the planning department. We contacted the customer several days later, to hear that she wanted to put the project on hold for a while. Then it went on for a year or two. Customer wanted to cancel all together, because they were unable to obtain the permit. We do put in our agreements that if a permit is not issued, all money will be returned. Although, in this case the permit would have been issued, had they agreed to do the modification, to the existing deck in order to bring it up to code. Customer had mentioned at one time they would probably have the son, do the work once we found out how big the new piers would need to be. We would never hold back a deposit if a permit was unable to be issued. We also have to protect ourselves, and put in the agreement, that custom solarium orders like this one cannot be cancelled. We have the customer initial this statement. We have over 40 hours into this project. If Companies, did not protect themselves using that clause in their agreement, and let anyone cancel at any time, would be putting Companies like us out of business. As stated from the beginning, our customer had two other companies out to see the job site, and one of them gave her an estimate needed to install a sunroom. Customer could have had two more out since, and decided to go with one of them instead. This happens all the time, and is why we have to use this clause in our agreements. We have been communicating with the customer since this complaint was filed, in order to work out this agreement. We feel we have done everything we could to work with this customer.

Response:

I heard from the company again last week. They have agreed to pay for the footings and we are proceeding with the project.

Review: I ordered a sunroom kit from Affordabel Sunrooms, LLC and Mr. [redacted], Sr. who is the owner and proprietor. In good faith and in order to obtain the free shipping "before it expired" (according to Mr. [redacted]), I paid a deposit of $$3,973.00.

Mr. [redacted] and his company failed to provide any of the documentation they promised for me to obtain a permit for the sunroom. They failed to have any of the representatives they promised to have come visit the sit, confirm the order, and finalize the plans do so. After well over a year Mr. [redacted] contacted me and stated that, in accordance with the contract, he was going to refund 100% of my deposit. After what is approaching another year I still have not received my refund. Mr. [redacted] continues to make false statements in regard to this situation.

First he said "the company (Affordable Sunrooms) required I resubmit my application for a refund with a "wet" signature. Then he claimed that his suppliers took the deposit monies from him and improperly kept them. Then he stated they were being returned to him and over a series of months promised my refund was either sent to going to be sent. This past week he stated he had sent my full refund by US mail. The letter arrived today and only contained checks totaling $1,000.

I have consistently been mislead, deceived, and lied to in regard to this order for which neither Mr. [redacted] or Affordable Sunrooms are deliberately avoiding providing me the refund. The contract is very clear in this regard as is their commitment to return the funds.

My wife and I are both disabled veterans (I have a 90% VA disability rating) and this room is essential to house prescribed physical therapy equipment we have been unable to adequately use.

Mr. [redacted] and Affordable Sunrooms has done nothing in this matter but mislead, lie, and inappropriately withhold our refund.

There is more than enough documentation available to support this.Desired Settlement: Immediate refund of the remaining $2,973.00 from our deposit and the interest accrued during the year+ they inappropriately withheld that refund in violation of the contract and their agreement.
