AIMS Machine Shop Reviews (1)

I had my [redacted] (1993 T-100) engin rebuilt by Aims invoice # 36480. It started steaming in late Dec. 2013 I thought it was a head gasket, so I waited until I had the money and started to replace the head gaskets this May 2015. After pulling the heads I noticed that someone had tapped into the block and the head on the right side. They had put a sleeve on the head and block. In order to make a tread for the head blot. The sleeve worked its way up and made the motor start steaming. After talking to [redacted] at Aims, he checked the heads and said they were good, so he came out to look at the block. He told me how to try and fix it, but I am not a mechanic and have already damaged both cams. So I called him back and he said to bring in the motor and he would fix it for me. But like I stated I am not a mechanic and do not have the tools or the know how to do that. I already pay for this service, [redacted] Mobile Mechanics took out the motor and took it to Aims the first time then put it back together. After spending over $4500.00 the first time I think they should come out and at least and put the whole motor back together sence I had to buy new cams and head gaskets already. There work should have a 50,000. mile warranty sence all the first motor got 30,000. miles.Desired SettlementI would like my truck running again. I can not take the truck to them as it has a non op on it. So I would like to have them repair it with a warranty of 50,000. miles or refund my money I already paid, so I can have another mechanic do the work they should have.Business Response [redacted] has presented some facts but has left out many more that are pertinent to this situation. First AIMS INC. did not do this engine for [redacted] but was contracted to[redacted] mobile to do this engine. [redacted] should be speaking to[redacted] mobile about warranty consideration. Secondly this engine was rebuilt over five years ago and is certainly out of warranty. AIMS INC. warranty is "12 MONTHS or 12 THOUSAND MILES WHICHEVER COMES FIRST". AIMS INC. warranty is also an out of chassis warranty as we cannot work on vehicles due to insurance coverage nor is AIMS INC. an auto repair shop. [redacted] states he broke his cams. AIMS INC. does not warranty damages caused by others. [redacted] demands extended warranties when he didn't pay for them at least not to AIMS INC. In spite of these facts AIMS INC. has offered to help [redacted] repair his engine at no cost to him. [redacted] will have to remove the engine and deliver it to AIMS INC. for repair. Apparently he is not willing to do this. At this time AIMS INC. will offer to repair this for an additional 30 days. After that [redacted] is on his own.Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)I have talked to [redacted] mobile and he said that AIMS did all the rebuild on this engine. He could not get this motor running and had to have [redacted] come out to [redacted] with a trailer and take the truck with the engine in it back to Reno to work on it and get it running. So why can't he do that now? I have all the new parts already he just needs to put it back together. As far as the warranty it was on the work of the rebuilt engine, not the block and head that was tapped and then sleeved. The engine would not have to be redone if AIMS had not done shoddy work. I have contacted many other certified mechanic that all have said this is not the right fix and this type of work should never have happened.[redacted] mobile should not have to repull the engine and take it back to AIMS as he has already done this once and I should not have to pay for this service again. All I want is to have them fix the engine and have the orginal warranty as this sleeve AIMS tapped into the block and head worked its way up to cause the gasket to not sit right and that is what caused it to steam. And if AIMS is not willing to repair or fix the problem they caused, they should have to pay for a mechanic to fix it right.Final Business Response Ditto on first reply and as stated previously, AIMS INC. warranty is an out of chassis warranty 12/12 which ever comes first from completion of invoice date! AIMS INC. cannot seem to appease this person so it will no longer offer to repair this engine nor will AIMS INC. comment any further on this matter.
