Airdrie Rods & Restoration Reviews (%countItem)

I have been trying to sell my 79 Lincoln so we could get extra cash into our home so we wouldn't have to struggle so hard.

On August 5,2018 I went to 809 McCool St and talked to Dave about my 1979 Lincoln ***, black in color. I asked Dave if they could install 3- 1/8" rubber tubes to the location where they belong. The tubes were already attached to the correct places at one end but not the other. The vacuum tubes have different functions on this car such as keeping the head-light covers open when driving and closed when not in use. Very simple job should take max 1/2 hour labor and no parts required.

I also requested to my the carburetor adjusted as it was idling to fast at aprox 8 to 900 rpm and normal is about 4 to 500 rpm. Dave said they could. This should take about 1/2 hour of labor and no parts as other mechanics suggested these time frames.

Airdrie Rods & Restoration Ltd. Labor rate is $110.00 per hour and my time frame was to allow 1 hour as I am 71 years of age and the only income I have is my pensions at $*** per month.

Dave right away said he needed at least 3 hours to complete the work requested. I was shocked to say the least and knew he was overcharging for the work required to complete the work. I mentioned to him to go ahea and I would have to borrow the money to pay the bill and told him no more the 3 hours max. Dave called later that day and said he would need another hour and he would keep the car overnight and it would be ready the next day and very hesitantly I agreed to the extra hour now a total of 4 hours that should take 1 hour.

The next day I went to Airdrie Rods & Restoration Ltd.to pick up my car and it was ready as Dave said. I went into his office to pay the bill and to my HORROR and SCHOKE my bill was Invoice # *** dated July 31/2018 for the extreme amount of

$577.50 + $57.75 for shop supplies (and he didn't use any) for a total of $667.01. I got very loud and angry for stealing my money I don't have. Had borrowed a thousand so I paid him Cash. Dave offered to me a settlement payment of $600.00. and I paid him. I went to my car to drive it home and the motor started and was nor running at aprox 1800 t0 200- rpm and if I were to put it into reverse or drive the transmission, u-joints or something would break. I shut down the motor and went into his shop and he was in the back and didn't want to come out to see me. I insisted and eventually came out and I was furious. He had *** to ask my what I think he should do about the problem and I told him to un-do the high rpm and he said he would. I came back later that afternoon to pick up the car and to my astonishment, He had another bill for me invoice # *** dated August 16/2018. (did you note all the different date's ?) $ 86.83 and that should have been my first bill.

I was very angry at Dave and his business and so I left the office to drive the car home and again to my astonishment, the car wouldn't start. I had to wait for my wife to come and bring the other vehicle and we had to tow the car home and to this day we have not had the car running. My wife and I want all the money back we paid Dave & Airdrie Rods & Restoration Ltd.

Airdrie Rods & Restoration Response • Mar 06, 2019

Initial Business Response /(1000, 5, 2019/02/04) */
We spoke to the customer on August 7, 2018 when he came into the shop to get an estimate for work to be done and book his vehicle in for August 14, 2018.
On the 14th we went through work to be done with the customer, explaining that the old, cracked and hard hoses needed to be replaced and re-routed for proper operation of all the car's vacuum operated options. Carburetor would need to be assessed and possibly adjusted. An estimate of three (3) hours labour was given and customer Okayed the work.
During the afternoon of August 14 the customer was called and informed that the carburetor was worn out and needed to be replaced. We said we would try and adjust/setup as best as possible. At that time we had most of the hoses/lines re-routed and/or replaced. While setting up the carburetor, when the vehicle was running, the engine stalled and would not start again. We called the customer again to keep him informed. The customer came to the shop right away to confirm what we had told him. We showed him that the ignition had no spark. We requested one (1) more hour to diagnose the issue. Customer Okayed. After that hour was up we were told to figure out why there was no spark in the ignition. We diagnosed that the ignition module failed and replaced it with a spare provided by the customer. We got the engine running, set up the carburetor the best as possible, made sure all vacuum operated options were working, which took an additional 1.25 hours. While we were test driving the vehicle it ran out of fuel, 10L of fuel was put into vehicle.
On August 15 we performed minor adjustments to high idle and air conditioner idle up solenoid and test drove the vehicle again.
The customer picked up his vehicle on the afternoon of August 15 and was back within an hour saying he wasn't happy with how it was running/driving. We told him we had done what we could without replacing the carburetor. The customer requested that the vehicle be returned back to the way that it was when it was dropped off. We told the customer that it would have to be sorted out the next day.
August 16 the vehicle was returned back to the way it was when it came in, however we left the ignition module in that we had replaced). We test drove the vehicle again and contacted the customer for pickup. Unfortunately when the customer came to pick up the vehicle it had run out of fuel again and wouldn't start. No additional fuel was added after the original 10L because the customer was concerned with costs.
The customer was invoiced on August 15 for 5.25 hours plus shop supplies. All hours were approved by the customer before work was performed. Shop supplies are used on all vehicles that come into the shop. These include brake clean, rags, etc. that are used in performing the work on vehicles. We also used vacuum hoses that were charged out under shop supplies. The incorrect date was an unfortunate oversight in our invoicing process and we apologize for the error.
The customer was invoiced a second time on August 16 for the time that it took to return the vehicle back to its original condition as per his request. When the customer indicated that he wasn't happy with the amount of the two invoices we compromised and took the amount of the shop supplies off the bill. It's unfortunate that the customer feels that we stole his money as we take great pride in taking care of our customers, working with them to ensure that they feel they received superior service and an equally great product from us. The customer was given ample time to say that he didn't want the work to be performed. This is the reason we give estimates before any work is performed and updates are given throughout the process.

Initial Consumer Rebuttal /(3000, 7, 2019/02/08) */
(The consumer indicated he/she did not accept the response from the business.)
First his dates are wrong again, I have his card, his hand writing dates Aug 6/18 to work on my car. After explaining what the car needed, he saw t6he motor and said , I WAS EXPECTING ALOT WORSE AS ONLY 3 TUBES WERE NOT IN PLACE AND THEY WERE NOT OLD, CRACKED OR HARDENED. He said he found 2 more tubes not in place.I purchased a complete carb kit from *** and sent the carb to a licenced mechanic friend near Taber and he rebuilt the carb and said i9t is in vg condition. I placed 20 litres of gas into the tank before bringing the car to Dave, It was NEVER out of gas.. I purchased a new ignition module from *** $18.95 as a mechanic collecting 1979 Lincolns said replace the module and I did. Then Dave replaced my new module with my old one that wasn't working and said my new one is no good. Never once did Dave tell me he had to add gas to the car. The gauge does not work properly. When I asked him to undo the his work was to reset the carb back not anything else as the motor was revving to high. ANYONE can see that Airdrie Rods over charges with extreme to charge $683.63 work making your car worse then when it came in, even a blind man isn't that stupid. I am very angry especially they treat their customers with care.
