Review: Airtronix was contracted to complete insulation and air sealing work in the attic, basement, crawl space, and garage areas of our home following an energy audit that we had completed to gain efficiency in our home. [redacted] the owner, represented that the work was completed and was paid in full ($4,525 + an additional $300 for work that was not contracted but [redacted] stated was needed for additional insulation, air sealing, and venting of a fan). After a more thorough inspection by us, the homeowners, we found that [redacted] blatantly misrepresented that air sealing work to our duct work and ceiling registers was complete when it had not been done at all. He also neglected to seal our basement rim joist as stated in the contract. He did not complete the foil wrap in our crawl space area that was outside of plain sight. He hired a subcontractor to blow in insulation in our attic to R-49 and wrap our adjoining walls to the interior. They failed to blow in insulation to R-49 per the contract, misrepresenting the work by folding down the measurement guide for insulation to appear that the work was completed. The wall wrap was not sealed at the opening/seams or at the floor to protect from air seepage into the adjoining room. The contracted work is approximately 50% incomplete.

I have made attempts to work with [redacted] to complete the work as contracted but he has neglected to commit and frequently changes his mind about how he will address. I am now seeking other alternatives to address this matter and pursue a refund.Desired Settlement: I would like a 50% refund of the amounts paid to [redacted] as contracted of $4525.00/2 = $2,265 refund. Plus, the return of $300 additional refund for work that [redacted] misrepresented was completed but also above and beyond what we agreed. I am seeking a total $2,562.50 refund from Airtronix Inc. to resolve this matter without legal action.

I am rejecting this response because:

I had a test-out energy audit by an official ECA inspector on 3/20/2013 as [redacted] insisted to determine the quality of work and any gaps in our contract. The inspector found issues beyond what I, the less experienced homeowner, originally identified. Based upon the auditors official determination of quality and completion percentage, the work is determined to be 70% incomplete and of poor quality. As such, I am seeking $3,200 to close this and any other complaints against Airtronix concerning this matter. Please note, to correct and complete the work contracted with Airtrinox it has been estimated at $5,700 by another contractor, which is above and beyond the amount that I am seeking in return from [redacted]. This is a fair settlement for both parties.
