I recently had construction done on my garage and a new roof installed on my home almost a year ago. Its been many storms later and I couldnt be more pleased.

We have a 30 year roof with them and less then 3 years we have a leak from something they didn’t seal. Now we have damage in our home that they say they are going to fix. They have said multiple times they would come by and don’t show or show so late and don’t do the work. We can’t contact because voicemails are full. We go by and talk to *** and he assured me it would get fixed. Mold is starting to grow and cause health dangers for my family

In the case of The ***, A&J Construction roofed a rent house owned by the couple. Along with the work was a 5 year warranty on workmanship should there be an issue due to improper installment or anything of the sort. I contacted the renter and scheduled an appointment for the following day , I made the appointment but because I had not called prior to arriving the renter didn't think I was going to show up and left the residence. I knocked and waited around eventually contacting her by phone when she told me she had left to run errands because she didn't think I was coming. I rescheduled another time and was met by the renter took a look at the issue and made my notes and material list. I made another appointment to make the repairs on that day there were some problems on another jobsite so I called to inform the renter that I would be late and would be there at 11:30am ,an hour and a half later than originally planned, and she agreed. I showed up at 11:39am and again the renter up and left to run errands. So I returned later between appointments and caulked around a few potential problem areas. Telling the renter I was between appointments and would have to come back the following day but that I would be there. Mrs. came by the shop early the following morning and I explained the whole situation with the scheduling. My boss then asked about the contract and said that the roof was installed before Hurricane Harvey and that the issues stemmed from the high winds impact on the roof and not the workmanship itself. We did not charge for any repairs or any or materials. Not a single dime was charged to Mr and Mrs

(from what I can from his spelling his last name is ***) Project Manager A & J Construction charged $4140 on 8/7/18'. The paper work
states 'WE PURPOSE HEREBY TO FURNISH MATERIAL AND LABOR, COMPLETE IN ACCORDANCE WITH ABOVE SPECIFICATIONS, FOR THE SUM OF:
$4140.00 … We had all ready purchased the majority of the shingles, drip railings, & wood as well as removed the old shingles. On 8/11/18 *** said we were 4 square short on shingles. On 8/11/18 we were charged an additional $239.80 for 4 sq supreme shignle as well as $480.00 LABOR INSTALL SUPREME SHINGLE.. The project manager all ready gave us a price of $4140. to complete the roof work but then he charges us an additional on 8/11/18. Which I have receipts to verify. Their first day of work the workers left their personal trash as well as work supplies laying all in our yard not to mention the trash that blew into our neighbors yards.

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because:

The pictures are just a few of the poor workmanship left behind by A&J Construction. *** the owner is aware of this. He said he would send someone to replace the poorly fitted wood left by employees as well as properly replace the rotten fascia left by his employees, as well as paint the trim considering his employees tore off the paint on some of the trim. BUT HE NEVER HAS sent anyone...Enclosed is an A & J *** proposal that clearly states "WE PURPOSE HEREBY TO FURNISH MATERIAL & LABOR. COMPLETE IN ACCORDANCE WITH ABOVE SPECIFICATION, FOR THE SUM OF $4140.00. WHICH WAS PAID. Then the project manager added $239. for 4 sq of shingles, 2 boxes ridge vents for $129.80 on top of the additional $480 for labor .. THAT TOTAL OF 849.60 SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED IN THE ORGINAL CHARGE OF $4140.00. WHICH *** SAID HE WOULD ALSO REFUND.

Regards

Ms *** and I had made an arrangement in which A&J Construction would shingle her roof. I had met with Ms. about a 10 days prior to this arrangement at that time I had given her a bid for a complete Removal and Replacement of her roof in which she told me she was happy with the estimate and would get back with me within a few days after she spoke with her boyfriend. More than a week had past before I heard again from Ms.. The next time I had heard from her she called and was upset. She told me that she had left out of town the week prior and during that time her boyfriend had hired someone else to do the roof. She said that the person her boyfriend had hired knew nothing about roofing and that she ran them off and cussed out her boyfriend before running him off as well. She apologized to me saying she had no idea that her boyfriend had hired someone else and that she didn't think he would move forward with the roof in her absence. She pleaded with me to please help her because she now had a roof that was torn off and partly felted in. On top of that we were expecting heavy rain within the next 48-72 hrs. I agreed to meet with Ms. that afternoon and was at her residence with a couple of hours. When I arrived she was waiting outside for me. It was very overt that she was upset and very worried. Again she apologized for the whole mix up and expressed her gratitude that I agreed to meet up with her and on such short notice. Seeing how emotionally distressed and agitated she was I patiently listened while she vented. I looked up towards the torn off roof and noticed the felt had been laid wrong, it had been laid so that the area between the felt and decking would retain water rather than roll off. It was then that I agreed that whoever was there didn't know what they were doing. As Ms. and continued talking she told me that the guys her boyfriend had hired had already bought the materials to complete the job and upset the materials were just sitting there. It was then that we we made the agreement that if she provided the materials we would handle the labor. So I pushed back the next job in line to move Ms. to the front of the line due to the urgent nature. We started the following morning starting with properly re-felting the roof. Second day in we noticed that we were running short on shingles and started to get nervous because we could see the dark clouds coming our way. We took a count of the bundles of shingles on site, took measurements of remaining square footage, and applied the math to give us the amount of materials we needed to complete the job. I then told Ms *** that we were going to be 5 squares short materials and she said she would get ahold of her boyfriend and that she would take care of it. The owner of A&J Construction was on site and remembered that we had 2 roofers squares of the exact shingles we needed, same brand and color at our shop roughly 7 minutes away. Round trip should take no more than 20 minutes and the others would have to come from McCoys and since we were pressed for time because of the oncoming weather. He sent one hand to our shop and another to Mccoy's while everyone else continued to shingle.Waiting on materials could have potentially caused unnecessary damage to the interior of the house. We finished the job and as the crew was rolling up I went to present the invoice to Ms.. The invoice was for the cost of labor as well as cost of the shingles purchased by A&J Construction needed to complete the job. I knocked on the door and there was no answer, I walked off and returned roughly 15 minutes later and knocked again still no answer so I decided to call. Ms *** answered and said she would be out shortly, 20-25 minutes later Ms. came out and when I presented her with the invoice which included the cost for the additional 5 squares needed she was upset. She then began to ask questions like "how do I know your not just trying to charge me extra for work not even done" and "why didn't you let us buy the material". I then showed Ms. the receipt to Mccoy's with the date, time, and purchases. Being that we only purchased 3 squares from McCoys and got the other 2 from the shop I agreed to only charge for the 3 that could be proven thru the receipt along with the labor for the installation for sake of argument. This was then paid by her boyfriend and we parted ways. About a week or so later our Facebook page designer contacts us with some of the comments Ms. was posting. The owner of A&J Construction told me to just give her the few hundred she felt we wronged her back it wasn't worth the headache or bad publicity. I attempted to contact Ms. a number of times so that we could resolve any and all issues.I told her I was more than willing to meet up with her and her boyfriend at her house at their earliest convenience but every time I spoke with her she would yell and scream and eventualy hang up the phone on me. There was then an agreement between my boss and Ms. in which the money for the extra squares would be returned and all would be forgotten, a check was written out and cashed by Ms..
