AKM Contractors, Inc. Reviews (1)

Review: We signed a contract with AKM Contractors to replace the roof and gutters on our home and garage. On 6/21/13 the new gutters were installed during a day resulting in afternoon storms. Our neighbor watched as a different set of men (not those who installed the roof) completed a rush job, installing the new gutters before the storm hit. When I contacted [redacted] (the owner) the next day and informed him that the new gutters were leaking in three out of four corners, he came out and recaulked them. He indicated that there was standing water in the gutters, but assured us that the second caulking would solve the problem. It did not. After the next rain a few days later, two corners of the gutters still leaked. I contacted [redacted] again, and he came out and caulked both the inside and outside of the gutters. He said he consulted with a gutter company, who told them the gutter downspout on the SW corner was improperly installed, and therefore the standing water would always be a problem. I asked him what he was going to do about that and he said "that's the way it is, unless you want me to pull all the gutters down and do it again." He said to let him caulk one more time, since it was dry outside, and that should take care of the problem. It did not; the gutters continue to leak. After two attempts at repairing the leaks without success, [redacted] no longer takes my calls. I have left three voicemail messages for him in the last 10 days explaining the situation, and he has not returned a call.Desired Settlement: We would like the new gutters to work like new gutters should. They need to be installed correctly so they no longer leak. It seems as though his "repairs" which consisted of recaulking again and again, are not the answer to the problem. The gutters do not drain properly, as indicated by constant standing water. If the company is no longer willing or able repair the gutters, then we would like to be reimbursed for the gutters and we will consult with another contractor to have new gutters installed correctly.

Business

Response:

First I've been in business for 20 years and done over a 1000 roofs and have never had a complaint.

Most of my re-roofs are referrals as this one was. Meetings and signing of contract went great they liked who I

was which pretty much everybody does. They loved the roof ,we replaced the aluminum gutters and soffit and

facia also. She came home from work one day and didn't like the way the facia looked and I told her wait until

the gutters are on it will look different, she questioned me but when she came home the next day she was completely satisfied. Also we were the company that did the complete job , we don't subcontract. For some reason she somehow thought someone else were installing the facia and gutters. The gutter issue is like this ,yes there was a bad storm coming and some of the caulk didn't take that day. We came back the next day to finish the gutters because of the storm. As far as the gutter flow on the one concerned end her husband had me put the downspout in a different location which effected the drainage, they argued between themselves .He said leave it where it is, I could see there was friction between the two so I said I'll put it back to the original location but I would have to charge for that new section of gutter. As far as the leaks, they were on a couple of the corners ( miters ). One of my guys re-caulked the corners and she called and left a message saying one was still leaking so I went there to caulk it 7/20. It should be ok. I know in my business experience we will run into a customer that will sometimes be hard to please no matter what, but the last time for me its been about 15 years ago . I did confront the husband one time and asked him if there was something I did wrong and he just kind of walked away. In all I feel I did this job as good as all my other satisfied customers but I was treated rudely and I did not treat them like that. I really do expect this issue to be erased from my Revdex.com status.

Thank you, [redacted]
