Recently we had an oil change at the Lube Stop in Austintown, Ohio We asked the attendant to check the transmission fluid He went under the car to check the level and said it was full After this the brake light came onWe told the attendant that and then we left We had had no trouble with the brakes before that After we left the brakes started to go We stopped the car and pumped the brakes, but they did not feel right My husband was sick so I decided to try to go home, which was not far The brake pedal then went to the floor, the car shot across the street and hit a wall and pole, flipping over We ended up at the hospital in two ambulances
I asked for a diagnostic on the car, but instead an officer went to the towing service where the car had been taken, *** ***, and said that the brakes did go down to the floor but they did not know if that was caused by the accident or whether the accident was caused by the brakes failing (which was the case)
What I am upset about was that the attendant interviewed by the police said that I (the driver) had said that the brakes were bad I did not say that at all, just observed that the brake light had come on He also did not mention that an attendant was under the car checking the transmission fluid, even though it had just happened His statement made it look like I KNEW the brakes were bad when I drove in for the oil change, which was not the case at all The failure of the brakes surprised me and my husband, and we did make a wrong decision to try to go home However, I did not say the brakes were bad If they were, how did we drive into Lube Stop and stop the car? The brakes did not fail under after the oil change
Now, I checked out this incident with a mechanic, and he said that it was probably not the Lube Stop's fault That is fine, and I can accept that What I cannot accept is that the attendant "forgot" he was under the car, and told police I had said the brakes were bad That is patently untrue I told the truth and said it to the officer as I lay trapped in my husband's car I will never know for certain whether the Lube Stop was in any way responsible I realize that I made a mistake trying to go on, in retrospect But I did not leave my house with bad brakes I had even taken the car for a spin in the week before, and the brakes worked It was the transmission we were planning to take to the dealership soon after the oil change Why did the Lube Stop misquote me? I don't understand that, and will not trust them in the future I want them to know the truth and, if they know something that we don't that would contribute to the evidence, they should say it If not, that's fine Our relationship with them, however, is finished
