Alabama Home Appliance Repair Reviews (2)

I called Alabama Home Appliance Repair on April 8, 2015 to schedule a repairman to come to a high rise office in downtown Mobile, AL to diagnose a free standing ice maker for a business in the RSA Tower. She said they only had one repairman who was qualified to fix an ice maker and he wasn't available until April 15 for between 2pm and 4pm. I was willing to wait a week so I scheduled the appointment. On April 15 by 3:30pm the repairman had not shown up, nor had I heard from him, so I called their office back. I was told that for some reason their appointment book showed that I had called and cancelled my appointment, of which, I absolutely did not cancel nor had I even called them again since the April 8 date. Then the dispatcher proceeded to ask me questions like the repairman had already been out to my office, she asked me what the original diagnosis was. I told her that the repairman had not come yet and I was still waiting for my diagnosis appointment. She said unfortunately since they showed I had cancelled my appointment that they had sent him to Birmingham for a job (how interesting) and he wouldn’t be available to come out for another entire week. I was annoyed by this, but made a new appointment for April 21st in the morning. In the morning of April 21, I got a voicemail from them telling me that the repairman would be here in the afternoon and if I needed to reach her for any reason to call her back at their office. I assumed everything was ok by this message. By 3:30pm again the repairman had not shown up, nor had I heard from him. So, once again I called their office. She said they didn’t send him because they were waiting for me to call and confirm my appointment based on her voicemail in the morning. I had saved the voicemail and re-listened to it, it did not say that I had to call her back to confirm, it said he was coming in the afternoon and to call her if I needed to. I told her this and she said that it was too late to send him that afternoon, so she could send him in the morning. I told her that I was in at 8:30am, she said she would send him then. The next morning, April 22, I was running late, so I called her and told her that I would be 15 minutes late and if she could please let the repairman know, she said that he would be at my office at 9am. About 5 minutes later, I received another voicemail from her that was very odd. The voicemail said that she was sorry but they would not be able to make my appointment this morning nor would they be able to come at all because her boss told her that they do not do any repair services in downtown Mobile due to their being a lack of parking and where they did park, their vehicle was left unprotected. This is the most ridiculous thing I had ever heard, their website said they handle calls in Mobile and Baldwin County, across the Bay, but they won’t come downtown…I called her back and was furious. I told her if they had told me this when I originally called them 3 weeks ago to schedule, that I would have called someone else out to fix my ice maker and it would have been repaired already, but instead through a series of mistakes on their part, I was put off for 3 weeks and now I have to call someone else out to repair my icemaker for our company…Someone RELIABLE…DO NOT EVER CALL THIS COMPANY OR DO BUSINESS WITH THEM..If this is the way they handle their business, I can only imagine the quality of their repair service….

I found their ad in the yellow pages and it said if I called before 10 AM that they would come that day. I called them at 8 AM and they said they were booked for that day, so I scheduled an aptt for the next day.( 8/19/15) between 9 and noon. and they would call prior to coming and that they charged $69.95 for service calls and it would be deducted from my repair charges. I accepted and told the secretary that I have a Kitchen Aide side by side frig which was 12 yrs old an the ice maker quit working. I offered to give her the model no., but she declined . The repairman called at 9:30 and arrived at 10 AM the next day. He came in looked at it and said that they had had a lot of problems with the ice maker on these makes and would have to call and discuss with his Dad at the office. He did and relayed to me that the entire unit and water valve would have to be replaced at a cost of ~ $380. I declined and told him not to fix it. He gave me a bill for the service call which I declined to pay since he did nothing and what he told me could and should have been done over the phone without the service call. His Dad called me back and said I would have to pay and that he called the police who would show up at my door with a warrant. I reluctantly paid and struck out the verbage that the work was perfomed satisfactorly...a bad experience and a big rip off!!.
