The first week of March we had the opportunity to see *** for an eye exam, which went very well. There was a misunderstanding with the Vision Plan, and it turned out that our clinic did not accept that particular insurance. In order to help minimize out-of-pocket expenses to the
patient, we used the Medical Insurance instead, which paid a significant portion of the bill. Because of the standard co-pay and another non-covered procedure, there was still an outstanding balance on the invoice. In discussions with ***'s family, it was understood that this amount was unexpected and very difficult to pay. Considering that they had expected to use the Vision Plan in the first place (which would have had a lower co-pay), their frustration over these charges was understandable.
Misunderstandings with insurances is the most difficult part of the eye care business, and we sincerely try to minimize any affect on the patient. In this particular case, we had no problem writing off this remaining amount on ***'s bill. We hope and trust that this is an acceptable resolution to the problem, and would welcome them back anytime if we can assist in their future eye care
