To Whom It May Concern, this letter is in response to the complaint that you had recently received from a former customer/s that I had begun to perform repairs & upgrades to their home. I will briefly try to give you a history of the events that took place over the course of the time I first was...

contacted & began performing some of the tasks requested. In November of 2014 I was contacted by Mrs. ** (a long time personal acquaintance) to provide an estimate to complete the upgrade to the stairs from her main/down stairs to the second/upper level of her home which had been started by herself previously & which she had purchased the replacement stair treads, main handrail, newel post's & spindles for. I had assessed & estimated the work for [redacted] & began the work that had been agreed to be performed. While performing this work there were a couple preexisting conditions that hinder the work being completed to "finish" that I made the homeowners aware of that would need to be completed/addressed to be able to "finish" this work: 1st the flooring at the top of the stairway/hall was unfinished (sub floor only) which left the rise of the step/stair run shorter that the rest of the step/stairs due to the unfinished floor surface. 2nd was that the height of the existing handrail was installed to low I expressed that the upper flooring would need to be installed/completed & the existing grab rail would need to be raised for these issues to meet local code requirements. At the time the home owner indicated that they were happy with work completed on their stairs thus far & paid me for that work & requested me to review & estimate some other additional work that they were wanting to have completed & that we would also be reviewing the needed work mentioned that would be needed to the stairs & handrail. As I have stated the work that I was being requested to estimate at this time was work that had been started to be done by the homeowners & previous contractors but not completed. This work included the remaining removal of a stone fireplace to include the finishing of the interior & exterior ofthe wall which the fireplace was located. The fireplace had been started to be removed previously by another contractor & the homeowner but the removal/work had not been completed. This work was performed, but due to the previously uncompleted state of the work on the exterior of the home, water damage had occurred to the wall sheeting on the interior near the fireplace & also caused damage to an electrical outlet, which due to the water damaged/deteriorated condition failed/"exploded" & was removed & terminated with wire nuts to prevent further damage until an electrician could address/replace it. Additionally, sections of the wall separating the living, dining kitchen area had also been started to be removed by the homeowners & previous contractors, but also not completed & the walls were removed & replaced with an engineered laminated beam. The last item of additional work estimated for the homeowners was for the preparation/replacement of the existing unfinished/deteriorated down/main level floors for vinyl/laminated flooring. As the wall/beam work was being completed the homeowners determined that they would also like to have the damaged areas of the sheetrock/textured walls & ceiling areas repaired, textured & re-painted as well as the replacement & completion of the window, door & base board trims. (more uncompleted work performed by the homeowners & previous contractors) As the scope of work was somewhat growing above some of my capabilities & abilities It was determined that I would be able to assist in consulting & bringing in the additional/needed tradesmen to assist in performing some of the additional work they were requesting to be performed We verbally agreed to this, & proceeded with the work that had been requested as it would be beneficial to have this work performed prior to the flooring installed, & once completed they would proceed to purchase there selected flooring & trims. During this process I was able to proceed with some of the work that I had estimated to perform while assisting the needed tradesman with preparation of their work/tasks/wall finish/etc. but I was also able to go to perform work tor a couple of other customers while waiting for that work to be completed & the additional materials to be purchased & arrive. Some of the assistance given was to remove the electrical switch/outlet/light covers as well as several of the light fixtures which the homeowners were planning to replace, to avoid paint/texture from damaging there finishes. As progress continued the homeowners continued to request additional information & estimates for additional work to be performed (kitchen/dining/pantry cabinets, bathroom fixtures & upgrades, window coverings, solid surface counters, ceramic tile, optional trim & down level doors, replacement heat registers, etc) which I was also able to assist/consult them with & getting the needed cost /estimates needed. At one point during this stage of the project while assisting one of the tradesman we noticed & brought to the homeowners attention that the wood cook stove which the homeowner had installed had been located/installed closer to the wall than what is allowed by fire code & would probably need to be adjusted/moved in the near future to avoid any problem Several of the decisions/selections/purchases needed by the home owners were not being completed & began to delay the progress of their project as well as the work schedule. This was the beginning (of what I saw) as the homeowners irritability began to be noticeable with all of our progress's & the projects progress. I had tried to explain to them before & during the course of the project that "this type of work being performed in your home can become extremely stressful, especially when you are trying to live in your home while the work is being done" & although it was acknowledged by them I don't think both of them (especially Mr. *) completely understood. As the sheetrock work was completing I was able to proceed with the flooring install (which had changed from vinyl to a wood laminate product with ceramic tile at the 2 doorway/entry & down baths) while we waited for the homeowners to make a final decision for the type/style of trims, & doors to be made & purchased for the completion of the work requested to be able to be performed. As things seemed to be coming together for the project & [redacted] seemed happy the way things were coming together, [redacted] however did not, & began questioning & becoming critical of some of the work & workers creating tension with several of the tradesman. On 2/28/15 I met with [redacted] to review the schedule for the remaining work left to be done by myself & the other tradesman & to estimate the time & cost to complete that work "pending no additional work was added" (I had dealt primarily with [redacted] on all of these meetings since first performing the stair repairs in 11/14) at that point I estimated about 10-11 days were left till the work would be completed if they were able to finalize selection & purchase the door & trim materials needed by the following week so that they could be finished & installed, unfortunately they weren't able to decide on the material style until the following Wednesday which was going to make it so the materials would not be available till after the time frame we had estimated on 2/28/15 when we had estimated the time/completion. As they both seamed to understand that the due to the delay of the availability of the trims/doors that the time frame estimated would now be delayed. On the following Friday 3/6/15 while I was reviewing expenses for the project with [redacted] , [redacted] interjected questioning & criticizing as well as making several threatening accusations directed towards me for most all of our work & performance on the project for the previous week. As I tried to walk away & remove myself from the situation he followed me & continued his threats & accusations as [redacted] was pleading with him to stop, until I turned to him I told him if that was how he felt that I was done, & proceeded to gather my tools & equipment & proceeded to follow me & the other tradesman assisting me continuing his threats & accusations & repeatedly telling us to make sure we got everything because he didn't want us back in his home. Once I had retrieved all of my equipment I did leave but only to have [redacted] continue to attempt to threat & badger me via texts on my cell phone till nearly 10:00 pm. As I had stated [redacted]'s family & mine had been friends previous to my performing any work for her, & so after I thought that I had let things settle down a bit I did reach cut to her and apologized far the misunderstanding that
had caused such a good situation to have gone so bad & asked her to contact me so that we could try to resolve what had happened & decide what we might be able to do. Unfortunately I did not hear back from her until after the following week when I sent her a note to let her know that the portion of trim that I had ordered for her project (on my account with a WA vender) had been received in town. She & [redacted] responded thanking me for the status of the materials, but that they had decided to move forward with their project without me & would not be needing me to do any further work for them on their project. I responded to her & again apologized for the misunderstanding that had caused the situation, but that I would be providing them with the pertinent information related to the last weeks of the project as well as a final invoice for the unpaid balance that was due for my labor on their project. Although I had tried to keep the homeowners as up to date with their projects expenses that I was aware/involved with, there were apparently costs associated with the project that I was not made aware of & with the situation becoming what it had/has the homeowners have now disputed what they feel is left due to me & have (I feel) tried to justify this by their confusion with the information that I had provided to them. Although I felt that I had done the best that I could have to do the work that they had requested me to estimate, perform & assist with for them with on their project, Until the misunderstanding that took place they had let publicly (myself & the local venders, suppliers & tradesman other friends) know how pleased they were with all of the work that had been done on their project. Which contradicts the statements that had been made in their complaint. After my last real resolve/attempt/letter to help them better understand what their expenses were for my portion of the work/labor, which I outlined the events leading to the "misunderstanding (attached blacked out letter) I received back from them a letter & document of "mutual agreement of termination of business relationship" that they have requested me to sign & return to them. which by both party's signing would not only formally terminate & dissolve our business relations but also alleviate either party of any liabilities. I have signed & returned this document to them & have provided them with an envelope with pre paid postage, requesting a copy with their signatures be sent/returned to me after they too have signed it(see attached copy with my signature). This situations has bothered me both from a business & personal point that will probably continue to bother me for quite awhile. I have been involved in the construction trades most of my life & have always taken a lot of pride not just in the work that I have done, but also that the individuals who Ihave worked for are thoroughly pleased with that was performed for them, & this is the first time since operating my own business that I have ever had this type of response with any customer (over 10 years throughout Alaska). & hope that you will be able to see that I have done the best to try & resolve this misunderstanding
