I am sorry that that the complainant rejects our response, but unfortunately, there is nothing further that can be done. This is simply not Alaska Marine Lines' fault. She backed into equipment parked at a third party's location. As explained in our original response, AML has no control over what happens to equipment once left at a customer location
There was an error in my original response, however. She did in fact file a claim with our company. I have attached the paperwork she filed and the denial letter sent to her. Typically our claims are related to damage occurring during the freight transportation process, and when I searched our claims history, since this was a different type of claim, it did not come up. I reached out to our claims department to make sure I wasn't missing something, and they were able to supply me with the attached. My apologies for the inaccurate information. It does not change the facts, however. The equipment was there when she parked near it, she backed into it, and in no way is that AML's fault
Again, we take this very seriously and have investigated the facts. We are sorry for her loss, but simply cannot pay for matters that are not a result of our wrong-doing.
Sincerely,
Natalie S***

Good Morning,
Thank you for reaching out to Alaska Marine Lines regarding the shipment on our pro number ***I am familiar with this shipment and can explain what happened
When the customer came in to our Anchorage office to ship the vehicle there was some confusion as to who was
actually going to pay for the shipping costs in addition to confusion on the part of our new employee who was under the impression the vehicle had to be paid for prior to accepting and shipping to Seattle which led to him ask *** to pre-pay in the amount of $2,
Once it became clear that her fiancé’s employer was going to pay for the shipment, we had to obtain confirmation from that company agreeing to accept the chargesThis all takes time and it is was most unfortunate *** *** had to wait it out while we got these details ironed out
I’ve attached proof of the credit that was issued to her account on September 22, in the full amount of $2,
I hope this resolves this situation satisfactorilyPlease contact me directly should you have any further questions

Complaint: ***I am rejecting this response because:I filed a complaint and claim with both alaska marine lines and AkHousing, they both point fingers at the otherI have pics of the surrounding area of this situation, and the tongue on the trailerwas way too long for parking it as it was parkedno safety gear around it at all.Sincerely,*** ***P.S
Hi ***,
Thank you for your mailing address. Looking at your email, I’m not really clear on what you are requesting. Would you please clearly define what you are asking from AHFC and explain why you believe AHFC is negligent?
We need this information for our review.
Thank you,

June 17, 2016Revdex.com[redacted]RE: Complaint ID [redacted] against Alaska Marine LinesDear Ms. [redacted],Alaska Marine Lines is in receipt of your letter stating that the above person has filed a complaintagainst us. Below is our response.Alaska Marine Lines transports...

freight via barge to and from Alaska. We were requested to deliverfreight, in our equipment, to our customer’s location (Alaska Housing). We left the equipment wheredirected by our customer on their property, as is standard procedure. Once left there, it is under theresponsibility of the property owner; AML is no longer in control of the equipment. If they felt it was ina hazardous location, they could utilize safety equipment to make it more obvious – cones, signs, etc.,but that is up to their discretion.Ms. [redacted] has contacted several different individuals from our company regarding this matter. Eachhas told her the same thing:? She is welcome to file a claim – she has not – but we would likely deny it.? She should file a claim with her insurance company and if they think necessary, they can try tosubrogate against us and/or our customer.? The equipment was not under AML’s control.? It was there when she parked near it, and still there when she left. She is not happy with the consistent response from us that her backing into the equipment is not ourfault, and as a result, has filed this complaint.AML takes allegations such as this very seriously. We are a committed, community-oriented serviceprovider to many Alaska towns. While we empathize with Ms. [redacted]’s situation, we simply were not atfault.Sincerely,Natalie S[redacted]Vice President & ControllerAlaska Marine Lines
