I had siding installed on my home by Alenco [and have a lifetime warranty.
When they installed the siding they cut a hole around the roof line and did not use flashing so for 18 years water has been seeping into the wall. About *** we got me carpeting and in the bedroom under the window there was water damage to the sub-flooding but thought it was from having the window open. Then when I was taking care of my mother who was dying I came home to find the switch plate in the kitchen had melted. I contacted an electrician and he found water in the wall and thought it was the gutter. I had a gutter guy come out and there was nothing wrong with my gutters. So I called a roofing company and contractor who both said it was the siding and water was being directed into the hole. I reports to my homeowners insurance which was denied due to shotty installation. Alenco is now denying the claim stating I should have known before now that there was damage and I should have caulked it. It is on the roof and we were never told to caulk it and caulking wouldn't only be a temporary solution. Alenco have come out twice but neither time did they look at the issue but only the damage they will not look at the error unless I sign a waiver that they aren't responsible for any damage.

*** called in to our office claiming we caused a leak from a product installed in 2002. She is claiming this is the first time she has noticed. We explained that too much time has passed for us to be responsible for a leak. We did not install roof or gutters. However, we proceeded to come out and visit with *** to see if we can help. We visited her home on 4/24 to take photos and notes. It was dry that day and while there were visible signs of water damage there was no way to know where the leak was coming from. *** visited her home on May 28th to find very apparent leaking. Again, we are arguing that we installed our siding product in 2002 and how it is just now leaking is beyond belief. However, we offered to help stop the leaking under the premise that we did not cause it and are not liable. Mrs. declined.
Our stance will remain the same in that we can help fix the leak. Our understanding is that “several” contractors have told her that its an easy fix but she has yet to have anyone fix it. We are offering to fix the leak at no charge. But for us to take responsibility beyond is unacceptable.

This is the first response I have received. First off I have a life warranty and this is an installation issue. I noticed the damage when I got home from taking care of my mother who was dying of cancer and noticed the electrical plate was warped. I took a picture and sent it to an electrician and he rushed out to fix it before my house started fire. He thought it might be the gutter, roofing or siding. I had a gutter service and roofer both out and they said the leak was caused by Alenco installation and suggested I put a claim in on my homeowners insurance and it is not covered since it was the installation. The contractors and insurance company states that this happened over a very long time. Water would get in between the wall then dry and I would have not known about it. Alenco came told me they would come out and fix the hole but only if I sign a release that they are not responsible for any damages
