The student in question registered for the Full-Time Accelerated STNA Day Course which was scheduled for July through August 3, with two clinical days scheduled on August 4th and 5th This student failed to complete the course within the timeframe of the class for which student was registered On 08/02/2016, less than two days prior to the scheduled clinical, the student called to inform the office that the student would be unable to attend the 8/4, 8/clinical Despite the late cancellation, the student was not charged a Clinical Reschedule Fee per standard school policy All students are required to attend an orientation prior to the start of their course in which they are informed of the importance of mandatory attendance for this course Students are well aware that they have calendar days from the date the student drops to complete the course including the clinical experience All students, including this student, are informed that if they miss their scheduled clinical days, students will be scheduled for alternate clinical dates contingent on available clinical openings Our office cannot control the ability of students to pay attention during orientationOur office made several attempts to contact the student for more than one month to offer maclinical dates The student’s phone number was disconnected The student did not contact us nor did the student provide our office with an alternate contact number Finally, on 09/26/the student contacted our office and provided us with an alternate phone number Subsequent attempts made by our office to reach the student include but are not limited to several documented calls to the student: On 9/20/our office offered the student a clinical for 10/and 10/02: A voice mail message was left; the student did not return the call Again on 09/23/our office contacted the student regarding clinical make-up: Yet another voice mail message was left; the student did not answer or return the call On 09/30/another call was documented by our Class Coordinator indicating that the student had called and confirmed the clinical site; furthermore, the student was informed during that call that an e-mail was sent to the student on 9/30/giving specific instructions reconfirming the time and place of the 10/01, 10/clinical The student did not express to the Class Coordinator during that call that the student did not have internet access to check e-mail as the student later claimed Student claims that student did not open email until 10/01, the morning of the clinical at 6:00am thereby causing the student to be late for and miss the final clinical opportunity in order to meet the 60-day deadlineSubsequently, the student contacted our office multiple times after being informed that it was now outside the mandated 60-day window and would be required to retake the course One such call was logged by the Class Coordinator on 10/which stated that “Student called in and refused to speak with me Student asked to speak to anyone else I told student that I was the appropriate person to deal with this situation and should speak with me Student would only repeat that student did not want to speak with me I offered to have student come in for a meeting and student refused and student disconnected the call.” The student refused to accept our advice on this matter and repeatedly hung up on our Class Coordinator as well as being rude and vulgar to both our Director and the Class Coordinator by using the “F-word” on multiple occasions while on the phone with both As indicated in the call, several attempts were made to resolve this issue directly with the student by requesting that the student come in to discuss the matter calmly with our director Again, the student refused and promptly hung up on the call Furthermore, our office offered the student a 50% discount to retake the course which was also declined by the student At this point in time, the student neither is eligible for a refund since it is well beyond the documented school refund policy for this course nor is the student eligible to complete the clinical portion of the course as the 60-day in-process time period has expiredIn conclusion, according to the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) regulation, this student is not permitted to rejoin the class or complete the clinical portion of the course since it is now outside of the 60-day In-Process Period The class that this student originally signed up for was offered in the time in which it was scheduled; the student missed the original clinical; our office attempted to contact the student to offer alternate clinical dates; the student did not reply; the student’s phone number was disconnected; the student did not check e-mail; our office offered student a substantial 50% discount to repeat the course in an effort to rectify the situation All options were categorically rejected by the student There is no more our office can offer to this student at this time as the student is beyond the refund deadlines of this course Ultimately, it was the student’s inability to complete the course that landed the student in this situation

While our office acknowledges the concerns of the student, the student claims that the student was never informed that the student had days to complete the clinical Attached please find a scanned copy of the original written Makeup Policy that was signed and dated by the student on July 25, in which, highlighted in yellow, is the statement: “Per the Ohio Department of Health, all missed class/clinical hours must be completed within days from the original missed class/clinical date.” In addition to reviewing this policy verbally with all students during orientation, every student is required to read and sign-off on this policy To decrease errors and to ensure that proper protocol is followed, our office adheres to a strong documentation policy As a result, and misleading statements are effectively dispelled In an effort to resolve this student’s concerns, we are unable to either permit the student to complete this course or refund any tuition; however, we have offered this student a 50% reduction in tuition should the student choose to retake the course

We are very sorry that Ms. [redacted] was not pleased with her experience at Alia.  We have an internal dispute/grievance process in place that we use to address and correct student concerns. ...

Some of the steps that we’ve taken were:  change the schedule of our instructors so that we were able to assign two of our most seasoned and experienced instructors to this student’s class, provide repeated one-on-one face time with this student, and to categorically address the concerns of the student with her former instructor.  We feel that our efforts to resolve this issue have been fair, however whatever have done and attempted to do for this student has not been sufficient.  At this point, we have concluded that there is nothing else that we can do to help this student.  We feel as though the disruption that this student has caused to other students and instructors in the program and the disproportionate amount of time taken up in attempting to resolve this matter, that the student would be better served by attending a different program. We have, therefore agreed to grant the request of this student by giving her a total refund.  Our policy is to only give a prorated refund based on the attendance of the student but we have decided to deviate from this policy to accommodate her as much as possible.  The student is to receive a full refund and is subsequently dismissed from the program.

I am rejecting this response because: I informed the school before the 1st day of classes that I was not able to take my clinical on the 1st scheduled date I was told yes. I called the school every week to ask about when was the next class. I kept getting the answer that there is no room we will call you. I am not the type of person to wait for them to call me I called every week. and got the same answer. I gave brandy my new number she never called no emails nothing. finally one week she said yes there is an opening. I was never informed that I had 60 days to take my clinicals.  I should also not be punished for the company giving me false information. I

was registered.  On 08/02/2016, less than two days prior to the scheduled clinical, the student called to inform the office that the student would be unable to attend the 8/4, 8/5 clinical.  Despite the late cancellation, the student was not charged a Clinical Reschedule Fee per standard school policy.  All students are required to attend an orientation prior to the start of their course in which they are informed of the importance of mandatory attendance for this course.  Students are well aware that they have 60 calendar days from the date the student drops to complete the course including the clinical experience.  All students, including this student, are informed that if they miss their scheduled clinical days, students will be scheduled for alternate clinical dates contingent on available clinical openings.  Our office cannot control the ability of students to pay attention during orientation. Our office made several attempts to contact the student for more than one month to offer make-up clinical dates.  The student’s phone number was disconnected.  The student did not contact us nor did the student provide our office with an alternate contact number.  Finally, on 09/26/2016 the student contacted our office and provided us with an alternate phone number.  Subsequent attempts made by our office to reach the student include but are not limited to several documented calls to the student:  On 9/20/2016 our office offered the student a clinical for 10/01 and 10/02: A voice mail message was left; the student did not return the call.  Again on 09/23/2016 our office contacted the student regarding clinical make-up:  Yet another voice mail message was left; the student did not answer or return the call.  On 09/30/2016 another call was documented by our Class Coordinator indicating that the student had called and confirmed the clinical site; furthermore, the student was informed during that call that an e-mail was sent to the student on 9/30/2016 giving specific instructions reconfirming the time and place of the 10/01, 10/02 clinical.  The student did not express to the Class Coordinator during that call that the student did not have internet access to check e-mail as the student later claimed.  Student claims that student did not open email until 10/01, the morning of the clinical at 6:00am thereby causing the student to be late for and miss the final clinical opportunity in order to meet the 60-day deadline. Subsequently, the student contacted our office multiple times after being informed that it was now outside the mandated 60-day window and would be required to retake the course.  One such call was logged by the Class Coordinator on 10/06 which stated that “Student called in and refused to speak with me.  Student asked to speak to anyone else.  I told student that I was the appropriate person to deal with this situation and should speak with me.  Student would only repeat that student did not want to speak with me.  I offered to have student come in for a meeting and student refused and student disconnected the call.”  The student refused to accept our advice on this matter and repeatedly hung up on our Class Coordinator as well as being rude and vulgar to both our Director and the Class Coordinator by using the “F-word” on multiple occasions while on the phone with both.  As indicated in the call, several attempts were made to resolve this issue directly with the student by requesting that the student come in to discuss the matter calmly with our director.  Again, the student refused and promptly hung up on the call.  Furthermore, our office offered the student a 50% discount to retake the course which was also declined by the student.  At this point in time, the student neither is eligible for a refund since it is well beyond the documented school refund policy for this course nor is the student eligible to complete the clinical portion of the course as the 60-day in-process time period has expired.
