The customer in this complaint was a student in the March STNA Evening Course at the Cincinnati, Ohio location. During the final week of the course, the course instructor was made aware by several students that a number of students were involved in cheating. Students are allowed two
(2) ten-minute breaks in the evening class. When the instructor released students to take breaks and left the classroom, several students were reported to have gone to the front of the classroom and looked through the instructor’s curriculum book, whereby they found upcoming quizzes and tests and the corresponding answer keys and took photos of the pages to distribute to their friends in the classThe instructor was made aware of the incidents and informed the Cincinnati Director. The Cincinnati Director then conducted individual interviews of all students in the class that same evening which was the second to the last day of class. The following evening, the final day of class, a team from Columbus came to town and subsequently interviewed the students and collected evidence such as photos and text messages from some of the students’ cell phones. As a result of the investigation, a number of students were identified as having participated in the cheating incidents The customer filing this complaint is the student identified by a number of students as the “look-out.” She watched to make sure the instructor was not approaching the classroom when the students were taking the photos and distributing themIn the fruitful and unequivocal history of the Cincinnati school, there has never been an instance of cheating such as this one. Cheating is a direct violation of conduct under the Program Rules, and those who violate the Code of Conduct are subject to immediate class dismissal without refund. The investigation that resulted from this incident cost the school a considerable amount of time, effort, and resources. The final two days of class were disrupted for all students, the clinical schedule was disrupted. The faculty, staff, and officers spent hours and weeks to investigate and deal with the violations. A new final exam was formulated and the result was that two (2) of the cheating students failed the course and the student filing the complaint performed considerably worse on the final than she had on previous exams and quizzesAfter a careful and deliberate consideration of the facts presented in this case, the conclusion of the investigation revealed that this student along with seven (7) other students was identified as having been involved in the violation of Part I, Section of the Student Code of Conduct of the school as it pertains to “Cheating on Exams or Quizzes.” Our school policy would not entitle this individual to ANY refund; however, on a strictly voluntary basis, we did refund the student the price of the State Examination Fee which totaled dollars. This was something which we were not obligated to do and would have been within our full right to have withheld. This student cost the organization a great deal of time, money, and effort and disrupted the course and was dismissed for a direct violation of the Code of Conduct

Good morning,
*** *** never mentioned that he had an Individualized Education Program (IEP) *** did not provide any documentation to that effect either, and he never mentioned it on the class survey he completed on his last day of class (see attached)
Since beginning classes on April 29, 2013, we have had students take our State-Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) class (of which are currently in process) We have had two students mention that they had an IEP before taking the class and we asked them to provide us with documentation One such student told us they did not need any special accommodation and completed the course successfully For the other student, we provided the accommodation of taking the student into a separate room and reading the quiz and test questions to that individual and providing them with as much time as necessary to finish taking the quizzes and tests Had *** notified us and provided the documentation to support that assertion, we would have provided him with the same accommodations*** has only brought up the IEP in the complaint he filed with the Revdex.com Also, I don't recall *** telling me that he needed special assistance or that he "needed things bro*** down for I can get it."
*** originally signed up for our class starting on June 2, 2014, but then postponed his start date and began class on June 23, Our STNA class is a hour course consisting of hours of classroom and lab at our training facility and hours of clinical experience at one of our clinical partner sites Our day class program typically runs from am to pm, Monday through Friday of week one, and Monday through Wednesday of week two Our clinical days are then typically am to 3:pm, on Thursday and Friday of week two When a holiday falls within the two week period, we adjust the classroom and lab hours to 7:am to 4:pm, to ensure that we cover the same number of required hours, and allow the students to have the holiday off This also provides students with an additional day to complete homework and study for quizzes and exams We have held five classes since April 29, 2014, consisting of students, for which we have shifted the hours to meet the requirements of the Ohio Department of Health and have had no other students with altered schedules fail the course Of the students who have completed the course to date, we have only had three students fail the course The other students who have failed did not file complaints and did not request refunds They understood that it was their personal responsibility to pass the course and that they simply failed to do so
We make students aware that they must pass the classroom and lab portion of the class with an average of at least 80% on quizzes, exams, homework, and lab skills At the beginning of class, during orientation, I inform students that this is not a "pay to pass" class The students must earn the right to go to clinicals and the criteria are explained I also explain to the students that we do not guarantee that they will get a job after completing the course and taking the STNA exam I point out that there is a high demand for STNAs, and we will assist our students with job placement if they need assistance But I also explain that personal responsibility and the impression they leave upon their instructor will play a role in the degree to which we can assist them in finding employment We have had fewer than ten graduates of our program ask for job placement assistance
Upon completing our STNA course, students are eligible to take the STNA exam The STNA exam consists of two parts, a written exam and a skills exam In terms of the performance of our graduates on the STNA exam, our pass rates are superior to many schools throughout the state Of our graduates who have taken the STNA exam to date, (92.62%) have passed the written exam and have passed the skills exam (93.73%) Average statewide pass rates are 70% for the written exam and 80% for the skills exam
In reference to *** claims that we did not return his phone calls, this is untrue He called our office only after hours Our class coordinator returned his initial call, the next day, and he did not answer or return her call I also called him, he did not answer and I asked him to call me on my cell phone He did not respond to our return calls to him
I am sorry that *** believes that he paid for a class for which he got nothing in return He did not provide us with an IEP, nor any indication that he needed special assistance or accommodations I dispute his claim that I or we don't care and only care about the money Our classes are affordable compared to other programs in the area We have our students complete surveys at the end of every class and are willing to open those to review Overall, our students think very highly of our instructors, the program and their experience here at Alia Healthcare of Cincinnati *** course evaluation gives us mixed reviews, the negative portions of which reflect his displeasure with failing the course.
We provided *** with the same program and opportunity that we provide to all of our students There comes a time when personal responsibility has be accepted and adhered to as a standard for success
Please let me know what the next step is in this process If you would like any additional documentation, I would be happy to supply it Thank you for your time and consideration
