We had our driveway paved by Alicia Paving during the middle week of May 2015.
Beginning of August, I planted new grass seed in the area above the driveway and watered this patch every evening until the seed germinated.
August 4 was a sunny day, and after watering, I noticed that the driveway was wet from the middle and downhill.
I initially thought this was runoff from watering, but the uphill side was dry.
Apparently, the water was flowing under the new driveway and then surfacing in the middle to continue its trek downhill.
I tried to contact Alicia Paving 4 times on various days and times; leaving messages for them to call me back each time. Three weeks after the first phone call, they finally contacted me on 8/26. His response is that that water will go to path of least resistance and if that happens to be from partway under the driveway, and then up through it, so be it. He also tells me that he really doesn't know what I can expect him to do about it.
A quick research on the Internet came up with "When asphalt is installed, it is compacted to a target of 92-98% density to remove as many air voids as possible to prevent water infiltration. Water seeping through the asphalt weakens it. As the water continues to infiltrate, it will weaked the subgrade, ultimately resulting in possible potholes and alligator cracks." There is no indication of the direction of this water flow, but it seems that it wouldn't matter if it were upward, or downward.
So, it sounds to me like Alicia Paving performed a nice looking, but sub-standard job that I should expect to have to repair sometime in the near future.
