Subject: Re: You have a new message from the Revdex.com of Metro Washington DC & Eastern Pennsylvania in regards to your complaint #[redacted].To: [email protected] work was completed, FIVE months and many complains after it was contracted. Very poor communications and no courtesy at all. Thanks for checking in.[redacted]

Sep 7, 2015Hello [redacted],Thank you for returning my call last week on Wednesday, September 2 and providing me with additional guidance regarding my dispute with Alick Smith Roofing. As per our discussion, I have attached additional information that documents the problem that has gone unresolved for almost 5 years at this point. Below I have also included links to two video clips from June 2015 that shows the extent to which my roof leaks where my skylights are installed. The attachments to this email and video clips were sent to Alick Smith Roofing on June 8th and again on June 23rd along with the emails below as a follow-up to multiple phone calls.Unfortunately, following my phone conversation with you last Wednesday, over the holiday weekend I have received what appears to be an automated response from the Revdex.com that states my complaint has been closed because I did not respond with in the 10 day time frame. This is quite disappointing since the company was provided with over 30 days to respond to my initial complaint. As I explained on the phone, the delay in my response time was due to questions that I felt I needed answered by the Revdex.com and also an appointment scheduled by the business to look at the issue again on Saturday, August 28th that was not kept by Alick Smith Roofing (ie. they were a "no show" for the appointment). I am also currently waiting on the roofing company as type this for a 4 pm appointment today. They have not arrived at the time I am sending this email, so this is Our second appointment in 10 days that the company has failed to keep and failed to notify us that they would not be coming.Contrary to the statements in the businsess' response, this is a common application of skylights that is outlined very clearly in the [redacted] installation guide. The incorrect installation was verified by the [redacted] consultant who inspected the problem in 2011 in order to verify that the issue was with installation and not with the product itself (attached in writing). In fact, our skylights and corresponding flashing are intended for the exact configuration and installation that we have on our roof, they simply were not installed by Alick Smith Roofing as per the instructions provided. At no time did company alert us that they were not "comfortable" with providing installation, as stated in their response. The issue is that they simply did not follow the specifications and also did not use the supplied ice and water shield to ensure a water tight barrier. You will see that their employee "Chuck" acknowledged that fact back in 2012 and stated, in writing, that if the roof were to leak again the company would repair it to the [redacted] standards. However, they have refused to remedy the poor workmanship to put an end to the leaking. Please take a moment to look at the documentation I have from this issue dating back to 2012. At the current time, We still have a leak in the roof that is as severe as the video clips show from June whenever we receive a heavy rain. My complaint is certainly not resolved, nor do I feel it should be closed. Please let me know if there is an opportunity to keep this case open in hopes of the company repairing the problem or covering the cost of the repair if they are not qualified to do so themselves.Thank you,

To Whom it May Concern, At [redacted]'s request we have sent two different people to fix the damage from her dryer vent not being removed originally On 6/18/2015: We sent out a repair technician to spackle and repair the leak resulting in the dryer vent not being removed. On...

6/21/2015: We spoke to [redacted] and she said the work was not complete so we again sent some one on 7/10 to complete the work. On 7/15/15 as [redacted] was getting on a plane for vacation she said all work was completed and she would call us back if there was an issue. We did not hear from her again until 9/9/15 saying the work was not completed to her satisfaction. We offered to send her a refund for the dryer vent not being removed but she refused. As we told her on the phone we would be happy to send her a check and we are sorry she is not satisfied with the work completed.

 Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because: I have not...

heard from Alick Smith since my last contact (a phone call) with one of their employees the week of February 9.  No date was set for the work then nor have they tried to arrange to come do the work now even though the snow has melted and each day this week the temperature has been in the 40s or 50s or even 60s.  The original arrangement was for the work to be done in late October to early November; four months have passed since then. I have been without any gutters for almost 3 months now.

Review: We had a roof installed by Alick Smith 2 years ago. We had a leak and [redacted] Smith came out to look and said it was from roof and they are going to have to come out and fix the roof and repair our ceiling. It took awhile for someone to come out to fix the problem. They had to have some one come in to remove possible mold that was in ceiling due to the leak. That went well, they cleaned up after themselves and you wouldn't have even have known they were there if I didn't have 1/2 of my kitchen ceiling torn down. We than had to wait another week someone to come out to repair the ceiling/roof. I was told it was a 2 day job. It turned into 3. The guy on the job was very unprofessional. My house was left a mess. They had to repaint a wall and they couldn't match the color, so my kitchen is now 2 different colors. They didn't put plastic on anything & it took me 3 days just to get the dust out of the house. I called & spoke to [redacted] & he said he will drop off the paint so I can repaint my kitchen. I still have not received the paint. I don't feel I should have to paint the kitchen. I am not happy with the job at all, you can see the tape on the ceiling & the painting looks like a child did it. I sent an email to the company and it has been over I week and I still haven't received a response.Desired Settlement: I want my kitchen back to the way it was before they stepped into my house.

Response:

Hi [redacted],

In regards to [redacted]'s complaint,we were notified about this complaint in August. In September we paid [redacted]'s Professional Cleaning & Restoration to do a mold test which came back negative. After that test, I sent 2 gentleman out on 9/24/13 and they hung new drywall, spackled, taped and painted. [redacted] was unhappy with the end result. So I then sent out another 2 gentleman to repaint the entire kitchen to have all the walls match. As well as spackle the ceiling where [redacted] could see the seams. The workers did everything they were asked to do as well as purchase the paint for the ENTIRE kitchen so it could match properly. We attempted to fix this and it costed us $1,461.10 in material alone not including labor cost. I apologized to [redacted] for her unsatisfactory. I also offered for the workman to come out and look at the end result and fix what made her unhappy. She said no, I apologized again and said if she changes her mind to let me know. I don't want an unhappy customer. Here at Alick Smith we tried our best to accommodate [redacted].

If any new information should arise, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because:

I am not happy with the end result and I was never told they will come out to fix the issues again. I had to have someone at my house for 5 days to try to fix this and it still isn't right. What about my time and the fact that I couldn't use my kitchen for 3 days while they tried to make the repairs.

Regards,

Review: Alick Smith Roofing was hired to replace my entire roof due to extensive leaking. An estimator gave me a $4,800. estimate to cover the job. I was given a contract which described supplies and square footage. I went to my credit union and got a loan for this work. Alick Smith Roofing did the job and they were paid. But the leaking continued, despite my new roof! They sent someone out to inspect who discovered a section of my roof was "forgotten" - the estimator did not include it, supplies were not ordered, workers did not repair it ...but it was plain to see that it was a damaged section of roof! Water was damaging my attic, my son's ceiling caved in due to water ...but nothing was done, and all those roofing experts were on my roof! Once the 'forgotten' section was ascertained, Alick Smith wanted to repair it at additional cost (claiming it was not at profit to him.) I expect him to make good on original contract to make the roof new at no additional cost, as his worker make the mistake. He has not made this happen and my house remains open to the elements. I am concerned that Alick Smith Roofing is unprofessional when I have paid promptly. We are still suffering water with his new roof.Desired Settlement: I would like Alick Smith Roofing to admit that one of its estimators made a mistake. [redacted] told me himself that he did not locate the 'forgotten' section of roof due to 'poor conditions' on the day of estimation. Initially I expected Alick Smith roofing to say 'sorry' and just make things right by ordering the proper materials and fixing the problem ASAP. This is what a responsible business owner does. I am highly insulted that Alick Smith did not admit mistake, attempted to charge, and now delay.

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because:

This business, Alick Smith Roofing, was hired to repair my entire roof. They were negligent in failing to estimate the critical section of my roof, failed to inform me that they left a 11x11 section of my roof open to the elements for over a month and continue to leak into the house further damaging internal parts, and they were stubborn about admitting their fault. Of course I threatened them to get them to complete the job, as no other roofer wants to complete another roofer's mistake ...nor do I care to pay for that and go to court. Alick Smith Roofing was paid $5,000 and on time for a job they did not complete well, simply as that. Further more, as a result of their misdeed I am paying thousands to replace the entire ceiling in the room under the leak, had they repaired it promptly...perhaps it would only be a patch in the ceiling. They are fortunate I am not suing for those costs! Alick Smith Roofing did stop the water pouring into my home at no further charge because I had paid them already to do so, even if the estimator neglected to count that section in their plans. (Really, who is sent up to plan to fix a full roof and leaves off a part---then blames the customer? Like I hid my roof from plain view for an hour?) This was the Alick Smith Roofing's mistake, they failed to take responsibility until forced to like a recalcitrant child, and I want consumers to know who they are dealing with in the event of future problems.

Review: I had storm damage, I called Alick Smith Roofing. They came out and looked at it and sent me a quote. I sent the quote back with a check for $471.00 for half the quote. This was 7-14-2014, I emailed them twice and they said they would be out shortly. They are stalling because they have bigger and better paying roofing jobs going on. I told them if they didn't want to do the job they should return my money so I can get someone else. 7 weeks is long enough to have my roof and rain gutters fixed. It would only take them a few hours to fix everything that was damaged. I want my money back.Desired Settlement: Repair the storm damaged this week or return my money.

Review: The sales representative sold us a product ([redacted] Walking pads) for our roofing project that were. not meant to be used for a residential roof that would require high traffic

and need to be shoveled and salted. In the back of our residential/commercial building has 2 floors and the 2nd floor to enter into the apartments you need to walk on a flat roof area.

Alick Smith subbed out the work to an inferior company with out our knowledge and had to return 6 times for mistakes. 1. flashing was on backwards. 2. instead of our 1 roof leaking, we had all 3 leaking after there re-roofing job.. 3. The walking pads were buckling up 4. They didn't changed a bad piece of plywood they stuck a piece of metal and cardboard under the rubber roof. which had to be redone. 5. The rubber roofing did not have a retainer bar to hold the material to the wall. The pads are a major problem , they are not meant for high traffic , shoveling snow of the them is almost impossible and the ice melt is not recommended for the rubber roofing.Desired Settlement: 1. Replace [redacted] walking pads with composite pavers

2. Attached rubber roofing to wall with retainer bar.

or full refund.
