Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2016/10/20) */
Mr*** *** contracted with All Around the House and More, Incto repair a water leak at his garage entry doorMr*** signed the quote on 8/31/which described the work as "Remove and reset the garage entry doorRemove the trim, shim
the door, reset and align the door and seal under the threshold." The quote was for time and materials with a service call, the labor rate for the lead man and a second man if needed and for materialsThe job was scheduled to begin on 9/27/
Our technicians were on the job site on 9/27/*** examined the door, removed the trim, installed shims and aligned the doorHe was able to square up the door and make it plumb without removing the entire doorHe then installed a new seal on the bottom of the door and checked for leaksThere was still some water getting in when the hose was aimed directly at the doorMr*** wanted to see how much a new door would cost so *** gave him some figuresThe left trim piece was left off pending further workMr*** also told *** that he had already had two other contractors out to work on the door*** was unable to return that week to work on the job due to other obligations and weather conditionsMr*** asked to have Charlie Hurt call him when he returned from vacation rather than reschedule the work
When Charlie returned from vacation, he met with *** to discuss the project for Mr***They determined that replacing the door might not solve the problem and that they should try caulking the door firstCharlie called Mr*** and explained that the existing door was a good door and that installing a new door would probably not fix the problemHe was going to caulk the threshold to see if that would solve the problem and replace the trimMr*** requested an appointment for late in the dayCharlie suggested pm on Wednesday, October 12th but Mr*** asked to make it for Thursday, October 13thOn Thursday, October 13th about 5:pm the office called Mr*** to let him know that Charlie was on his way for their pm appointmentMr*** informed the office that he wouldn't be there and that the appointment was supposed to have been at pmWhen asked if he wanted to reschedule, he said noCharlie then called Mr*** to let him know that he had the appointment down for pmThe conflict in appointment times was not deliberate but an *** misunderstandingMr*** did not want us to return
The office prepared and sent an invoice based on the quote given to Mr*** on October 13, He replied with an email the same day requesting that the invoice be revised to reflect the work completedThe office revised the invoice and sent it to him on October 17, Mr***'s payment for the work was received on 10/19/
As to the work performed, All Around the House and More, Inctechnicians completed the work in the contract except for removing and resetting the garage doorThe technician was able to align the door without removing itTherefore, Mr*** did agree to the work that was performed per the contract and paid the invoiceThe problem not completely resolved but Mr*** told our tech that two other contractors had been there and didn't solve the problemThere is clearly something unforeseen causing the leak that needs to be resolved
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 7, 2016/10/24) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
All Around the House and More, Incmade the conscious decision not to perform all work as agreed to in the signed contractUpon initial visit with Charlie Moore the only reason that I agreed to continue business was the fact the door was going to be removed and reinstalledI did have two other contractors provide estimates that the door needed to be removed as was explained to Charlie MooreThe other two contractors pointed out that it was an issue with the door and it's initial installation, which left a space in the brick moldingThe only option was to remove the door and correctly reinstallI already have one of the previous contractors who previously provided an estimate to come and correct the deficiencies
The statement made by All Around the House "There is clearly something unforeseen causing the leak that needs to be resolved" is a testament to the fact that the work performed was insufficientIf the door had been removed this unforeseen element would have been brought to light
Charlie did call me and state that caulking might address the issue at which time I informed him this had already been attemptedHere is an exact quote from a contractor who attempted to stop leak without removing door, and this statement was used as evidence in small claims court against the original installer"Repairs on...west facing door included removal of vinyl siding at top of doorReplacement of existing drip cap with new taller aluminum drip cap, properly flashed with Tyvek and flashing tape along with caulking as added precautionThe threshold was also adjusted to proper height for door sweep to sealUpon completion conducted water infiltration test with garden hose starting at bottom of door, testing seals and threshold first with no water infiltrationContinued test working up sides of doors to near top corners, where it became evident that water was infiltrating between back of brick mold and wallThis area must be back caulked prior to install to create waterproof seal, or door must be equipped with factory nail flange that can be sealed using flashing tape in addition to caulk as secondary sealAlso by caulking only face side of siding J-channel to the brick mold, original install has created a path of least resistance to interior of home versus allowing water to travel downward and away from framed openingDue to this action, wood brick mold deterioration prevents repairs being reliable for distant future."
As you can see the issues are not unforeseen, removal of the door would have exposed the issue which other contractors had determined
I do not accept the response, but it is not worth my time to pursue in small claims court for $I would like to state however the similarities between my complaint and another to the Revdex.com in regards to work being performed outside the written contract "in order to save the customer money" would appear to be a reoccurring theme
The response that I did agree to the work performed is not completely accurate, please see original contract attachedParts of the contract were performed but not all and the fact that I made payment was to avoid any potential negative marks to my credit

Complainant: Stephanie L *** Response Mrs*** contacted All Around the House and More, Incon 7/11/to ask about hanging bedroom/closet doors that were missing brackets and track. The owner, Charlie Hurt, told her it would be a service call of $and labor at $
per hour for the 1st man and $per hour for the 2nd man. He estimated that it would be to hours or hours per door. We emailed her Quote #on 7/17/for Time (actual time on the job) and Material (cost plus 15%). Mrs*** contacted the office requesting the job be scheduled for 7/18/ Charlie and another technician were on the job site on 7/18/from 9:am to pm. They left briefly to pick up hardware for the doors and returned to mount the hardware and hang bedroom doors and a closet doorThere was no indication that either Mror Mrs*** was unsatisfied with the job at that time and they were both aware of the amount of time it took to mount the hardware and hang the doors The office prepared and sent an invoice on 7/19/that included the service call of $75, hours @ $60, hours @ $and materials of $for a total of $490.96. On 7/25/***, the Office Manager, spoke with MrsHolloway on the phone at which time Mrs*** indicated that she thought the bill was too high and didn’t want to pay for more than hours because Charlie said that it would take a couple of hours when he first looked at the job. *** said told Mrs*** that she would give the message to Charlie We received payment from Mrs*** of $on 7/28/17, which was $less than invoiced. MrHurt spoke to Mrs*** on 8/4/and explained to her that he had quoted hours per door not hours total and that she needed to pay the remainder of the balance dueWe received payment of the balance due of $on 8/7/ We are sorry that Mrs*** misunderstood the amount of time that it would take to repair the doors. We completed the work as requested and she did not file any complaints until she received the invoice

I am rejecting this response because All Around the House and More are wrong when they said it would take 4-5 hours. The quote only stipulated two people and the hourly rate. It did not mention hours. Mr. Hurt did not tell my husband the day he came to inspect the job nor the day he came to do the job that it would be 4-5 hours. I did not misunderstand Mr. Hurt when he told me 2 hours. He did not say 4-5 hours. Mr. Hurt is not truthful. My husband watched the workers the whole time and he said it was amateur hour. They borrowed tools from my husband and they tried to hang a door in the wrong place. My husband had to point out that the door belonged to the other room. Then they put up the track but they had to take it down because they left the parts inside that were not used. This went on two or three times. Which obviously used up more time. Then they were having problems with the bottom bracket bending down. So my husband finally told them to use a block of wood under it and it would not bend. Mr. Hurt then cut a piece of wood from a long strip he had with a sawzall with a blade designed to cut metal not wood. Once again, not prepared. Obviously they did not know what they were doing. They also went out for approx. 30 minutes for parts they should have brought with them. The third door took all of 10 minutes which my husband had repaired and they just helped to hang it. The four hours were primarily for the two bedroom doors. I feel that the fair payment was for two hours worked for two people. I paid them $315.96 because I feel that I should not have to pay for their mistakes and incompetence. I also feel that they owe me $175 for the overage time worked. Also, I feel that this incident should affect their Revdex.com grade. It should be downgraded to a C-.

Final Consumer Response /* (2000, 6, 2015/06/09) */
I received a call from the business owner yesterday who indicated he planned to charge only the amount related to the vinyl flooring installation. Assuming this is processed correctly, this issue may be resolved. - [redacted]
