Review: This company was hired to inspect 5 boats. We have sent them the list of works that this company has to provide us with. We were asked for $600.00 to perform this job. We have paid in full in advance due to they insisted to do so and after 3 days of numerous phone calls, emails, we have received report of what has been done. After reweaving this so called report, we realized that the job we asked for is not done. We were charged for the service we did not get. We asked them to finish this job or reimburse money. Unfortunately, we got refused with anything.Desired Settlement: We want to have $480 back for unfinished job.

Response:

Good Morning

My apologies for my delay in responding,

As I had stated in our conversation , I agreed to inspect 5 boats for a total of $600.00 , with $50 of that cost

be attributed to transportation expense.. I normally charge $150 per boat ie with outboard engines and $200 per boat for I/o's

4 of the boats were mercruisers and 1 had an 115 Yamaha outboard

The day we agree to inspect the boats its raining , not really an issues because the boats were sitting in a warehouse awaiting shipping to other points beyond. Unfortunately when I arrive there is no representative from customers company to go threw the inspections with me, just the same I am prepared to inspect the boats as discussed . Out of the 5 boats 2 had dead batteries and 1 was missing keys all together .. As an inspector it is my job to give information as to the sea worthiness of the boats as well as the operational condition .Upon initial visual inspection it is apparent that the boats have been in storage for some time and were collected from different parts of the country for sale to overseas points. During my comprehensive inspection none of the boats would start , a fact that I contributed to old gas in the system as well as fouled up spark plugs . Therefore I was only able to determine the compression on the 2 boats that would crank I/o's , which I reported .

As for the other boats during inspection I determined all boats were extremely low in engine oil, and were missing different components outlined in the guidelines requested by the customer ie lights, radios , windshields and lower unit oil all which are necessary for the boat to be deemed sell-able. I reported these facts to the customer in writing via e-mail . I made recommendations as to what was need for the boats to become seaworthy and sell-able. All the boats need service , tune ups , oil changes , lower unit service as well as a new ignition key installed

I believe the problem arose due to the fact that the shipper made guarantees to the buyer prior to inspection , and when I asked if I could speak directly to buyer I was told that he didn't speak English . So while the boats could be considered seaworthy all were 2005 or newer , I wouldn't recommend them for sale in there present condition . I gave a list of services necessary before they could pass my inspection and receive an approval to buy

Thank you

Response:

Good day Sir or Madam,

As stated in my initial response my customary charge for inspections is $200 per engine for Mercruisers and $150

per engine for outboards . In the report that I sent via e-mail during the [redacted] of July week holiday needless to say my clients

were not partaking in the celebration , Non of the boats started , yet 2 Mercruisers were able to crank which allowed me to determine the compression on those engines at $200 per that is $400 plus my standard rate of $75 per hr , allowing myself a minimum of 2 hrs.' used on the remaining 3 boats brings our total to $550 , and the as previously stated $50 allotment for transportation expense therefore your request for a refund is denied.

In regards to my punctuality , it was downpour raining that day , and I contacted you an hr prior requesting to reschedule , however you were adamant that the inspection had to happen today

As you stated in your response the boats were purchased at "as is auctions ", which would explain why there was no key for one of the boats

but somehow that is my responsibility, along with 2 other boats having dead batteries. I checked all information requested to the best of my ability based upon the condition of what was presented , as I stated in my report I believe all the boats were sitting for a long time, they were low on engine oil , all the boats had low gasoline and gear oil was low . My job as the inspector was to determine the seaworthiness of the boats and what additional services where needed and I if I would recommend them for purchase , which I did .

I hope this resolves this matter.

Thank You

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

[Your Answer Here]

Good day,

This matter is not resolved. Explanation means nothing. We had an agreement for $600 to inspect all boats but only One boat has been inspected accordingly to Inspections Requirement List.

Once again, if boats did not start he should have informed us about it but he never did.

The agreement was to inspect all 5 boats for $600, only two have been inspected not even fully. Now, he is claiming that he checked 2 engines for $200 per piece? This is news. He never spelled out this price and for us this is discovery. We were waiting for inspection for 5 boats for $600 - it means $120 per boat, it is initial agreement.

We need to have our money back for the boats that never was inspected fully.

In order for the Revdex.com to appropriately process your response, you MUST answer the question above.

Sincerely,
