Prior to making our first contact, two separate letters were sent to *** *** *** *** and were not returned by the postal authoritiesA response was not generatedThe collector did contact the companythereafterUpon identifying himself, the individual who answered the phone (who refused to identify herself) stated "we do not want anything" and promptly hung up. Naturally, MrM*** presumed that this was a mistake as United was not selling anything, but collecting a past due business debt owed by *** *** * *** to our client, ScholasticHe did make a second call to this concernThis time around, someone else answered the phone and indicated that a call was just placed there and the individual had indicated "we do not want anything"He expl***ed to this individual that we represent Scholastic regarding an outstanding accountIn response she stated "you will have to deal with the lady in accounts payable"He did request her name, at which time the individual stated "I cannot give you that information". MrM*** inquired with her as to why she would not be in a position to provide him with that information, since we needed to talk to this individual in an effort to determine why the past due bill had not been paid. In response she stated "you will have to email your request"Interestingly enough, an email was sent on two different occasions but it subsequently bouncedClearly the debtor was attempting to avoid any type of contact with either Scholastic or United who was now representing Scholastic. A call was placed to our client who did indicate that the balance was due and owing and while they had already provided the debtor entity with backup documentation, they provided United with another copyAs a matter of fact, the last individual MrM*** spoke with indicated "you will never get a call back" if we did not already have the name of the individual in accounting. I have done this for several years and I have never contacted a company that refused to provide the name of the accounts payable person, who is in charge of paying bills on behalf of the business (in this case *** *** * ***), let alone receive such a responseIt is clear that the debtor entity had no intention of resolving this matter amicably. When the compl***t was filed, the debtor entity attempted to make it look as though this was a retail matter by filing the compl***t in the name of this individual rather than the debtor businessAs it turns out, we have now been informed that *** ** *** who was not spoken with, is in fact an attorney.Undoubtedly the debtor is filing this compl***t in the hopes that it will make this account simply go away. We have notified our client who did request that this account now be placed with a commercial collection attorney in Brooklyn, New York which is being done as we speak.
