All My Sons Moving & Storage Reviews (%countItem)

The company gave a locked in price for moving, with a prorate after a certain amount of time. They then proceeded to nearly triple that and charge 900 dollars instead of 250 in moving fees. The delay in time was primarily due to the slow actions of the movers and the fact that they decided to take a 30 minute break in the middle of the move. They also got a substantial amount of dirt on one of the pieces of furniture and when mentioned they said that it will just come off easily, which was not the case. The manager then tried to essentially hold my furniture hostage

Thank you for the opportunity to address your
concerns. Please accept our sincere apology regarding your service experience.
We spoke with the local office and went over your billing details to confirm if
there were any errors within the charges, we have determined that your bill was
correct. Your billable charges included items such as labor, packing materials,
fuel surcharge and travel time to and from your origin and destination
locations. The Operations Manager at the local branch advised that the above-mentioned
items were explained in an email that was sent on February 21st, 2020. Regarding
the movers taking a lunch break, we verified that you were not charged for that
thirty-minute period. Thank you for being a customer and we appreciate your
feedback.

I hired All My Sons to move me to *** from ***. I also had items in storage. I gave an itemized list over the phone when I booked them, but was told by Alex, the head of the crew, that wasn't what mattered, he needed to know. So, it seemed it was more work than they anticipated and at the apartment, boxes were put willy nilly in any fashion, just so they could finish. I could not even get into the 2nd bedroom to organize anything. Boxes marked garage or xmas were to go up in the attic, which did not happen. I had to hire another company to fix their mess. I have before and after pictures of the room. I have moved across country and never had a mess like this. When I called the company they were unwilling to help me in any way. I would have to pay again to have them come out to gic it. I was very surprised by the lack of concern of such a reputable company. Their customer service is nonexistent.

All My Sons Moving & Storage Response • Nov 19, 2019

Sent email and made offer to reimburse customer for the amount she requested $500

On or about the 1st of November, I contacted All My Son’s Moving (AMS) to inquire about an upcoming move I had scheduled for the 13th of this month. I spoke to a sales representative of AMS and he stated the cost was $159 an hour, 2 hours minimum and they will supply 3 professional and licensed men to perform the move. He estimated the move for my 2-bedroom, 2 bath apartment would take approximately 4 hours, adding the total would be somewhere around $636.00. I asked him to add shrink wrap to protect my furniture, mirrors and TV’s. He said the shrink wrap was $35 a roll and that should take care of the entire project and the TV’s would have additional protection. I gave him my credit card to pay the $250.00 deposit. We scheduled the move.

On the 13th of November, the movers arrived around 9:00am. They carried all the furniture out of the apartment in about 4 hours. I asked the supervisor why they didn’t shrink wrap my furniture and he said, it doesn’t really work so he decided not to use it. I had also requested all my mirrors and TV’s to be boxed, he assured me they would be. They were not wrapped.

About 3 hours into packing up my apartment, the supervisor informed me that the other 2 movers had been fighting and he had to give them a break to cool down. He also told me that I would not be charged for the time they are cooling off. I believe I was charged anyway. I was inside the apartment finishing up and did not oversee what they were doing, and I did not check their work. I hired what I thought was a professional company and agreed to pay the $636.00 fee in order to get a professional moving company and I trusted that their work would be done right.

When we arrived at the storage building, I walked one mover to the unit so he could see its location then I went to my car to keep warm, it was about 25 degrees outside. About an hour into the moving into the unit, the supervisor approached my car to complete the paperwork. He then stated the cost was $ 1,291.31. I do not see where the $250.00 deposit was deducted off the invoice. He asked if I wanted to tip them and stated tips were only accepted if they were cash. I only had $23.00 in cash and gave it to him. He then stated that I could go to an ATM if I wanted to get them more money for the tip. I explained that I had just been laid off and funds were tight. He went back into the building to finish the unpacking.
Soon afterwards, one of the movers came to my car to say that it was pleasure meeting me but that he was done. I asked if the move was completed and he laughed and said, no, that he was done with the company. He then went and sat in the truck, leaving the completion of the move for the other 2 men.

The supervisor came back to my car to say everything was done and they were through earlier and that I would be receiving a $88.25 refund in a week or so. They got in the truck and left. He didn’t wait for me to go look at the move, but again, I trusted AMS and didn’t think to ask them to accompany me with the final inspection.

I got to my unit and was unable to open the door, I was not strong enough, so I went home. The next day my boyfriend and I went back to the unit. I tried to open the door and could not and my boyfriend was able to shimmy it open. The headboard to the king-size bed, of which I paid $5000.00 for was preventing the door from opening and as the door opened, it put a ding on the top. The mattresses were bent, so they would not be usable. I paid $2000.00 for the king and $10000 for the Queen. The king-size mattress pad had been sat in water, it was not covered and will not be usable, I paid $200.00 for it. My boxes were literally thrown up to the top of stacked furniture and were upside down. I have crystal vases, dishes, glasses and decanters and I have crystal bells that I purchased for *** wedding. The antique mirror was on the floor, unwrapped, I paid $495.00 for it. These are just a few items that I was able to look at. I cannot get to everything because it was just thrown in.

Here is a brief synopsis of the moving nightmare:

1st issue – Was told by sales rep that the 3 men were professional and licensed. They were not professional. I was not presented with proof of licenses.

2nd issue – Told the move would take cost approximately 4 hours and cost around $636.00. The final invoice and what I paid was $1291.31. The $250.00 deposit was not deducted, so the actual cost was $1,541.31.

3rd issue- The movers were fighting so much they had to be separated, I was told I was off the clock, but was not. Before they were through, one of the men walked off the job.

4th issue- They asked to be paid in full and tipped before the job was complete. The supervisor suggested I give them more I could go to the cash machine.

5th issue - They left before I could go see the job and when I opened the doors (had to get help opening them because my headboard was preventing it from opening) the headboard was dinged by the door.

6th issue – They threw my stuff in the unit so bad that the damages cannot be determined until I get new movers to reorganize it. I asked the customer care department if they could send men to reorganize the unit and he said no, I will need to hire someone to do that.

7th issue- I called the local office and asked for the corporate office number file a complaint and the man that answered the phone said he didn’t know it!

8th issue – I researched the internet to find the number and called the customer care department. I also asked about someone coming out to reorganize the unit and was told, I needed to hire someone to do, they could not. I asked to speak to a manager and was put through to a Leona M (not sure of the spelling). My call went to voice mail. I left a message asking her to call me asap. She still has not returned my call and that was 24hours ago.

9th issue – Yesterday, I went back to my apartment and discovered the movers left my toolbox on the sidewalk. The maintenance man for the complex told me he thought about calling the police because it looked suspicious. Luckily, no one stole it.

Never in my wildest dreams would I think AMSM would do such a horrible job, or that their customer service department would be so bad. I am a *** and do not have the capabilities to reorganize my unit. I am leaving *** for *** tomorrow and don’t have the time or money to hire men to do it. This has caused me great pain to have to endure this kind of treatment. AMSM is dishonest and I have been conned by them. I will fill social media with a copy of this letter, as well as file a complaint with the Revdex.com. When I arrive in ***, I will file a lawsuit. I fell the damage to my property were deliberate and were due to the constant fighting between the 2 men, the supervisor on the phone and the fact that they were not happy with the tip I gave them.

I will reach out by email and request photos and documentation to help assist in the resolution of this complaint for consumer

We booked moving services from one dwelling to another on august 24, 2019. I has spoken to several people in regards to what I needed moved from the home. in addition to dressers and beds etc, our move also included a *** refrigerator, 2 empty fish tanks and cabinetry with stone counter tops. My last contact was with Sam and we discussed the do's and don'ts of the contract as well as the fact that some pieces may be more difficult and if the men felt uncomfortable they might not be able to do it. I completely understood and informed him that we got them into the house with 2 people so 3 men should be fine with the right equipment. I was told by Sam that we would be a first job that day and our window was between 8 & 10, The evening before we were moved to a second slot with no guaranteed time window due to a sick call out. When the men arrived at the house they had already looked really tired from a previous job and when I was showing them around, the team lead, Alex I think, said they had NO KNOWLEDGE of the bigger pieces I needed moved. I was so shocked because those were the reasons why we called a moving company in the first place. Alex told me he understood my frustration and he would try to get our things moved as quickly as possible so the company gets less of our money and he and his guys can get a better tip. Alex then proceeded to tell me how bad the communication is in the company and they walk into jobs all the time that are surprising to him. He had no loyalty to the company and would walk out on them if need be. We didn't feel like we could continue to ask them to take our pieces with the fear that they would leave. My husband and I helped as much as we could with getting pieces to a central location and the whole move start to finish was about 6 hours. We had allotted our money for a one day move and were so disappointed that we now had to call to have movers come back to complete the job ALL MY SONS could not do. We now have to pay twice for a job that should have only been a one day thing. Once everything was packed up Amanda from the office called to see how everything is going. I voiced my concerns and she said she will look into the disconnect of communication and get back to me. A few days passed and I did not hear from the company so I called and spoke to Amanda again. She had told me Sam was not in the office yet and his side of the story is very different than mine. She did not feel comfortable being in the middle and no longer wanted to help me. I asked if she was the owner and how I could get in touch with someone from corporate. She told me she would have them contact me and she would call me after 11 when Sam comes in. I was really upset that she was unable to help me resolve my problem but I accepted her response and waited for the calls back. Later that afternoon, around 4 and after I DID NOT hear from anyone I called the office and was able to reach Sam. I explained to him the situation and he became very defensive and insisted that what we had spoken about was different than what I had requested. I WAS FLOORED!! The whole reason we decided to hire movers was strictly for the fridge, fish tanks and cabinets with stone counter tops, my husband has a *** and we waited to be safe. Sam proceeded to tell me I was wrong and never once apologized or said anything to make me feel confident in hiring his company. Even when I said we have to hire different movers to finish the job the couldn't, he NEVER once said anything about trying to make it up to us, or make it better, OR try to keep us as customers. He kept talikng over me telling me I am wrong. I got off the phone with him wishing the line was recorded so he can hear how poor his customer service skills are and maybe it could help out other people that might be just as frustrated with them.

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because: The company has contacted me and I don't agree with what they have offered. They are willing to pay $200 for our trouble and I feel that that is not enough reimbursement. They left about 1/3 of my move, and considering I have to hire another company I feel that $400 is fair.
Sincerely

To whom it may concern,

I am writing to express a concern about Michael B (Operation Manager) and All My Sons Moving and Storage located at ***. My official complaint is an intentional bait and switch pricing practice, overcharging based on a written quote and extreme lack of professional and courtesy when we tried to resolve the issues on a good-faith basis.

Below is the timeline of what transpired:

6/17/2019 – Jason P of All My Sons Moving and Storage came out to *** to provide a quote (attached) to move us to ***. Neither my wife nor I are moving professionals and communicated to Jason that all home contents were to be moved. The quote components were as follows:

Labor (4 people) @ $219/hr for 7 hours: $1,533
One hour of travel time @ $219/hr: $219
Fuel (34 miles): $193
Packing Materials: $153
Total: $2,098

Because of this quote, we decided to use All My Sons Moving and Storage.

7/19/2019 – Day of move. We were quoted 4 people for an estimated 7 hours of labor (@ $219/hr), a total of 28 people hours. However, only 3 movers showed up (@ $189/hr). If the original estimate of 28 people hours was accurate, the extra cost incurred by us was $263, due to no fault of ours. [28/3 = 9.5 hours (rounded up to nearest 15 minute increment) $189 = $1,796 vs. the quoted 7 hours $219 = $1,533. $1,796 – $1,533 = $263]. I have no reason to believe that All My Sons Moving and Storage ever intended to send 4 movers.

To compound matters, a significant number of items were not moved because the truck was full. Included in the items not moved were the grill and desk, which were included on the original quote. These items were especially problematic as I cannot move them on my own. All totaled, there was a pick-up truck and 2 SUVs worth of items not moved.

Finally, the billed cost was $500 more than the estimate. I understand that the quote was just an estimate but the difference was due to the following:

$263 was due to the 3 movers vs. 4 movers (not our fault and possibly intentional)
$50 more than estimated ($244 vs. $193) due to fuel cost mis-estimation
$100 more than estimated due to drive time being billed as taking 1.5 hours vs. 1 hour ($284 vs. $189)
$400 Total of possible intentional mis-estimation

The actual bill is attached.

I believe the fuel cost and drive time were at worst purposely under-estimated to gain our business or, at best, calculated incompetently. In today’s age of maps and GPS, etc., there is no defendable reason for gross misestimation of fuel cost and/or travel time. For the record, the drive between the 2 locations is 50 minutes on ***.

If true estimates were provided, the quote should have been around $2,500 and, if so, we would not have used All My Sons Moving and Storage. Upon reading some online reviews (unfortunately after the fact), it seems to be a common practice to gain business.

7/23/2019 – My wife calls All My Sons Moving and Storage to discuss getting the unmoved items moved. She is told someone will call her the next day, 7/24/2019.

7/24/2019 – No call received.

7/25/2019 – My wife calls and speaks to Michael B who informs her he will not do anything to remedy the situation.

7/26/2019 – I call and ask to speak to Michael B and am told he will call me the next day, 7/27/2019.

7/27/2019 – No call received so I call and am told that Michael B is not working on 7/27/2019.

7/28/2019 – I call and get ahold of Michael B. He calls my wife a liar and says that we obviously were hiding items that we wanted moved in order to get a lower quote. I ask how that would benefit us as we pay on the actual time it takes to move. He has no answer. I asked for a suggestion on how to get the remainder of our items moved and he quotes it as $700. Michael B hangs up on me.

Ideally, I would like $1,100 refunded ($400 for the overcharges and $700 for the fulfillment of the unmoved items), but I realize that is unlikely. At this point, I’d like Michael B and All My Sons Moving and Storage to be held responsible for unethical business practices. I realize no action will be taken unless they are reported, which is why I am taking to time to file a complaint. I think it is wrong that they unquote to gain business but am most upset about the manner in which they fail to work to make this right. Michael B was hostile and uncooperative.

Please contact me if you have any question.

Thank you!

Thank you for the feedback. The account information has been located. An estimator was sent to provide our customer with an estimate on the move. The rate was changed as the customer had more items to be moved than what the customer originally indicated. The branch manager spoke with our customer and requested they go over the inventory together so the customer could be aware of why there were additional charges.

Customer Response • Sep 09, 2019

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because:

Thank you for your response. This is the first civil discourse I have had with AMSMS since our move and I appreciate the opportunity to do so. The branch manager you referenced was unprofessional and the ultimate reason why I chose this course of action. My objections remain twofold. First, we were quoted $54.75 per man-hour but actually charged $63.00 per man-hour. This is a bait and switch tactic that can lower quotes and generate business that the company may otherwise not have had.

Secondly, the bottom line is that the company did not send a truck large enough to move all of our belongings and compounded the error by blaming the consumer. Fortunately, we were able to move the remaining items but what if this was a cross-country move? What if we were elderly or disabled? We were told it would cost an additional $700(!) to move 4 items that were too large for our car (i.e. grill, desk, etc.). It is true that we had someone come to this house to give us a quote. It is not true that at the time of the move we asked to move more than what was pointed out during the quoting. How would it possibly benefit us to obfuscate the items we need to move when in practice we pay for items actually moved? The answer is that it does not. I am not a moving professional. If your company comes to our home, walks through it and declares we need an x-foot size truck, then we rely on his/her professional judgment. When that truck turns out to be too small for the task, it is not the consumer’s fault for relying on the company’s perceived expertise. When speaking to the branch manager, he did (sarcastically) suggest to go through what was moved item-by-item and when I agreed to do so, he backed off. He also referred to my wife as a liar when I said that we did not hide items during the quoting phase. Is that the customer service that can be expected from your company?

Sincerely

Worst moving company ever. They damaged so much of my stuff. I was way over charged and now they won't respond to my emails with concerns. Please save your money and your belongings. I intentionally booked 4 movers at the suggestion of Kirk who gave me the estimate. They sent 3 and never notified me. The movers started off great and then got obviously tired. The charges continued to go up. I had labeled everything as to what room it belonged in and later found kitchen shelves out by my shed. I spent days moving furniture from one bedroom to another because they apparently couldn't be bothered to look at the labels. I have also since made 4 or 5 trips back to the old house to bring stuff that they apparently didn't feel the need to take even though it was packed and ready. I was told that clothes could be left in the drawera but instead they took it out and put it in boxes and charges me for the boxes. I have sent several emails that remain unanswered a month later. Please, please save your money. I'm a single mom that just couldn't do the work myself but I would have been much better off. And I would have saved thousands of dollars. I also got *** and was told that I needed a man to take care of my new house and me. I'm all set.

I am rejecting this response because: what about all of the stuff that was left at the old house, not to mention the mess? What about the fact that my kitchen shelves which were labeled and left out by my shed? What about all of the furniture that was clearly labeled as to which room it went into and was all put in the wrong rooms? I shouldn't have to be moving mattresses, tables, dressers etc to put them in the correct room when everything was labeled including the rooms?

I hired this company to do a moving job some time in April and I provided a $100 deposit, the closing was scheduled for 5/18. On or about 5/11 the real estate deal fell apart, I called the company to inform them of the situation. At that time I was not aware that I had lost the deposit. I was told they will follow up with a few weeks. I ended up with a new deal and I contacted the company last week to inform them of such deal. They simply informed me of the new and increased fees but no mentioned about me forfeiting my deposit, the new closing was scheduled for 8/31. The second deal on my home fell apart again so I called to cancel on 8/6, I was informed that I had lost my deposit. I am confused because I informed them within a reasonable time frame. If I would have known I would have not allowed them to keep my deposit, I understand I would lose the deposit if I didn’t notify them within a certain amount of time which was not the case.

This is the dirtiest, most unethical company I've dealt with.
They gave me an estimate over the phone based on their billing structure, which was $516. Once they came to my house and put my furniture on their truck, they said it took a longer than they thought and after a verbal altercation, decided to charge me $850. I was forced to sign their paperwork and pay what they asked because I was THREATENED that they will lock up the furniture they take it to storage unless I pay this amount.

All My Sons Moving & Storage Response • Feb 05, 2018

This move was quoted an hourly rate over phone, they were quoted 3 men at $129 per hour, with a two hour minimum and one hour travel time. The customer was not given an entire price to pay, only advised of the hourly rate and that we charge by the hour. We do not want our customer to be unsatisfied as we understand miscommunication can occur, please accept our apology and a 10% discount on the cost of the move.

Customer Response • Feb 06, 2018

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because this is still not a fair settlement. The way the company handled this has been extremely unprofessional and predatory. The original PHONE quote, though an estimate, was 2 hours and 1 hour travel time for a total of $387. I budgeted $516 for if the company goes over by 50%. So not only did the company strategically give me a low-ball quote to get my business, but when the workers came they dragged their feet to over 6.5 hours (double the initial estimate), and once they had my items in the truck THREATENED to lock it up in their warehouse if I don't pay the $850. This was a 2 bedroom apartment where everything was already boxed and ready to move with only 3 additional heavy items to move (bedroom, sectional, sofa). This is not the way a reputable company should do business.

I have disputed the amount of $434 on my *** to bring the payment back to 4 hours or $516 total, but I am willing to remove the dispute and remove the honest reviews I posted through ***, ***, and *** if I get a refund of $250, which I think is a fair compromise. This will bring the total down to a reasonable amount of $600, which is what the average I was quoted by several other companies for a full move, not hourly rate.

Sincerely

Complaint: ***

I understand the email and bill, and again confirming that I was led to believe that I was going to be charged a much lower amount over the phone. I was low-balled an estimate and taken for a ride. I did not agree with the final bill but your company threatened that you will hold my belongings on the truck and in storage unless I sign the contract and pay what you asked.

This is illegal and can be fined up to $10,000 as per the FMCSA. I have done my research and also consulted with a lawyer and plan to take this to civil court as well as file a complaint with the FMCSA if this is not settled at a fair outcome asap. Again, I ask for $250 back to be at a reasonable rate of $600 (even more than what was estimated over the phone).
