I was driving down [redacted] going west near [redacted] exit when a trash removal truck passed me in excess of the posted 70 speed limit. As he went past large pieces of debris flew out of the truck where the protective tarp was not secure. The driver sped up to keep me from getting the company name and phone number off the truck. I then passed him and gave a right hand signal as well as motioning for him to exit at [redacted] exit. He signaled a exit also but once I exited he sped up and continued up 540. It took me a few minutes to get back on 540 but he was long gone. I didn't call for a police report because I heard that they don't respond to non collision reports. Called ALLPOINTS WASTE SERVICE IN CHARLOTTE AND explained what had happened. They referred me to their insurance carrier. I called them and gave a person named [redacted])all the information and he said he would forward to the adjusters. I was told to get a damage estimate and fax to them which I did on July 29th. They basically said they couldn't contact the driver(even though they have gps units on all vehicles and know where each truck is at any given time). The insurance company said the insured was not liable. I have some of the debris that penetrated my car in my trunk. Looks like debris from a building demolition. The estimate for the body damage was $1495.00 plus my air conditioner condensor was damaged and has to be recharged every two days. That has been done 13 times at a cost of $940.00. I'm 70 years old trying to survive on $1400.00 a month social security.
