He gave us a price then raised it. Sent inexperienced people who did more damage than good. Then rather than fix the damage, walked off the job. He gave us an estimate to paint our home. After we compared estimates we called him over, personally asked him if there would be any additional charges? He said "no, any additional problems would be fixed and the cost is built into the estimate." After one day he raised the price stating their was more work than originally thought. We agreed with the understanding that all rot would be replaced with pvc and the siding that was raised would be fixed. He agreed. The problems are in addition to raising the price on us after the fact, He subcontracted the job out to a crew with little experience who my wife and I believe were only interested in getting in and out of here as quickly as possible. In the process they did a lot of damage to our home. At one point the carpenter removed two sides of window trim. I asked him if he was going to remove the third piece that was rotten, he replied "O is it rotten?" Knowing that this was not a stupid man I called the owner of the company an asked him to come out to the house. My thinking was the carpenter was only doing what he was told to do. Shortly before the owner shoed up his onsite foreman told me the drip cap over the side garage door was rotten and needed to be replaced. When the owner of the painting company showed up we sat down talked about our agreement, written out in the second estimate he gave us that all rot would be replaced. He agreed than walked outside called the foreman over and said "All rotten wood needs to be replaced." Then he grabbed the foreman's arm an walked off leaving me standing there. I had a very uncomfortable feeling. Later that day when I walked by the side of the house that very same person who pointed out the rot and was told by the owner that all rot should be replaced was working on that door with putty or caulk. when I asked him I thought you told me that piece needed to be replaced, "no it's fine." Over the next couple of days I was told by one crew members that the foreman was told if [redacted] finds some rot fix it. If he doesn't spot it don't point it out, if you can fix it with caulk or putty fix it. Case in point after they walked off the job I went back and scraped off the putty on the drip cap it was rotten. The owner of the painting company came here twice, not to talk with me or look at the job but to talk to someone and then he would leave. When I inquired why he was here I was told he came to question the amount of PVC trim that was purchased for the job. Later on, he refused to accept the calls from the lumber company when they called for a PO number. The list of damages to the house. An inexperienced guy shot nails in the siding, some of than made a u turn and came back out, some caused the siding to raise up. ratter than nailing them in by hand or remove the bent ones they filled every thing in with caulk. it looks like they put it on with a spoon. Sloppy spray paint, Overspray on windows etc. Spots that weren't painted. rot that wasn't replaced. Torn screens because when the took them off the house they threw them under the house. Painted, damaged and clogged Drain pipes and gutters. Damaged windows that were pried open with a putty knife of left to dry in the sun and then forced open or closed while painted to the frame. Damaged siding from the nail gun. Paint chipping, because they never primed the exposed wood as stated in the original estimate. Damage to the roof and landscape because of spills of different chemicals, spilled paint caulk painters putty wood scraps and paint scrapings. Weeks latter I still have paint scrapings and wood scraps blowing off the roof or coming down the drain pipes. Paint spills on the decking. Overspray on the exposed black flashing. (looks terrible) Windows that have paint and overspray on them and windows I was told were finished were never painted. A front door that is painted the wrong color. And then there's the house that needs a second coat of paint. My house is worse than when they started.Desired SettlementIn a perfect world we would like to have him pay for a third party to come in and paint the house and fix all his mistakes. Do the job he was suppose to do. Replace all the damaged screens, painted gutters and drain pipes (which should not of been painted to begin with) damaged windows etc. compensation for all the time and work I put in trying to fix his mistakes. At one point before he chose to walk off the job I told him the siding looked terrible, in jest I told him I could fix it or make it look better, rather then say we'll fix it, he gave me his blessing. I scrapped off all the caulk and either banged in the nails or removed them, the siding sat right down which was all I wanted to begin with. The owner of this company was very condescending to my wife and I. When I complained about the nails either raising the siding or the ones that made a u turn and are pointed out away from the house (which someone could get hurt)he stated, " it was your idea to put nails in we wanted to use caulk." Then latter on when he realized or found out he was wrong he texted us that hardy plank shouldn't be caulked. Well what is it caulk or nails? He's the one putting caulk on peoples homes. All I wanted was some strategically placed nails which hardy plank recommends. Not some inexperienced kid with one hand on the ladder wildly shooting nails into the house with a nail gun. Then when my wife complained about the color on the front door she figured since it was wrong an had to be repainted anyway she'd change the color. He came over here verbally abused my wife to me. He went on to say, "she's just not happy with the color she chose, now she wants us to change it." First she was very polite when she asked him to change the color because it was wrong an needed to be repainted but more importantly when he walked up to the front door with the Sherwin-Williams color chart and it didn't match he looked like a horses [redacted]. But then He wanted to argue about the fact that in the Sherwin-Williams color chart it clearly says that you need to put this paint over a grey primer He stated he knows better. Bottom line the colors wrong. He subcontracted the job out including the carpentry work. So when he came back a second time to raise the price, it was not about additional labor, it was all about the money he had to pay for materials which was less then the additional amount of money he charged me. He accused us of lying when we mentioned the torn screens. We paid to have someone install a screen under the pouch why would we do this if we had holes in the screens up top? When he couldn't change the price a third time he told people that we were not willing to pay for the work that had to be done. The only problem with that statement is, not that I would of agreed to it but he never asked us for more money. He accused us of being unreasonable customers after different neighbors pointed out to us what was kind of obvious, the house needed a second coat of paint. My wife and I are honest people, we have pictures and emails to back up everything we stated here. The pictures speak for themselves. Everything I've stated I personally was told by his crew. At one point he told them the only problem with this job is the customers home. What does that say about the customers who pay this man hard earned money, go off to work and put their trust in the fact that this company is going to do the right thing. Or the people that don't have any back round or knowledge of what should be done, the right way. I have to admit being from up north, there was a learning curve about this hardy plank, which is just now making it's way up there. If I wasn't here I would of taken their word that they did their best, the problem was with my house. Yes I would like to be compensated for everything, but more importantly I'm hoping by putting this complaint in with you the Revdex.com you'll help stop this company from doing this to any other undeserving hard working family in our community.Business Response /[redacted]/We have tried to resolve any and all disputes with this customer before his complaint was submitted. I, too, have all email correspondence to back up my side of this story. This customer was verbally abusive on many emails sent to me and was very difficult to work with. This customer stated that we walked off the job. This is not correct. He asked us to not come back. He, at first gave me 3 options. 1. WE can finish the job. 2. We can walk away from the job and were even and He will pay someone else to finish the job. 3. We can contact our lawyers. This is all on his email. I proceeded to let the customer know that we have never not completed a job and don't plan on it now. We wanted to complete the job. I gave him a detailed email on how we will fix any issues he felt that we made.We were set up to come and complete the job but the day before we were supposed to come he emailed me and told us not to come back and if we did he would turn us away. I finally said that if he did not want us to come back that we would not come back. Again, I have this all on email. We had every intention on coming back to complete the job. This customer misunderstood a lot of things that is said. I never told him that we would not change the price with regards to carpentry. When he asked me specifically on email about price changing this was directly linked to if the house was going to need more than 1 coat on the house. It turns out that he felt that it needed a 2nd coat on siding. I said, OK we will put a 2nd coat on the siding. I am a man of my word. We had every intention of putting a 2nd coat on the siding. I never told this customer that we would not charge for additional carpentry. We found at least 15 to 20 additional pieces of rotten trim. I communicated this to the customer after the first or 2nd day of work. He told me to get him the numbers that night. So, I emailed him the price. He said he was not happy with that price. He told us to continue replacing rotten trim and that we would work it out in the end of the job. The additional carpentry items were NOT on the original estimate. I was extremely fair with the pricing. He continued to ask us to replace more rotten trim and we did so to appease him. This customer seemed to want everything for free!!This customer is so off base when he says his house looks worse than when we started. On the contrary, the house looks fantastic. We may have had a few issues with nails not fully fastened to siding (which ironically was ALSO not on estimate). Gutters were on the estimate to be painted. BUT we were willing to fix any and all issues which all the emails will show. In closing, we are willing to to come back and fix any legitimate issues and put a 2nd coat on siding as we had planned on doing when this customer stopped us from doing so. We are only willing to do this if the customer will sign a change order with all the additional rotten trim that was replaced and the remaining balance owed to All-Pro Painting be held by an agreed upon attorney. If the customer does not agree to let us come back then we will be forced to take a different action.
