Hubert H., the owner of this company was apparently hired by Toronto Hydro to trim back trees that may either touch or cause damage to Hydro wires.
Instead of informing us of what he planned to do, he went around to our backyard and without us knowing, savagely cut down the tree I planted at the corner of my backyard. He began his cut about 4.5' from the ground. He stopped just over halfway and wrenched the whole treetop off, tearing the bark 2' down the tree towards the roots and completely killing the tree. This is not a caring arborist; an arborist knows how to trim trees in order to save them. Not destroy them. When I confronted him, he laughed and tried to walk away. I asked him for a work order, which he refused to provide. In addition, this man was using a chainsaw without a chain guard which is against the MOL regulations. This chainsaw was swinging freely in his hand when 2 small girls came out from the building behind. They were narrowly missed by the chainsaw. Even after both they and their caregiver jumped back and exclaimed in shock, Hubert ignored them.
This was a dangerous situation given the fact that he was angry with me and several of my neighbors who came to my defence.
When I called the number on his truck later in the day, he answered and told me that he wasn't going to compensate me, there was nothing I could do about it. That his job was protected. I suppose so...he's the owner of the company. And I'm out of a tree, that held sentimental value.
To quote this 'Arborist', it's just a tree.
The complaint was by a tenant of Toronto Community Housing who ordered a weed Manitoba maple cut down that was growing into a light standard. The job was totally confined to a back yard vacant of any people and performed by a professional arborist with over 40 years of forestry experience. The equipment used had all safety features in place and functional. Two young girls were observed on the main walkway outside of the work area as we were cleaning up. Grounds men were present to control pedestrians and protect them. All of the comments with the exception we removed the tree are false and intended to damage to the company because the tenant was upset the tree had to go. This situation is between the owner and the tenant, we were doing our job as directed. The tenant was profane and would not listen to an explanation or allow us to complete the work.
