I received your letter yesterdayI'm sending you my correspondence from the Attorney Generals
Office and my reply
I have had no contact with the complainantShe made the comment to you that the sewing machine in question was a gift from her father years agoFrom the condition of the machine when I got it showed a total lack of care on her part for both the machine as well as the source of how she got itThe reason she brought it in was clearly obvious to her and to meIt was not usableI am still puzzled as to what the purpose was in bringing it in if she had no intention of having it fixed other than having it fixed at no costHer intentions were clear by the fact that she makes an issue of free estimatesA free estimate does not mean free repairShe did not want to even wait long enough for me to give her a free estimate as well as not answering her phoneEven after I did leave a message it wasn't until the next day she called backUpon her calling back she showed no interest in even paying the basic service chargeI had done three hours of pure additional labor to get it un-seized of which I only charged her 1/hour of that.If you have any further questions regarding this case feel free to contact meThank you

Dear [redacted],
Thank you for your further inquiry. As I reiterate [redacted] came in and dropped off her machine for service. She was in a hurry to go someplace. I could have looked at her machine as I do with all my customers when they bring them in. I remember asking her to wait a few minutes while I looked at it but she was in such a hurry to leave. I had to even tell her to wait long enough to get her contact information. I do not give written estimates because many times there are other issues you do not find until you get into a machine. Anyway, I do not offer in any advertisement that I give written estimates, only free estimates.
She made the statement that she had just used the machine and was concerned about a tension problem. Tensions are a minor issue that are resolved when doing a service. She could not have used the machine for a long time because the cam followers were seized up to the point of taking 3 hours labor to un-seize, plus the machine was so sluggish that the motor wasn't able to make it run which is common when they are seized up. As it was I only charged her 1/2 hour for 3 hours labor. When machines come in seized up I make very little money. The only way machines seize up is lack of lubrication for setting for months or years not being used. Most repair shows will not work on seized up machines because they lose money.
She complained of not being notified but did she call me? No! Did she answer the phone when I called for two days? No! Even after I left a message at the end of the second day, it wasn't until 11:33 A.M. on the third day she finally called me and wasn't interested in anything except getting the machine back at no charge.
I have been repairing sewing equipment household and industrial for more than 20 years and I get a lot of referrals from satisfied customers and if I was running a shady repair service I would have been gone a long time ago. Just for your information, I am sending you a copy of an e-mail from a referral I just got.
Finally, as she stated the only problem was the tension and she knew what my basic service rate was from when she originally called about the repair as I tell everyone and its listed on my wall in two places which is in plain sight and easy to see so what did she think I was going to do? Tune her machine for nothing! I know when she tried to use it she found it wouldn't work and that's why she called. Also you can't know if the tension is off without using certain procedures to check it that she knows nothing about.
[redacted], is just a scammer trying to get work done for nothing. I have done nothing wrong and this is the last go around so please do not pursue this any further as i'm not either. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Jerry D[redacted]

Complaint: [redacted]I am rejecting this response because:
As stated before, I asked for an estimate only. I did not agree to any repairs. I did not receive any written information as was attached by Mr. D[redacted], regarding his fees or policies. He did not offer to look at the machine in my presence. He was busy working on another machine when I arrived and did not stop work. I needed to go to a medical appointment so we left with an agreement that he would call me with an estimate.
There is not reason that I would lie about the machine's background. It was a gift from my father. I have used it consistently over the years. It was not frozen as he claims, as I had just used it. I noticed a tension problem that I could not correct, so I decided to look for a repair person. As I stated before, his advertisement both on the web and in the phone book, indicated free estimates. He started work before giving me a chance to agree to the work. What more can I say?
I have no reason to try to trick this man. I just wanted to get my machine back, as I did not authorize any repairs. Sincerely,[redacted]
