I called the business on Thursday July 2nd to verify what time that the business would be open on Friday July 3rd and was told that the store would be open 9-6pm and that is was 1st come and that the job would be done and I could wait for it. I then proceeded to arrive on Friday morning in which I was the 1st person there and dropped my car off for muffler/pipes repair. I was then told that I have someone pick me up so I didn't stay all day as they weren't able to check my car right away and fix it yet I was I told it was 1st come and that is how it would work. I was then told that there were 5 cars dropped off the night before that had to be done before they could check my car out and fix it and that I wouldn't hear from them til the afternoon. So I am not understanding the policy of 1st come and 1st fixed as they stated they work basically the same as their w 130th location. I was never told to drop my car off the night before in which it seems that is how they work. I then called my wife and she had to come pick me up in which that should've never had to happen. I received a phone call at 238pm asking me to call back as they found another issue with my car as they had to leave a voicemail as I wasn't able to answer. I called back and was told my gas tank all of a sudden was leaking and coming out pretty good. I did not have a leak when I arrived. I did not have a leak at my house either in which I only live about 15 minutes away and drove straight there for a muffler fix. I then showed up about 4pm to only be shown my car leaking gas. The gentleman then showed me where on my tank it was leaking and seems as if it may have been smacked with something on accident and caused a piece to fall off. You could see that they tried to wipe the gas away down my tank as well. While I was there all I kept hearing was my family owns this business and we don't try and screw anyone and we have been in business for a long time. He said he was only told about the incident but wasn't present when the tech was checking it out so he doesn't know if an accident may have happened. Yes the spot may look rusty but you can see that it most likely was hit and caused it to leak. The guy kept saying that I was wrong and then got *** from inside and told him to come video so I didn't blame him for anything else that happened as if he was covering something up. He then changed his story and said that the tech told him my car was leaking in the parking lot before he pulled the car in in which that is a made up lie as he didn't tell me that the first time. If a mistake happens I feel a company should fix it and not just keep telling his family owns the business and they don't mess up and are good at what they do. I will agree they are great as I have had many cars taken there yet when you cause an accident no matter how big or small you own up and fix it. I feel this should be taken care of in different levels and you can read that in the outcome.

Good afternoon ***,I am emailing this to you by request of *** for Complaint IDI have attached 3 photos for your reference and the letter, which a signed copy was also faxed.

To whom it may concern,

In response to complaint ID
The gentleman did show up Friday morning July 3’d and we informed him that it is first come first serve repairs and there were five vehicles ahead of his. We informed him if he did not want to sit and wait, he could call for a ride and we would call him once we pull it in to inspect it. The W130th location has the same policy and typically has several hours wait and line of people at the door when they open.

My mechanic came in and informed me that he did notice it had a leak on the underside before he pulled the vehicle in. Typically, he checks under a vehicle that Is here for exhaust repairs to make sure nothing is hanging, so at this point he noticed the leak.
I instructed him to pull it in on the drive on lift so we could take a look and let the customer know. We pulled his vehicle in our shop onto the drive on lift and raised it. At this point it was clear to my mechanic as well as myself there was a gas tank leak in a spot that was rusted. I called the customer and left a voicemail to give the shop a call back.

Once the customer called back I informed him of the gas tank leaks and informed him we could not repair the exhaust leaks until the gas tank was repaired. It is a safety concern and fire hazard to weld around a gas leak. The customer stated he was not aware of a gas leak before bringing it to our shop and started accusing the mechanic of damaging his vehicle. I informed him I could lift his Acura once he arrived to show him the exact concerns.

Once the customer arrived, he walked in accusing us of damaging his vehicle. I proceeded to pull his car back in on our drive on lift to show him the gas leak. He was still at this point saying we damaged the tank.

I explained we had done nothing but drive the vehicle up onto our drive on lift, there was no excess weight or strain on the vehicle. Also again mentioning my mechanic noticed it prior to os even driving it. The customer wanted to see the leak more clearly, so at his request I gently dabbed a shop towel to soak the gas up. I also had my manger record a video because the customer was making false accusations. The video and photos clearly show the rust hole that rotted through the tank, you can also see there is slight bubbling on the tank. The bubbling is an indication that this was not a fresh leak.

Unfortunately, we do not repair gas tanks at our shop. I understand his frustration, but the leak is natural wear and tear on the vehicle. We were just the people who noticed it and brought it to his attention.

I am sorry he is going through this but there is not any way we could have predicted the leak nor could have the customer. We offered the best option available. He was not very friendly when he came in and spoke to myself or my crew, calling him will not do much good as we cannot repair a gas tank and the way he accused my shop of doing this I feel he should apologize to us. We wish him the best, and hope he repairs it as the leak will only continue to get bigger.

Revdex.com:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

[To assist us in bringing this matter to a close, we would like to know your view on the matter.]

After reading what the company sent back I am not pleased or feel it was resolved. As you can see that it took the company a month to respond once they recieved my complaint. It seems like the gentleman decided to come up with a different response to each thing I stated as if a good excuse is what was needed to act as if himself and the company was correct. I stick by what I stated and as you can see all was turned around to make it my fault now. The pictures are not accurate to his description as the gas was wiped down my tank by them making it look worse than it was. If they would have taken the pic before they wiped the gas away then you would be able to see the truth. He did just blot the tank once but that was only because he said he wanted to record it so I wasn't lying but I even told him that wasn't the truth and that he knew that he wiped it before. Also, just because you see rust does not make something leak as the gentleman states. If you don't have a leak when you drop something off and it then leaks once you go to pick it up means most of the time the place of business taking care of your car caused damage. Even if it was just a slight hit on something you can cause damage. My favorite is when he told me nobody noticed anything until the car was pulled in and then he changed his story to saying it was seen before. I even stated this in my original complain yet he changed that around to help his cause. I feel this is a cover up of some sort and that is why it took so long to come up with a good letter of excuses to make their company look like nothing happened. If you wanted to brag that your company never messes up and that your family owns it then man up to the fact you caused damage and do the right thing. I even took the car to them after the leak was stopped and they called out to the Oberlin office to get my info on my car. I called and asked for the owner to call me yet nobody ever did as I left my phone number with them. If they are saying I should call them to apologize or even talk to them what is the point as I already tried and they ignored me until they came out with this false statement. If this is how they treat customers and want to make their company look then so be it. I am still looking for a better result as I stated originally.

Regards
