Review: I wish there was a ZERO STAR option. This company RIPPED US OFF.

My husband and I own a small landscaping maintenance company and have ordered rock from these guys off and on for several years. What's always made us nervous is the fact that they take phone orders (and your credit card number) but provide no invoice or receipt. They hold your credit card number, then charge it on the day rock is delivered (SKETCHY). Here's where it unravels...

On 5/14/15, we ordered 6-tons (a small mountain delivered by dump truck) of 1-inch SaddleBack Brown landscaping rock for one of our clients. This was the 2nd order of this color, which we were matching from the first half of the job we did for them last November. Both our November 2014 and May 2015 invoice to our clients show we were providing SADDLEBACK BROWN rock. In fact, when I called and spoke with [redacted], I was working off our November invoice, which stated SADDLEBACK BROWN rock, so I would be sure to match what we'd already provided.

Imagine our surprise Monday morning, 5/18/15, when we received a call from our now unhappy client saying the mountain of rock in his driveway didn't match at all what was already in their yard from our previous work.

My husband called AllStar right away and spoke with the manager, [redacted], who said they get 6 calls like this a week and that it's not their fault the rock is wrong. Could ALL those customers be wrong??? He had my husband talk to [redacted], who took the order. She said I ordered "table mesa brown" which is what was delivered (no wonder it didn't match). Now we have NEVER ordered that color for any of our other jobs, and in fact, until this fiasco, I had never even heard of that color. Still, she insisted that is what we ordered and nothing could be done. When my husband pushed back, she said, "You're [redacted], right?" to which he said, "No, this is [redacted]." Even with this obvious indication she'd mixed up the orders, she insisted she'd made no mistake and that we received what we'd ordered. She then went on to insist that she'd told me about this other color and that I'd agreed to it because it was cheaper. Now, why in the world would I order a cheaper rock that would never match to finish a job that we'd already started with another color? It wouldn't have mattered if the rock was free - it wouldn't have worked for the job!

My husband then got back on the phone with [redacted], who said we were out of luck, that no mistake was made on their part and if we wanted to return the (WRONG) table mesa brown rock to the quarry, then perhaps they could exchange it. This was in no way reasonable, as the rock was delivered by dump truck and it would have taken us ALL DAY, SIX TRIPS, and a huge labor expense to manually shovel rock all day to get it back to them. What's worse? [redacted] told [redacted] they don't even have saddleback brown in their yard right now!

So, all said and done, ALLSTAR DELIVERED THE WRONG ROCK. ALLSTAR CHARGED US FOR WRONG ROCK. ALLSTAR MADE NO EFFORT TO ACKNOWLEDGE THEIR MISTAKE, MAKE THIS RIGHT, OR KEEP OUR BUSINESS.

We have documentation of November & May invoices showing we invoiced our customer for SADDLEBACK BROWN rock. We have QuickBooks notations of the phone call with [redacted] indicating SADDLEBACK BROWN was ordered.

They provide no receipt and no written confirmation of orders, so it's their word against ours.

However, I believe we have the benefit of doubt given we were ordering to match rock we'd previously ordered from them for the same customer.

We do everything we can to make our customers happy and we would have had to hand-shovel rock all day to relocate this to a dump location - and we did offer to do this for our client. Fortunately for us, he was very gracious (thank God!) and decided to allow us to shovel all the rock we'd installed last November from their front yard to the back yard, then install this new (wrong) rock in their front yard only. We had to absorb the loss of a whole day's labor added to the job (about $300), which is less than the $1,000 it would have cost us to remove the bad rock, order delivery of replacement rock and install that. So, we're out $300 instead of $1,000.Desired Settlement: Acknowledgment of their mistake and $300 refund off the rock for the labor cost we incurred resolving their mistake with our client.

Review: On December 16, 2014, I went to All Star Materials with a large coke cup of rock from my front yard and asked if they had any of this type of rock that would go in my front yard. The sale associate said they did and it was called Yavapai Coral. He then took me outside and showed me the rock which looked like the rock I had. I then went back and forth trying to decide how much my front yard would need. The sales associate knew that I was going to use this rock as decorative rock. The next day when it was delivered, the driver called me and said that the material he had was for use under pavers. I said I ordered rock and only wanted the same type of rock on my front yard. The then said I should speak with the sales associate, which I then called and did. The sales associate assured me this is exactly the same rock that I had brought in out of my front yard for him to look at. When I got home and saw the large pile, it was 90% dirt with a small amount of Yapai Coral rock. It was material used to go beneath pavers and not for residental front yards. When it rains or even the wind blows all that dirt will be in other people's yards or on the street. I feel this is a scam and I was purposely misled not once but twice. The driver could see the difference and he was being honest. The sales person knew he was misleading me into thinking I would be purchasing the exact same material as what I had in the large coke cup. He did not tell me otherwise. The same he showed me was of the rock I have. It wasn't a sample of a pile of dirt with only 10% rock like I have. Therefore I feel this is a scam. This was intentional misleading and now they refuse to come take this material. They can't give me the right material because they don't carry it and this is what they should have told me. They refuse to refund my money. Now I have a big pile of dirt in my front yard and I am trying to sale my house.Desired Settlement: Refund my credit card for the $184.96 and come back and take the material back. I cannot use it. Each day it sits in my yard, it hurts my chance of selling my home.

Review: On 2/25/15, I placed an order for 3/4" Madison Gold sized and washed. The material was delivered on 3/2/15, in the AM while raining. On 3/3/15 the delivered gravel was spread and did not resemble the Madison Gold in the front yard which was delivered from the same company. The spread stone had a white surface and was not as the front yard stone. After three attempts to wash the stone the white powdery surface returned. I called and advised of my concern to size and finished product. On 3/9/15 a representative arrived to review our concern if the correct product was delivered. He indicated the stone was what we ordered but could not explain the white surface. He washed a hand full of the delivered stone and the stone from the front yard and indicated they were the same. However, as time passed the stone from the rear yard (delivered on 3/2/15) began to dry and resume to have the white surface. The company representative placed each sample in small bags he had in his truckand indicted he would present the problem. It is now a month and there has been no contact.Desired Settlement: I have now spent more time watering in attempting to wash the stone with little satisfaction. If the stone delivered is the correct size and is Madison Gold, they should have it washed as ordered.
