personal injury claim they sign what we call a medical reports and doctor's lien. The patient signs this form and is made aware that regardless of what insurance says they are ultimately made responsible for the bill. We never inform a patient that insurance will cover 100%, because that is never a guarantee. Within this case the patient maxed her benefit through her liability insurance and was informed that the patient remaining claim would be forwarded to the third party insurance. When a patient is released from care they are informed of the final balance and are informed to continue to follow up to make sure that all bills are paid before taking any type of settlement from the insurance. When we called the third party to follow up this year to see if the claim was still open they informed us that the claim had been settled and was closed. Patient was paid for her settlement which included balance in our office. We spoke to patient letting her know of balance. Patient never responded we sent numerous statements prior to sending patient to collections. We also make phone calls. Attached please find the lien the patient signed and a copy of the ledger showing number of statements that were sent to Mrs. [redacted]. While I was going to the doctors office I tried to pay my co pay the billing person which I think was the doctor's sister told me no I didn't have to pay anything because American Insurance is making payments. At my last visit she told me that this was the last visit that the insurance would cover and that I could continue to go and just have my own insurance take over. When I told her no she said ok then you are all set. I will take care of the rest. I want to say about 6 months later I received a settlement from American Insurance because they said they needed me to settle and advised that I should have received any bills associated with the accident since their last payment was sent awhile ago. So I settle and the amount included a bill I received from the hospital. Five years after my accident I receive a bill, the first one. Confused I called to find out why I was receiving a bill. The billing person then told me "well the lady who was doing the billing before didn't bill correctly and now we are finding bills that were supposed to be sent out awhile ago." I don't feel like the office staff took care of my billing correctly and now they are trying to make me responsible for their billing mistake. I really enjoyed the services doctor [redacted] provided the staff was very nice as well. But this whole situation about the billing. If I was suppose to receive a bill why didn't I receive a bill for so long after.

the status of the collections wont change. you were made aware of this bill and when you were released from care made aware to make sure before you take any settlement from insurance that you make sure all of your outstanding medical bill are taken care of! we had sent many statements left plenty of messages and when you don't respond or try to work a payment plan out. im sorry but this is not an error in our part. the bill will remain in collections until it is paid,
