Allard Auctions Inc Reviews (4)

I have done business with Allard Auctions a few times over the past few years selling my Native American photography/artwork. I understand their policies which include payment 35 days after a major auction. I have had to call every time to receive my payment. They have never paid me on time. Last year in Aug of 2015 I sent a rare catalog to them among other items to be auctioned. It did not sell so they put it back in inventory. I have politely called and asked them no less than 5 times (speaking with everyone who worked there including Steve Allard the owner) to send my catalog back and I will sell it myself online. It is now Jan of 2016 and I still do not have it. Steve personally told me when I last spoke to him that this is not on his priority list. Marine his assistant said that someone will need to go look for it however this never happens. She told me this 2-3 times now. They make me feel uncomfortable having to call for my own property and or payment. I am a business owner myself and find this sort of business practice appalling. They sold over 1000.00 worth of photographs in November of 2015 of mine. The buyer did not pay so once again I am asking repeatedly over the last month or so for my items back. Now they still have my catalog from last year as well as my photographs, As of today (Feb 2, 2017) I have again received no communication from them, no items shipped back and no tracking number which I asked for twice in the past week.

The last auction was over 3 months ago and I had no idea the buyer didn't pay. I was patiently waiting for payment and called 3 times. Left messages and emails and never received any sort of communication back. Finally about a week ago Steve emailed me to let me know the buyer didn't pay. That was the last I heard from him or his organization. This seems to be there mode of operating.

As of today they are holding thousands of dollars of my property and will not ship it back or communicate with me. I am glad this was the last time I was going to do business with them. Sellers beware. I am guessing if I have had problems constantly with them that others have as well.

I'm patiently waiting Steve Allard…….. Please send my items back

Bidders beware! Our organization participated in Allard Auction's August 13th Sale and had a very unpleasant experience with this business. The auctioneer was so disrespectful and unethical, we unfortunately had to consider our purchase as undeliverable. After the auction, Allard's suddenly advised there was now only one option to ship our purchase who was found fraudulent by grossly inflating shipping costs. Live Auctioneers, who facilitated the bid, currently has Allard Auctions under investigation in connection with this so called "independent" shipper as our report was not the only one received. When brought to their attention, the owner suspiciously refused to look into the matter and literally threatened us if we did not pay the outrageous shipping - very professional. Should you ever consider doing business with this disreputable company, I would demand a shipping quote be provided in writing before placing a bid. Again, beware and bid at your own risk.

Review: I bid on a lot at Allard Auctions for $1000 and I was informed that I was the highest bidder but the following day that lot was sold to another bidder on "the floor" for the same amount; a $1000. I called Allard but was hung up on when I told them of the situation.Desired Settlement: I want that lot to be sold to me as I was the highest bidder of $1000 first.

Mr. [redacted], placed an

absentee bid through {Collector, a third party online bidding platform, on a

lot in our Big Fall Phoenix Auction held on November 9 & 10, 2013. As I

attempted to explain to Mr. [redacted], he was the high bidder on that platform only, prior to the start of the live auction, but on any

particular lot we may have live floor bidders, live phone bidders, live

Internet bidders on another online bidding platform ([redacted]), plus other

absentee bidders via email, phone, fax, mail, our in-house website, and

absentee bidders from the other online bidding platform.

During the live auction,

which was held at the [redacted] Hotel 8c Suites in

Mesa, Arizona and started at 12:00 MST, his high bid on lot 47 was administered

by [redacted] as if he was bidding live online (we are never made aware of

absentee bids placed through [redacted] or [redacted]). In this particular

instance, his competitor was at least one live in-house floor bidder. As in all

live on-site auctions, the auctioneer recognizes the bids as he sees them,

taking turns as they are called out. In this case, bidding progressed at the

published increments and the auctioneer acknowledged, the floor bidder at $900,

then the [redacted] bid (Mr. [redacted]) at $950, then the floor at $ 1000. The auctioneer

asked for $ 1100 but as Mr. [redacted]s maximum bid was $1000 and no more bids were

presented by [redacted] on his behalf, the auctioneer sold it to the floor

bidder for the last bid of $ 1000.

Mr. [redacted] called us during

the auction and demanded that he be awarded the lot and would not listen to nor

acknowledge my explanation of the bidding process. Ultimately, I was not able

to help him so I suggested, he contact [redacted] to perhaps get a better

understanding of the live bidding process. I told him I had to get off the

phone as we were in the middle of the auction and I had other matters to attend

to, and I hung up. After the auction, I received an email from Mr. [redacted]

threatening to report us for illegal practices which I forwarded to [redacted]

for their response. They also tried to explain the process to him to no avail.

We have been in business as

an auction house for over 43 years, and have offered live Internet bidding for

the last 12. We have customers who have bid repeatedly with us for much of that

time with many of them moving to the convenience of live Internet bidding in

recent years. We understand that the auction experience can be highly

exciting and emotional for many, especially those new to it and we are very

sorry that the bidding did not go as Mr. [redacted] thought it should.

Please feel free to contact us with any

questions.

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

WHAT "[redacted]" WROTE IS INCORRECT, UNTRUE, OR BOTH BECAUSE IT IS NOT POSSIBLE THAT THE AUCTION BIDDING WAS DONE IN THE WAY [redacted] REPORTED BECAUSE BEFORE THE AUCTION STARTED I WAS NOTIFIED THAT I WAS THE HIGHEST BIDDER AT $1000. THE AUCTION SHOULD HAVE OPENED AT $1000 BEING MY BID WITH OTHER BIDDERS FOLLOWING. MY FIRST BID WAS FOR $850 WITH A $1000 CEILING. BEFORE THE AUCTION STATED OTHER BIDDERS PUSHED THE PRICE UP VIA INTERNET SO I BECAME THE HIGHEST BIDDER AT $1000 BEFORE THE LIVE AUCTION STARTED. SOMEONE DID NOT DO THEIR JOB CORRECTLY AND CHECK WHAT THE ACTUAL BID WAS ON THE LOT BEFORE THE LIVE BIDDING STARTED. I NOTICED [redacted] DID SOMETHING LIKE THIS BEFORE WHEN THEY SOLD A LOT TO ONE INDIVIDUAL, BILLED HIM, AND LATER RETURNED HIS MONEY AND SOLD THAT LOT TO SOMEONE ELSE.

THE [redacted] SERVICE STATED THAT ANOTHER $1000 BID FROM ANOTHER BIDDER CAME IN BEFORE LIVE BIDDING STARTED. [redacted] CLAIMS THERE WAS NO OTHER ABSENT BID FOR $1000 BEFORE THE AUCTION STARTED AND THE ITEM WAS SOLD TO A PERSON ON THE "FLOOR." IT IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR THEM BOTH TO BE RIGHT. SOMETHING WENT WRONG WITH [redacted]'S OR [redacted]'S SERVICE OR BOTH AND I HAD TO SUFFER THE CONSEQUNCE AND NEITHER ONE WANT TO ADMIT THEY ARE IN THE WRONG.

THAT LOT I LOST AT [redacted] WAS IMPORTANT TO ME. I TRUSTED [redacted] AND THE [redacted] SERVICE BUT ONE OR BOTH OF THEM DID NOT DO THEIR JOB CORRECTLY.

I RECEIVED THE FOLLOWING FROM THE [redacted] SERVICE:

Dear [redacted],

Allard Auctions requested that we email

you with regards to lot 47 from their Nov.9th

auction.

Although I have used Allards Auction online before and should be considered a good customer, apparently if you call them to complain or ask a question about a completed auction item, they refuse to let you bid ever again in one of their auctions.
I bought a huge Kachina (approx. 4' tall) from them and paid enormous shipping fees only to discover several very very long and deep cracks in the piece when I received it. I went back to the photos from the online catalog and found that they had taken very careful photos which kept the cracks hidden. I did see a small crack, the beginning of a huge crack cut off in the photo, in one photo.
I called the shipper first who asked me to closely examine the online photos which was how I realized it wasn't their fault and how I saw the very careful photography which kept the cracks hidden. The shipper said I should call Allards and discuss it with them. She felt sure they would work with me on a solution to the issue (hah!)
I called and the first time spoke to an assistant who said I had to speak to a director or manager. She said she would heve the person call me. Well, that gave them my name so from then on I could not get past the operator or receive answers to my emails. Needless to say, I never received a call back from them.
What made me more angry was when I saw something I really wanted (although I was nervous about ever using them again given my experience) in their online catalog which they still send me monthly, and when I tried to register, was told I wasn't approved - no reason. Now I try to register for every auction just to see if it will happen again. And it does, every time I am rejected. I guess I've been branded a troublemaker because I called to discuss a problem with them.
Allards is the kind of dishonest place where they do something wrong, and you get punished. They do take very misleading photos, do not describe the items honestly but they do not stand behind their products, do not respond to you, and then without talking to you, decide to take you off their approval list for any further auctions but still send you auction reminders.
You might have no problem with your auction piece if you're lucky but keep in mind that if there's a problem, YOU'RE ON YOUR OWN.
