Review: During the week of June 8th - June 12th of 2015, Brightside Academy was understaffed. When I went to drop my son off on June 10th, I was told that I could not leave him because they had reached their child capacity of 20. All of the other rooms were to capacity as well. After explaining to her that I have meetings to attend, and have already paid for the entire week (I pay two weeks in advance always) that he would be staying and that they would be out of compliance because I had to go. On June 11th, the teacher told me that my son was number 20 in which he was able to stay. I, again, explained to her that he would stay either way. He has already been paid for, and should be accounted for even if he does not show up. So I hope that they are better prepared tomorrow. June 12th a Brightside director from another location came to fill in because the directors at this location were out for different reasons. As I went to drop my son off, I was told that I could not leave my son and if I did it would be considered abandonment. This sparked a very intense conversation. I told her that this issue of being understaffed has been going on since before my son started a year ago. I already paid for him. I don't understand why they accepted all of these kids from a recently closed daycare when they couldn't handle the ones that were already enrolled. I also told her that I cannot lose my livelihood because of their company issues when I've already done everything right, paying my bill ahead of time.I requested that my son get put into another room (baby room) she told me that the room was filled. And that all rooms were filled. After being combative with me, I told her to refund me my money. At that point she asked me if I was a private payer. I said yes. She then said she'd take my information down to verify. And that she apologized for the inconvenience AND THAT MY SON COULD STAY WITH HER IN THE BABY ROOM (WHICH HE DID)! So, then I was even more furious about the blatant discrimination! She tolDesired Settlement: I would like a refund of $178.50 for the week of June 8th - June 12th for all of the inconveniences. I am also going to move forward with reporting these discriminatory acts. There was another young lady that was told that she didn't have to worry about getting refunded as she received government assistance (CCIS) to pay for childcare. I explained to her that she should contact her case worker because I am 100% sure that the state is not okay with paying for children that are not in attendance.
