For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below The sink they say we rejected was never brought to the house the salesperson called us and told us it didn't match the toilet so we said we wanted one that matchedThe sprays in the shower were done in the center because the plumber didn't know how to do them so he thought that would be bestThe board was shown to me after it was put in by the plumber and said that was to cover screws The sharp screw still coming into my clothes was pointed out by me, the plumber was unaware that they hadn't covered that one The electrical outlet, the moving of the toilet were all suggested by the contracter working at the house No mention of extra cost was made until weeks after this was doneIf told ahead of time we would have done it ourselves The shower door was delayed because of plumbing issue not because we requested it The holes in the living room wall were pointed out by me and the company didn't know this had occurred The finished work is nice I just want other people to know what they need to go through if they work with this company

I am writing in regards to the complaint filed by [redacted] A [redacted] from Hubertus, WI. The [redacted]s signed a contract for Allen Kitchen and Bath to remodel their bathroom on July 18, 2014, with work to start the middle of September.
Cabinets and all product was in when Allen started their remodel...

project on September 19, 2014. Remodel and inspections were all running smoothly and on time until October 10, 2014 when the customer decided to change the color of the sink because they did not like the color of the sink when installed. Thus, Allen Kitchen and Bath had to ALSO make a new countertop to fit the new sink the customer wanted. We made the new countertop at no charge to the customer but the project was delayed at this point by one week as we rushed to get the counter
tops made in our Deerfield facility.
On October 27, 2014 a problem with the mixing valve was installed in the wrong location by the plumbing company. The reason being is that the owner wanted body sprays in the center of the shower so mixer had to be moved. There was not much room for the mixer as the grab bars were on the left and the faucet was on the righ. [redacted], the plumber and the homeowner had a meeting at the customers house, whereas the customer approved the location of the mixing valve. This in turned caused a delay on ordering the shower door, as all has to be in place for a proper measure for the shower door. Allen Kitchen & Bath gave a $750.00 credit to the homeowner for shower door incident. The shower door arrived on October 20, 2014 and was immediately installed.
The reason for a board was used in the bathroom was because the customer had body sprays in the shower unit and the plumbers are required by code to put the board in for reinforcement and needed to have it mounted. This was all explained to the customer ahead of time
On February 12, 2015 the customer had called to tell Allen Kitchen & Bath that the shower floor was squeaking. We had one of our carpenters immediately go out to the homeowners house to have it looked at and fixed. With a remodel, items settle and more work may have to be completed.
Allen Kitchen & Bath also did some small jobs that were not on the contract and our carpenters did them for the customer without charging time or material. We installed a toilet from the master bath to their half bath, customer was not charged.
Allen also paid an electrician to raise an electrical outlet up 4.5 inches. Time and material was not charged to the customer.
The customer has told Salesperson, workers and subcontractors that Allen Kitchen & Bath did a wonderful job and they love their new bathroom.
Our company takes pride in the workmanship. We have continued to have a strong business since the company started in 1980. We are dedicated to producing the highest quality products, with quality service.

Allen Kitchen & Bath (AKB) started our bathroom remodel in January 2014. The project was a miserable disaster. Product was delivered late. Product quality was sub-standard. Products were installed incorrectly. Workmanship was amateur. No attention was paid to detail. The carpenter was poorly trained, sloppy, and dumped construction garbage in our yard. AKB management was unresponsive to our complaints yet they harassed and threatened us for payments. The tile job in the tub/shower area was so bad that in June 2015 we hired a different contractor to tear out all the tiling and completely redo the tub/shower tile. In short, AKB left our bathroom with more problems than what existed before they started their work.
We reported our problems to News 3 Investigates and to the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection [redacted]. A volunteer with News 3 worked our case for 18 months but her repeated calls to AKB were mostly unanswered. The WDATCP (Consumer Protection) issued a Warning Letter to AKB stating that AKB was not in compliance with two State Laws.
So here is our warning: If you choose to do business with AKB you should expect numerous problems, poor quality, disrespect and deception. You can also expect that your only real option for recourse will be a legal one. Save yourself the time and headache - - don’t ever set foot in the Allen Kitchen & Bath showroom.

Review: Contracted with this company after seeing them at the home improvement show in Milwaukee to re-do our master bathroom. They were to install flooring, tiled shower, frame less shower door, new toilet, sink, vanity, all the plumbing involved, fix any drywall involved, re-do the moulding after floor installed and light fixture above sink. Also install towel bars, hooks, toilet paper holder. The work was estimated to be done in 2-3 weeks. The job started in September, around the 17th and was completed this January 27th. The plumbing was installed incorrectly in the shower but we accepted what was done so that tile would not have to be ripped off and redone. The vanity was installed and then noted that it was done incorrectly so that the new counter top would not fit. They re-cut the holes in the vanity so that it could be shifted over which left large holes in floor of vanity and the back of the vanity. The front of the vanity came chipped and had to be fixed, when fixed it looked worse than the chip so had to be replaced. The toilet seat cover came scraped and the toilet tank cover came with a flaw and both had to be replaced. The shower door had to be re-made because of the plumbers error so this delayed the job some more. The corner seat in the shower had to be re-caulked twice because it was pulling away from the shower wall. The seals on the shower door have already been re-done twice because they were coming loose. The quartz top for the vanity had like a burn mark on it which the company did come back and attempt to fix which left a spot with a different sheen than the remainder of the counter. The first sink that they ordered did not match the toilet so they had to reorder. When the floor was installed and grouted the grout was not cleaned off properly which left very difficult to remove grit. When they came out to fix this issue they used a grout remover that left sticky residue on the floor. It took the owner three more times of washing to get the stickiness off. When they were roughing in the shower they poked holes in the living room wall and into the walk-in closet wall. They put a board over the holes in the closet and had to cut off the sharp point of another screw still showing through the wall. They had to come back another time to fix squeaking of the shower floor. They have repaired all of their mistakes but a 3 week job turned into a 4 month job. The bathroom was mostly unusable the first 3 months of this time. They wanted more money and told us the shower was functional when the shower still leaked into the basement and it did not have a shower door. I could even tell more like saying they were coming to work and than not showing up or coming but leaving after an hour of working.Desired Settlement: Mostly want people to know what they will have to deal with if they use this company. We owe $500 of a $13,125.45 bill, but have been stalling to pay this as they just finished a final repair on Feb. 17th. The $13,125.45 total is with $750 already taken off for the plumber error and $53 off for the parts the plumber took of the owners and used for other jobs not ours.

Response:

We signed a contract for a simple bathroom remodel (new countertop, tub, faucets and flooring) on 1/30/14. Were told the start of the remodel would be in 6-8 weeks and take a week to complete. We were flexible on the start date but since it is our only bathroom with a tub/shower, we expected timely completion. Our designer never came out to take measurements before the start of the remodel but said she would be there the day the project started. After several requests for a start date we were told it would begin 4/29/14 (almost 12 weeks after signing contract). When we arrived home from work that day the bathroom was gutted and the carpenter was frustrated because he had been trying unsuccessfully to get ahold of the designer with questions about the remodel. I contacted her; she said she was unaware the remodel started that day and that she had been on vacation. She said she would talk to the work crew and ensure instructions were clear about the project. In the next week and a half there was minimal work done on the bathroom and a couple of days there were no workmen at our home at all. When we expressed concern, the designer promised us the job would be done by May 8th. On May 5th, the designer notified us that the quartzite piece we selected for the backsplash (1 of a kind) had been broken during cutting. They would attempt to repair but if we were not satisfied, they could replace with tile. We said we did not want a tile backsplash. On May 8th work was not completed as promised. Designer contacted us and requested more money; became annoyed with me for telling her we were dissatisfied with the remodel. She stated that the amount of time was not unusual for a bath remodel and we were not the only people waiting to have work done. We contacted her supervisor and said we no longer wanted to work with this designer. The supervisor took over leadership of the project. We made another down payment. Workmen took some steps forward on the project but work was sub-par and unprofessional (wall base kept coming off, walls not prepped adequately after old tiles removed, poorly made threshold in one doorway and none in the other, supplies ordered incorrectly and required reordering which would take another 6-8 weeks to arrive). The backsplash was installed and had obvious breaks with repair attempts in at least 3 areas. We made a list of concerns and new manager said further work could not be done until we paid more money. We wanted to negotiate a settlement for untimely delays in the project and poor quality of work. We offered to pay a discount for work that was completed but no longer wanted further work done by Allen Kitchen and Bath. We completed some work on our own and will hire our own workers to complete others. We are no longer confident that Allen Kitchen and Bath will complete this task for us in a timely, professional way with reasonable leadership and coordination. We were unable to use our bathroom for over 3 weeks. We would not recommend this business to others.

Contract was signed March 28, 2014 for remodel of our master bathroom. Remodel was to start approx. June 2, 2014. On June 16th, I called and was informed the new date would be June 23rd. I specifically told the designer that we would be out of the country from July 2 - 11th. She had reassured us when we signed the contract the remodel would be a 10 - 14 day turnaround. We had thought the remodel would have been done before our trip, so we had to reschedule. New date: July 21st came and went, no call, no nothing. On Friday, July 25th an electrician showed up late in the afternoon to change 2 outlets. He only had one and no face plate. His tester has little battery left and was leary about live current. There were problems with the shower base, couldn't find the one we wanted. The base was cut wrong, so that made everything off. The cubby was too deep and that had to go on a different wall. We were without a shower for over 5 weeks. The drain that was put in for the shower leaked on to the basement floor. There was damage done to the floor. Our home was a hotel with a revolving door for more than 4 months. The designer ordered the wrong floor tile as we wanted something thinner. New floor was ordered and they couldn't locate it. The back splash was the wrong color and that had to be reordered. We had picked out a light fixture...never got confirmation on that, so we ordered our own. Designer was to send us pictures of mirrors, that never happened. We shopped for our own. Shower door was put in crooked, it was awful. [redacted] came to redo and looks better. Our vanity was physically in our home for 2 weeks. Our garage was a mess with garbage. Workers asked my husband for tools as they came ill equipped for work that needed to be done. I had told the designer that I did not like to pvc pipe in the shower as it was visually disturbing. A plumber came in shaved the pvc pipe down and caulked around it. I went into the bathroom and asked if he would like some toweling to wipe his hands off. He said, "no" and lifted up the toilet seat and rinsed his hand in there. The water was gray for more than 4 flushings. Two things that we will take responsibility for are: Not taking all the drywall down in the shower, that was about a one hour job for 1 person. ( that day there were 3 guys who came and it took them not even 20 minutes). We had told them we would do it and they said, don't worry about it. The other was ordering a different color floor grout that took 3 days. So, from the date of June 4th to completion of December 9th. 6 months for a Bathroom Remodel. I liked the vision of the designer, but I NEVER envisioned it would take 6 months. Word to the wise. Have a start date and completion date in writing with money taken off if not done. I also wrote a 3 page letter to [redacted], never heard a word from him.

We had been looking for kitchen countertops for a while. Our last stop was at this business. We put half our money down on granit.Waited about a week after they cashed our check to call seeing when we could get an app.Asked if they could at least call back the next day with some kind of idea.Nothing.My husband called and got answering machine and left a message if we can't get an app. just give us our money back then. Then they called. Guys came measured came the following week.I was surprised they didn't wipe the edges off of dirt before they put the cauking on but ok I can live with that. They hit my new cupboards with the counter and took a chip of wood out. They were sorry. Ok I can probably live with that. Besides how are they going to fix that. He juat asked me if I have the little pen color that came with the cupboards for scratches.I asked him what that glue was on top of the counter on my island. He said oh that's just glue and wiped it off. They asked for the final check, took it and left. I was wiping the stone dust off and noticed that glue on top that he wiped off came from the corner of the counter being broke off and someone had glued it back on.So I called Allen Kichen and Bath and told the lady that answered. She said she would have someone call me back. Called the next day. Called the 3rd day nothing. So I stopped payment on my check.Got noticed then.Called right away after they couldn't get their money.Said they would call with an appointment. No one called with an app. they called and said they were on there way with new top.We are bothing working so that's not happening. Called the next day after my husband told them when one of us would be home.Came with new top. Said they needed a check before the they could bring counter in. I said I would just release the stopped check. Not happening. Need check. Would not even start on anything with out check in hand. Was made to feel I done something wrong. When in fact they were trying to pull one over on us by installing a damaged counter. Told delivery guy that we want our old check back. He said no problem. I hope for once they do what they say.And do you think we would of gotten a new counter if I hadn't stopped payment. They wouldn't even return our calls.

We had AKB remove a tub and install a walk-in shower in our main bathroom as well as replacing our older water wasting toilets with more water efficient (and higher) toilets. Joe M. was excellent in helping us with the basic design and material selection. The carpenter who worked on the project, Greg [redacted] of A Ward Contracting, did excellent work. Overall, we found that quality of material and workmanship excellent. When we called back with a minor punch list, AKB was highly responsive.
