Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID *** and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me and I will accept a cash settlement assuming the amount is appropriate for the damage incurredHere are the facts: the roof did not and has never leaked before Allen Roofing worked on the roofBlaming the leak on the amount of rain experienced during the period following the roof replacement is assuming and circumstantial at best and dishonest at worstI contacted four roofing companies to determine their practices regarding roof flashing around fireplace chimneys - *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** ** *** *** All four companies I contacted said that they consider replacing any and all flashing including flashing around fireplace chimneys to be expected and a part of roofing replacement, and that hiring another "certified" contractor to do it is not necessaryIn fact, Ferguson Roofing said that they do it as a matter of course if it appears rusted or corroded - "it's as as eating with a knife and a fork." Allen Roofing's claim that it's not their responsibility to replace damaged vent and chimney flashing appears abat best and an attempt to place blame elsewhere at worstAllen Roofing's claim that improperly installing flashing around and exterior to an intact fireplace chimney can cause carbon monoxide to leak into a house is absolute nonsense and not worthy of a response since none of the flue gases impinge on or leak past the flashing at any time
Sincerely,

Response to complaint [redacted] RE: [redacted] A 3-Tab shingle was installed on the roof of the above listed address in October of 2012. Since the original installation there have been at least 2 documented wind events in 2013 that exceeded the manufactures wind...

warranty. Winds registered between 62-70 mph during these events in the near surrounding areas. Winds of this magnitude can cause shingles to break the sealant bond and lift or blow off. In many cases the wind may lift shingles but they can lay back down and look fine from the ground. This leaves them vulnerable to damage during lower wind speeds. We took note that only a few homes near Mr. [redacted] house have a similar shingle installed on their roof. Most have an upgraded shingle that is warranted for higher wind speeds. This could be why other are not having the same type of damage. We have performed blow-off repairs by replacing 10-15 shingles on the back side, down by the chimney in March of 2014 and we replaced 3-5 shingles on the back side near the ridge about 6 months later. Mr. [redacted] contacted our office May 12, 2016 requesting an inspection for hail damage, due to a recent hail storm in the area and also commented some shingles were blown off.  [redacted] W. (one of our estimators), came out for the initial inspection. He discussed with Mr. [redacted] that he seen some noticeable hail damage and there must be something going on with the missing shingles if he’s had several blow-offs. [redacted] recommended Mr. [redacted] contact his insurance company and to let him ([redacted]) know when the adjuster was coming out so he could meet with him. [redacted] felt there was a reasonable chance that the insurance company would at least in part, compensate for the damages. [redacted] had followed up with a few voice messages over the next few weeks, concerning the adjuster meeting and received no return calls from Mr. [redacted]. Mr. [redacted] contacted our office again on May 23, 2016, stating he had shingles blown off several times and he was told the shingles were improperly installed. On May 24, 2016, [redacted] S. (experienced roofer and now an estimator) inspected the blown off shingles and found the nails were not over driven in the area of the missing shingles. [redacted] reported his info back to the office and was told [redacted] W. was expecting to meet with the insurance adjuster concerning the storm damage. On May 26, 2016, we received a service order from the original builder, requesting someone to meet with them concerning an inspection for proper installation. On June 2, 2016 [redacted] B. (experienced roofer and now an Inspector) met with Jake and a helper (from the original builder) to inspect the roof. As Jake took pictures, [redacted] B. found no nails over driven. The nails were flush with the shingle as they are supposed to be. Jake was satisfied and agreed to the analysis of the installation. [redacted] explained to Mr. [redacted] that when wind lifts the shingle it actually pulls over the nail which give the illusion of an over driven nail until you get down and look close at it. [redacted] B. was not aware of who had been there previously from our company so he told Mr. [redacted] the he ([redacted]) would have to talk to our adjustor ([redacted] our estimator) about what he found. Though [redacted] W. should have continued to follow up with Mr. [redacted], he was still expecting a call to me with the Insurance adjuster. If Mr. [redacted] contacts his insurance company, we are still willing to meet with the adjuster to discuss compensation for the hail and wind damages. Sincerely, Customer Service Allen Roofing

Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because: The address of the services rendered was [redacted] under the home owner of [redacted] or [redacted] who is my ex wife. I put in my current address to file the complaint. Again my name was never on the homeowner's insurance. My name was never on the homeowner's insurance or on the title  to the homeorm mortgage. I have also attached a copy of the claim against myr credit report from Allen Roofin.
Sincerely,
[redacted]

Thank you for the new information, we were able to locate [redacted]'s file. After the roofing was complete on of our inspectors were there on 7/2/12. He noted the siding damage above the carport and took pictures. A siding crew was there on 7/5/12 and worked on the soffit's but had to order the siding for the repair. Unfortunately, due to the large storm that year, we couldn't get back out until 10/29/12 to complete the siding repair. The balance due was never paid. A certified letter was sent to [redacted] but we never received confirmation that it was received by her.You were correct, your name was not on any of our paperwork and not on our contracts. A collection agency was use occasionally in 2012-2013 but we did not give them your name (we didn't know it at the time), they must have connected the dots on their own.  I have someone reaching out to the agency to try to get your name cleared at this time but as I said, the balance has not been paid and we don't have control over the collection agencies strategies. Please give it a week or two and contact me directly at our Ellisville office to let me know if it has or hasn't been removed. Thank you,[redacted]

of good faith Allen Roofing and Siding will evaluate the leak and repair it at no charge to Ms. [redacted].
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (2000, 7, 2016/02/17) */

Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2016/01/11) */
Unfortunately, due to all the storm damage this area has received and the recent heavy rains in December, it has made it difficult to get out to look at every roof in a timely manner. Roofs that are leaking have been a priority.
Shingles...

that are not sealing as evident with the shiny tan spots and shingles that are curling up on the edges are not caused by improper installation. Shingle manufacturers call the curling edges "winter cold curl." Our experience is that these shingles will lie back down as the weather warms up.
As far as the shingles not sealing down in places, we will be happy to assist the owner in filing a claim with the shingle manufacturer. We will pull two shingle samples and take pictures of the problem at no charge to the owner. If the shingle manufacturer determines that the sealant is the problem, they may elect to pay to manually hand seal all loose shingles. It is our experience in the past that three shingles blowing off in over six years has not warranted replacing the roof, but that is up to the shingle manufacturer.
In regards to the claim that IKO has quality issues, we have been in business since 1972 and have used almost every shingle manufacturer available in this area. All of them have had quality issues and defective shingles from time to time, including the shingle manufacturers that are being sold at [redacted].

We can not find any record at this time of the customer or performing work at the listed location. We are not members of any Credit Bureau's and do not use collection agencies so I'm not sure how we would be on his credit report. Please have Customer verify the address is correct and/or provide any...

paperwork that would show we where there (ie; invoice, work order, contract...) Anything that would be helpful to correct this situation. Thank you, [redacted]Customer Service

[redacted]Chesterfield, Missouri 63017 To Whom It May Concern: The roof at the address listed in the report was replaced in 2012, and there are no reports of any problems on that roof.  In 2015 we also replaced a roof for Theresa [redacted] at [redacted],...

Ballwin, Missouri, 63021. On January 7, 2016, Mrs. [redacted] called regarding a leak at [redacted].  This was shortly after we had received an unprecedented three days of 10 inches of rain.  In the following couple of days, we received over 400 calls from people with leaks.  Most of the leaks, upon examination of the roofs, were not due to any problem with the roof.  When such a substantial amount of rain falls in a short period of time, any roof can leak, and many did. On January 16, 2016, Allen Roofing sent a repairman to look at the problem.  He found the leak was at a flue pipe.  Upon further investigation, the repairman found that the flue pipe flashing was old and rusted and had small holes in it.  This was discovered after the repairman peeled off some old plastic cement that had been applied on the flue flashing from a previous roof replacement or repair, which may indicate that it had leaked there before.   Eventually, all flashing will go bad and will need to be replaced.  Allen Roofing is not a certified heating and cooling contractor, which is required to replace the flashing.  To reiterate, this flashing is not part of the roof replacement.  Replacing the flashing by an unqualified contractor can result in health risks or possible death from carbon monoxide poisoning. Mrs. [redacted] mentioned several times in her complaint that she has never received a return call from Allen Roofing, which is untrue.  On January 22, 2016, at 12:08 p.m., her salesman, [redacted], left a voice mail on Mrs. [redacted]’s phone, telling her that he had talked to the repairman about the leak and that the flue flashing itself was not covered under the warranty.  He told her that she would need to contact a heating and cooling contractor to get it replaced; and if necessary, we would return free of charge to inspect and relace new shingles around the flue flashing. A few days later, Mrs. [redacted] and an unidentified male returned the salesman’s call.  He again explained the situation to them and offered to come back after the flashing had been replaced. In summary, the flue pipe flashing is old and rusted and needs to be replaced.  This is not Allen Roofing’s responsibility.  In an effort to resolve the matter, if the owner agrees to hire a company at her own expense to replace the flue flashing, we will extend our offer to inspect and relace new shingles around the new flashing if necessary.  In addition, we will hire a painter at our own expense to seal the water stain and paint the ceiling where the damage occurred. If this is acceptable, please notify us as soon as possible, so we can send our painter to look at the job.  If the owner would like a cash settlement instead in the amount of what the painter will charge us to paint the ceiling, we would be willing to do that.  In either case, the flue flashing needs to be replaced, or it will eventually leak again. Sincerely, [redacted]
