Allen's Transfer and Storage Reviews (2)

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response submitted by the business and have determined that the response does not satisfy or resolve my issues and/or concerns in reference to complaint # [redacted]. Please add your rejection comments below. The problem is that there was an estimate for about 4,700$ and the end cost were about 7,500$.  That is a 3,000$ difference.  Had we known that it was going to be 7,500$ we would have gone with a different company.  We paid an extra 3,00$ on top of an estimate, and our end product was an unfinished job.  It is not our fault you inappropriately estimated, and we should not have to accommodate your inaccuracy.  You have changed your story and tune through out this complaint.  By giving an inaccurate estimate you falsely contracted us into your moving company, we would have shopped around or chosen a different company had we known up front that the cost was going to be 7500$ vs 4700$.  1.- First time around, you stated the snowbanks were to high to give an accurate estimate.  Then you stated that the door was locked and you were unable to get into the garage to see our possessions.  You were informed of the boats.  You quoted the BBQ grill, well the canoe was sitting right next to that.  You saw the grill, but didn't see the canoe?  Nothing was blocking the view in-between.  If the garage was locked you were unable to get into it, how were we able to move our stuff out of it?  Plus if you looked through the window the first thing you see is a kayak sitting front and center in the stall.  You chose not not to go through the garage more accurately, that was a decision you made not us. 2- You were informed of a steep driveway, you should have added extra to the estimate to accommodate extra work.  (so that way you wouldn't have to try and charge extra for; extra hauling truck, for extra "charge" to cover your workers, and etc...)3- No one opened prior boxes and went through them prior to packing, they put a sticker on the closed box and loaded it in the truck.  4- You don' t charge extra for you employ to help pull out a dog fence, (a 4x6' panel, times 2) which he did on his own. he wasn't asked to do that.  5- if people can't take their boots off lay down more covering/protection (that isn't a hard idea to come up with).  i already cleaned carpets and floor, so I don't have any picture to hand over to you for "reimbursement of flooring"6- "Doing us a favor" by not charging to bring the car down, What is that really?  You knew ahead of time during the estimate that the car was going to be driven down.  How often, do you not charge to drive a car down? Trust me you didn't do us any favors for this move.  We have an estimate that has a difference of 3,000$ and a move that was incomplete(boxes weren't to the house, they weren't opened, stuff wasn't put together).  Due to the false estimate and incomplete job we have had to pay extra to you and extra just to cover things needed for every day living.  Why should we we pay you an extra 3,000$, when the estimate for 4,700$ was incomplete?  You have altered the story on many accounts to accommodate/cover your own actions. We were going to have the job cover the move and we did try to change our mind and pay for it ourself, you then said that was inappropriate (but still refused to give us a copy of our bill, we had to go through the hospital to get a copy of the bill) Why did you guys refuse to give us a copy of our bill, with the total costs and break down?  It was a false estimate period, not matter how you put the spin on it.  Why are we paying an extra 3000$ for your false estimate?  Regards,

To:  Revdex.comComplaint Number:  [redacted] There was never an estimate scheduled with our office except for February 27, 2015.  I have no idea about any missed appointment.  It was not with our office. I met and corresponded with [redacted] on the initial estimate and all future calls and emails regarding the relocation.  I only spoke to [redacted] one time via the telephone on March 23, 2015 to inform her of the time or arrival on pack day. Mr. [redacted] did inform me at the initial estimate that he did not have the keys to the garage.  We never went into the back yard or the shed.  He named off items from the garage that were to go, indicating that a lot of what was in the garage was not being moved. No moving companies travel to destination to check access.  This is not cost effective and it is the home owners responsibility to make sure the driveway and/or road is passable.  I am sure that no one from Alaska flew to Maine to check the access at their Maine home prior to them moving in there.  That home was not accessible for a tractor trailer and a 28 ft box truck was used to deliver the items to that home.  It is extremely rare for a driveway to not be accessible with a box truck.  Neither Ms. [redacted], nor Mr. [redacted] ever mentioned that the road was extremely muddy, soft and impassable with vehicles other than a four wheel drive pick up truck. It is completely unreasonable to expect the crew to carry boxes 1/4 of a mile up a driveway.  The normal industry standard is up to 100 feet. Allen's Transfer & Storage offered and will pay to clean the carpets that were soiled.  We have mailed them a property damage claim form and asked for pictures to be texted or emailed to us.  We have not received the claim form or the pictures yet. The extra labor that was included was for digging items out of the snow, inspecting and re-sealing the 60 boxes that were already packed in the basement, and for the extra time to make sure their auto was safely stored in our warehouse overnight and for scheduling and providing a driver to transport their auto to New Hampshire.  The time was inclusive of all of these items.  A normal transport of an auto from Maine to New Hampshire would have been $800.00 which was communicated to Mr. [redacted] when he asked us for the favor. No extra labor was charged for the extra time to load and unload their pick-up at destination.  This is definitely an allowable charge under the Interstate Transportation tariffs.  We went above and beyond to accommodate this customer.  [redacted]Allen's Transfer & Storage/Mayflower[redacted]  **
