Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID 12654730, and find that this resolution is workable but I still have the same concerns as below: Smart72 needs to bring the physical posting for the job permit for the county, that was #1 of 10 or so discrepancies given by the county inspector for follow up and close out, the inspector wants to see the permit. I accept that I need to fill out the tax form but Smart72 needs to provide an official document describing the system as a solar based installation, they have not. Thus far they've left me with only a description of an air source heat pump which does not qualify. Smarat72 wants to come on site, no problem but they have said and I expect that they will arrange Lennox factory rep to come on site and review the installation. The component heat pump XP16 was not per the original contract. I want it replaced with the XP25 matching unit to the indoor system. I will pay the difference in price as they previously adjusted back to me.Smart72 misrepresented that the XP25 would not work with the Suntrac. Clearly this was false, the Suntrac site has always claimed to work with all single, 2 stage and variable speed compressor heat pumps. This was Smart72 flying by the seat of their pants on an installing components. They did not check with me when they changed to other components then basically forced me to accept what they had already installed. I have a funeral to attend today, Monday March 12. I will contact Smart72 tomorrow, assuming they accept what I've stated here. Respectfully[redacted] W[redacted]

Mrs. B[redacted],My name is J[redacted] and I am the owner of smart72. I am a local resident raising a family of three children under 5. We live and play here on the central coast and respect the clients we serve.  I read this and feel sick to my stomach. We have worked very hard to help keep our...

clients safe. I host a class every year, called Heat Exchanger Experts. We invite local contractors, gas company officials and local inspectors to join us. It cost thousands of dollars to do so, but the fact is I need to teach my employees how to keep my clients safe. I researched my files and found no one from JR Barto has ever attended the class in the last 6 consecutive years.I am concerned that their assessment is not in your best interest. Whether we were to replace your system, or someone else did, my main concern is that you are safe. Please allow me the opportunity to return to your home with a check for $72.00. I would gladly meet with my operations manager and the technician from the other company to review my technicians findings. This is so important to our company that I created a guarantee which states, “We believe strongly in our findings and stand behind our recommendations, so if our findings are incorrect or we cannot show you exactly what we found, we will replace your system free of charge.”Please allow me the opportunity to restore your trust. I will work around your schedule.Sincerely,J[redacted]

Thank you for contacting us regarding this matter. We will work with the customer to resolve any and all issues. Customer is responsible for contacting the city to finalize permit. All equipment contracted was installed and paid for. If any permit extension or permit fees need to be covered, we will...

do that, as it is our responsibility. In regards to a free upgrade of equipment, we would have to evaluate the system onsite with a Lennox representative at Lennox’s earliest convenience. We will contact you with updates as soon as we speak to Mr. W[redacted].

Thank you for bringing this complaint to our attention. We are looking into it, and will get back to you asap.

Complaint: 12654730
I am rejecting this response because:Thank you for contacting the business, Smart72 on my behalf.I do not agree fully with their response, but I have had a voicemail left by them to assist in resolving or as they put it ‘getting things back on track”. I would like to document further the complaint and would appreciate the Revdex.com assisting or at least documenting/publishing the facts from my side of things.I believe the response from Smart72 steps to the main issues.I am not asking for ‘free’ upgrades.I agree I have paid for the system, but I was sold a non-workable system.Smart72 poorly handled the sale and engineering of the system components. Their unfamiliarity with the system sold led to a lot of changes in the field and misunderstanding that could have greatly reduced Smart72’s labor costs as well as a now broken system and unhappy customer. In the end, I did not get what I was sold. I overpaid by +$10,000 – 15,000, since I received as yet no tax credits and otherwise probably did not need the solar unit that seems the basis for a lot of the system failures, installation re-works and substitution of a main system component for a lower end supposedly ‘compatible’ or more likely cheaper unit that was intended to increase the profit on the sale. To summarize what the issues are:1.       The system has failed completely, Smart72 knows this. One year has passed since it failed to work.2.       Smart72 sold a system with an add-on 3rd party solar component incompatible to the original sales order specified Lennox main components (matching Signature Ultimate Comfort, iComfort, iHarmony indoor air handler and outdoor variable speed iComfort smart heat pump.)3.       During the field installation process without discussing, explaining or asking my permission. It appears the field install team was unaware of the details of the original order and was being fed a parts list from the office team. Numerous times during a several weeks long install process over a 2- month period, the install team found discrepancies in what was supposed to be on the order and as a result installed, then removed, then re-installed various components in an attempt to match what was originally ordered and what would actually work with the main Lennox Signature ‘smart’ indoor air handler. In the end, I got an outdoor unit that was a 2-stage ‘dumb’ unit instead of the ‘smart’ iComfort controller board unit that was specified in the original sales order.4.       A tax credit of +$10,000 or about 30% of the overall price of the system was to help pay for the system. Smart72 provided no documentation, no parts list, no system description that would allow submitting IRS claim for such tax credit. In fact, the final description Smart72 provided to the HERO financing that is the only documentation usable for submitting such a claim describes the system as an ‘air source heat pump’.5.       Smart72 falsely represented that the Suntrac solar component could not be made to work with a variable speed compressor heat pump. This claim made by the Smart72 manager was made in response to my insistence that Smart72 had installed the wrong heat pump unit, a Lennox Elite XP16 not the Lennox Signature XP25 unit that was to match the indoor Signature air handler unit. Subsequent to forcing me to accept the XP16 under threat of no support and no warranty if the XP25 was installed, I then found that Suntrac solar units do work with single, multi-stage and variable speed compressor heat pumps. Smart72 basically lied to me to get me to accept what they’d installed. I had to point out that at least I was owed the difference in price, they claimed that it was $2000 and adjusted the price by that amount.6.       Smart72 made the guinea pig for a system of components that their team had never installed before. I am con[redacted]d that at least part of the problem with continued system failures is related to the mismatch of system components, configuration, and non-optimization that was driven by trying to upsell the Suntrac solar unit. My feeling at this point is that Lennox factory experts need to be onsite and review that the components there were installed can be made to work at all. More than that I want the more energy efficient matching Signature XP25 heat pump installed in place of the XP16. power draw on the XP16 is considerable a by far outweighs any possible power savings by the solar unit. The system is 90% dedicated to heating not cooling. Most of the heating that occurs is at night when solar is NOT a benefit. The power draws from cycling starting is at 60+ amps (XP16) versus about 20 amps (XP25). I have a whole house generator that cannot carry the load of the installed XP16. The cycling of the XP16 is excessive when it gets cold, this appears to be related to the ‘smart’ cycling capability of the Lennox Signature iComfort air handling that WOULD match similar capabilities in the Lennox XP25 ‘smart’ heat pump but is not possible with the XP16. The final failure of the unit a year ago was proceeding by several cold nights where the outdoor XP16 banged on and off all night long while mostly throwing out cold air. To re-confirm what I see as a reasonable outcome for both parties: A system replacement, upgrade of the outdoor heat pump to match the indoor air handler:Ø  Install Lennox Signature XP25 heat pump (remove the existing XP16).o   Properly configure and optimize the overall system components and air balance, as needed bring Lennox factory/field on-site to assist, verify proper installation.o   In regards to the ‘upgrade’, I am happy to pay the $2000 delta for the XP25 unit, the same amount that Smart72 originally forced me to accept as a downgrade to a ‘compatible’ XP16 unit (that was a false representation of facts. Lennox not partner with Suntrac, Lennox does not state compatibility / non-compatibility with Suntrac or other 3rd party non-partner add-on components. Suntrac DOES claim compatibility with all heat pump compressor types including variable speed. Ø  Make the 3rd party Suntrac solar unit work with Lennox system, including XP25 component. If not possible or incompatible, then remove and refund full credit.Ø  Assist customer with documentation to obtain tax credits, Smart72 stated on an original contract estimated credit at $12,200. I don’t expect it might be the full amount but there is so far no possibility of collecting any credit given that Smart72 and HERO financing documents describe the installed system not as a solar-based heating but as an ‘air source heat pump’

Mr. W[redacted], We are happy to send an install superintendent and install manager out to your home early next week based on your availability.Re: Your federal tax credit, that is something that you file for with your regular taxes. We can provide you another copy of the federal form however you have to give it to your tax preparer. The federal tax credit is good for 3 years since the install so you are still eligible for the federal credit. In order to start the process we’ll need an install team member on site. We appreciate your time and look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience.  Thank you.
