Tonight my dryer spit blue and red flames. A fire seemed like it was starting, I ran to the kitchen to get the fire extinguisher. I called the [redacted] office for maintenance one month ago -telling them that this dryer stopped working and I thought the switch was broken. I told the girl in the front office that I got the dryer working but that the switch was pulled out of the front panel and had exposed wires - which didn't seem right. She said someone would be over to my place the next day. Nobody ever showed up. It has been a month and nobody has addressed this issue. My dishwasher also takes 2 hours to wash and has no dry cycle and water does not get hot inside. The clothes washer seemed to be leaking - but now I think it's just oil on the ground. ? It vibrates horribly. The master bedroom window screen popped out. It seems warped and has not been flush with the window at all. I can't open the window due to a large amount of bugs outside and no screen. The place was not properly cleaned when I moved in. The shower had mildew. There were dead bugs all over the carpets. The kitchen cupboards had an oily yellow grease build up under each cabinet and drawer. The stove emitted a terrible chemical smell when I first turned it on, to the point I had to open all doors and windows for hours. I am asthmatic and this apartment gets inundated usually on the weekends and some afternoons with heavy cigarette smoke. It seeps out of each heating register and through the water heater closet. We get a large amount of spiders - mainly wolf spiders and notice a great deal of baby spiders. The lady named [redacted] in the front office came in to my place tonight and was unprofessional and rude. I asked her to leave. I live next to the front office. Confused why nobody has addressed any issues to the point of a near fire.Desired SettlementFix the dryer or replace it. Address other issues - the smoke being a big concern. If these cannot be remedied in 14 days time then I want to be let go from the lease and my security deposit refunded so that I may move elsewhere. I feel this apartment is hazardous and property management is unresponsive and unprofessional, perhaps incapable. Final Consumer Response After I escalated the issue as described in my complaint - I was contacted by the corporate office to Alliance Residential and also the corporate manager or representative showed up to my apartment. They mentioned several problems in the chain of command and claimed they never got my original complaint. They explained how best to get issues resolved next time. Also the primary maintenance person talked with me and heavily apologized. I feel satisfied with the response from yesterday, however I plan on moving once my lease is up due to heavy cigarette smoke coming into our unit from other units, as I am asthmatic. Alliance recognizes the smoke issue and cannot do anything about it because these units are not "smoke free", and they are older which allows odors and smells to pass through the ventilation system. The dryer that caught fire was replaced yesterday and other issues were addressed as well.Thank you for the prompt response. I am no longer interested in perusing my original complaint.
