Alliance Roofing Company Reviews (3)

Review: In September 1999, Alliance roofing installed a new roof on my home in Brookfield. I have a signed proposal from the company where it states they are warranting workmanship for 5 years and materials (shingles) for 25. Several years ago I noticed some shingles were starting to look worn. Since my first observation, more shingles started looking worn, cracked and curled. I notice asphalt in my gutters when I would clean them. I also noticed damage to my bathroom, bedroom and living room ceilings. Being a first time home owner I didn't know what to do. Late 2012 a neighbor said I needed a new roof. I said how is that possible since I bought a roof with a 25 year warranty and it's only been a little over 12 years. As the roof became worse in the spring of 2013 I decided to call Alliance Roofing. They told me the shingles from Certainteed they installed were defective and that I could complete paperwork to try to get some many back from Certainteed. In July 2013 I completed the requirements from Certainteed and several months later I did receive some money from Certainteed but it was about 16% of the total cost of the roof. I've called Alliance several times asking why they aren't responsible since I have a signed document from them saying the shingles are warranted for 25 years. On the signed document they state they have quality workmanship and quality materials but now I'm left to get a new roof before anymore damage is done to the inside of my home. My last call to them was last week. They still claim no responsibility for the faulty shingles they installed. I asked them why they didn't let me know they had installed the faulty shingles because I could have received more money from Certainteed if I would have submitted my documents when I first noticed a problem. Their response was they started sending out letters but Certainteed found out and threatened to sue. I said you owed an obligation to your customers and that they should not have sided with the company who manufactured the shingles. It is now 15 years since my roof was installed. I have received 6 bids and 5/6 are double the cost of what I paid 15 years ago. It is wrong to sell me and explain to me that by buying a new roof I won't have to worry about replacing it for 25 years. I'm now in a position where the roof needs to be replaced and I need repairs completed in the interior of my home and Alliance Roofing's position is they aren't responsible. I have a signed document saying they are warranting the shingles for 25 years and they still say they are not responsible.

have called Alliance several timesDesired Settlement: I want Alliance Roofing to be held responsible for the 25 year product they sold me that is defective. I want them to take responsibility for the signed document I have that states my shingles are warranted for 25 years. I bought a roof that I was told would last 25 years and it hasn't. I bought my roof from Alliance Roofing not Certainteed. Businesses need to be held accountable for what they sell consumers; what they tell consumers otherwise don't state products are warrantied for 25 years because that's why I bought from Alliance. I bought thinking I would never have to incur another large expense like a new roof while I owned my home.

Response:

Ms. [redacted]’s stated problems with her CERTAINTEED™ brand organicshingles which are the same as problems that millions of consumers nationwidehave experienced. Specifically, shingles have severe curling and cupping, theloss of granules filling the gutters thus leaving large bare spots and holesgoing completely through the shingles and allowing subsequent waterinfiltration. Shingles manufactured byCERTAINTEED™; up until 2005, were found years after they were sold, to haveserious shingle deterioration and material failures. CERTAINTEED™ was foundresponsible in US District Court of selling defective shingles and CERTAINTEED™was required to compensate consumers under the terms of the Class Action SuitSettlement.CERTAINTEED™ material defect claims were litigatedlocally and nationally for a number of years. Local Milwaukee TV stations rannumerous stories on the CERTAINTEED™ material shingle defects. There were somany customers with the same exact claims as Ms. [redacted] that ultimatelyCERTAINTEED™ was named in a Class Action Suit and litigated in the DistrictCourts of the United States. The Class Action Suit substantiated the fact thatCERTAINTEED™ had manufactured and sold shingles that prematurely deteriorated. CERTAINTEED™had provided a 25 year material warranty under the terms of CERTAINTEED™manufacturer’s warranty specifically for the Sealdon 25 organic shingles whichMs. [redacted] chose. The CERTAINTEED™ Shingle Settlement website states:“The Settlement provides cash payments to qualifying peoplein the United States and Canada to provide compensation in instances where theOrganic Shingles show premature deterioration that is likely caused by a productdefect. The Court in charge of this case approved the Settlement on September1, 2010. The Settlement Agreement became effective on October 2, 2010, andCertainTeed has begun processing and paying claims.”Theamount paid to the consumers was pre-determined by the District Court. For all of the millions of consumersaffected, the District Court determined that CERTAINTEED™ manufacturedthe shingles and CERTAINTEED™was culpable not the millions ofcontractors that installed these shingles. The 25 year material warranty wasthe responsibility of CERTAINTEED™ and not the contractor. Alliance did not manufacture theshingles, and therefore is not liable.AsMs. [redacted] states, Alliance Roofing provided her a workmanship warranty offive years which we honored. During the first five years after the installationof her roof, Ms [redacted] made neither claims nor calls to Alliance Roofing forworkmanship issues or any other issues. In fact, it wasn’t until July 2013 thatMs. [redacted] first called Alliance with her concerns about the condition ofthe shingles. Alliance immediately assisted Ms. [redacted] in the processing ofher CERTAINTEED™ claim andher subsequent receipt of her refund check. During this entire process she wasquite satisfied and amicable with Alliance. It wasn’t until August 2014 when Ms.[redacted] became dissatisfied with the payout from CERTAINTEED™ that she became irate with AllianceRoofing and filed this Revdex.com claim. The District Courts ruled that the payoutswere predetermined under the terms of the Class Action Suit Settlement. Asthe District Court ruled, CERTAINTEED™ was responsible for the unforeseen shingle failure andheld CERTAINTEED responsible to pay Ms. [redacted]; the District Courts held nocontractor, including Alliance Roofing Company, responsible for the prematureshingle failures.

Review: I had a new roof installed, last year, with a complete tear off of the old. As the workers slid off the old from the roof they were damaging my gutter seams. I had major leak problems at all the seams over last winter. I started calling around Febuary 2013 about the problem and they told me they could not do anything until spring. I called back in March, April, May, June, July, August and September. They finally came out for about 5 min. I called back they still leak and they told me it was not there problem they did not slide the old roof off to damage the gutters. Lie, they got tar all over my brick, broke off my front bushes from sliding the roof off the roof over the gutters. I had never had any leaks at all until after the new roof was installed. It was not noticed until it was cold and large Icecicales were hanging over the sidewalk and when the snow started to melt a steady flow of water getting into my basement. I had to go out and bought deflectors to keep the water away from the foundation.Desired Settlement: All I want them to do is repair all the seams that I dont have large Icecicles hanging down over sidewalks and water getting into my baseme

Our understanding was that this was a perennial problem with the customer's gutter

seams prior to the roof installation. He did indeed receive a tearoff and roof install by

Alliance Roofing in Apri12012 but we did not install his gutters. He has a hip roof and

very minor debris was removed from the comers (outside miters) of the roof His gutter

system is made up out of long seamless sections and four seamed sections on the

comers. If water is to leak it would be through the seams at the comers of his building.

He has mitered gutters which notoriously leak. We did not manipulate these comers in

anyway as out ladder was put solely in the mid section of one of the long lengths of

gutter. Fifteen months after the roof installation we received the first call regarding a

gutter seams leaking. During the five trips we have made to inspect his gutters it was our

observation that this was an older gutter installation and that the freeze/thaw of large

icicles and ice dams have taken their toll on these gutter miters. A phone call to the gutter

installers to apply some gutter mastic may be in order here.

Response:

The roofers slid the old roofing over the gutters, Alliance stated they dont do that. On my bricks there is black marks where the rooing hit the side of house. When the carried up the new shingles to the roof their latters were about a foot away from the seams. I never had any leaks or icesicles at the seams before the new roof was installed. I did not notice the leaking during normal rain, but when it got cold and snowed the melting snow the leaks were present at the seams as large icesicles formed and during the daylight with the sun melting the snow on the roof I had major leaks that got into my basement. I had to put up a deversion that the water ran away from the building. Like I said I never had leaks before. They also said they dont slide the old roofing off the side, well they broke my bushes in front and my clamadises in back that are right below the guttes, edge of roof. This was documented when I paid. I told them that I the bushes dont grow back or fill out they need to be replaced. So in order for this to happn the roofing was slide of the roof over the gutters, broke the seams.

Response:

We stand behind our original response. The seams are only on the outside miters, a foot

away from the comers of the house. There essentially is no roofing to be tom off in this

area and no ladder to be placed here. Outside miters are a common place on all house for

icicles to form whether the gutter leaks in this area or not. His first call was fifteen

months after the roof install. Once again during the five trips we have made to inspect his

gutters (as a courtesy), it was our observation that this was an older gutter installation that

just needs gutter mastic to be applied by a gutter installer at a minor cost.

Response:

I was referred to the company, and [redacted] in particular, by a good friend and neighbor in [redacted] whose roof they had done to his full satisfaction couple years ago. I was advised by my friend to specifically ask for [redacted]. And I did. I scheduled an appointment with [redacted] for October 2, and when he arrived I explained, that I would need two things - Roof Condition Report (requested by the ins. company) and roof estimate (since it was obvious to me that the roof does not have many years left). [redacted] promised to have both tasks completed within a few days. Today, November 4 2014, I am still waiting for both. I placed numerous calls, and finally was told that they don't provide condition report for the roofs installed by others...., but was assured that the estimate is coming…..I guess, the postal service between Brookfield and Mequon is notoriously bad.
Why did it take 2+ weeks to come up with an excuse about the condition report, especially since I explained, that it was requested by the insurance company and there is a deadline? It would be a good business practice to honor the promise, even if you do not really provide this type of service.
I am very disappointed in the level of service I encountered, and will spread the word accordingly.
