Revdex.com: I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted] , and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because: The claims made by Maritza from American Storage are and INACCURATE.Again, at NO TIME did Maritza state to me that we are NOT allowed to cut our own locks The only thing she did say was that they charge a $fee to cut the lock At NO TIME did she explain any policy to me At NO TIME did I ask her if I could cut my own lock That is the ONLY reason, I can back with my own lock cutter and cut my own Had she explained this from the very beginning, this whole situation would have NEVER transpired I also have witnesses to verify my claims Maritza is backpedaling to cover herself and her error and I will continue to dispute hers and their claims as this is and inaccurate Particularly in reference to the answer she had given stating that she told me NOT TO come there with a bolt cutter and then considered me a threat Had she seen me walk in with the cutters as she claims she did, she had plenty of time to approach me and tell me I was not allowed to do this and rectify that situation right then and there She also had plenty of time to approach me as we were cleaning out our unit before the situation escalated and she did not She took matters into her own hands I'm a mother of two and a professional, not a criminal and no threat to anyone I'm outraged and offended that the matter even got this far and the way it has been handled has been completely unprofessional I deserve an apology and I want them to credit my account for the $they are trying to steal from me for garbage disposal I will continue to dispute this until this is rectified In order for the Revdex.com to appropriately process your response, you MUST answer the question above Sincerely, [redacted]

In response to Maritza's claims, I am going to have to disagree and dispute her recollection and story of how the whole situation happenedShe has fabricated lies to cover herself and she has stretched the truth. I have witnesses there to document my claims. In full detail, this is the happening of events July ***. On July *** I went to American Storage with my sister and my nephew to inquire as to whether or not I was confirmed for a smaller storage unit and to look at the unit which was available to make sure it would fit out things. I had requested a smaller unit from the time I booked with them due to the fact that I had twins and am on a budgetThey had nothing available at the time so I went with a larger unit for the time being. I was storing some personal belongings there, along with things that belong to my sister and my nephews. They NEVER called me with any openings available although I was on a list and my account had been noted that I requested a smaller unit. With that, I had to call them and went there on a several occasions to get this sorted out A few days before we had gone there, I had called them to see if something opened and they told me they finally had an opening for a smaller unit On July *** I went there to see if the unit would be sufficient and if it was, we planned to move our things that day In the meantime, I misplaced my key I asked Maritza at the front desk about what happens if you lose your key and she said that they would have to charge you a $fee to cut your lock I said ok, I will let them know. At no time did I ask her if I could cut my own lock and at no time did she tell me that I could NOT. At no time did she ask me for any type of ID or to present two forms of ID...I didn't even have my wallet on me and had she asked me to present ID, I would've had to run out to the car and get it. Her claim is stating that I had not provided any form of ID...I never provided it because she never asked me for it and I did not ask them to cut the lock...I told them I would try to find my key first and would let them know. Again, I reiterate, at no time did she once state that we could NOT cut our own lock I never asked her if we couldI told her that I would go home and look for my key first to see if maybe I could find it. We left and went home and searched for the key and could not locate itWe had a lock cutter home so with that, I went back to my unitWhen you enter the building, there is no reason to pass by the main deskYou enter through stairs on the dock outsideYou do NOT SNEAK into the building. We entered the building and went directly to our unit I then cut my lock. I'm not sure why she would think we were a threat and would starting cutting other tenants locks, we are not thieves. We are honest, working professional people. I was there for many hours sorting through my thingsThe unit was on the main level so we were walking around, we got a few dollys and brought them over by the unit and continued sorting through our things. At no time did any of the American Storage personnel approach me and tell me I was in violation or that did something wrong and that I could not cut my own lockThey had many hours to rectify this situation and handle it in a different manner. Only when we were finished moving our things and we were getting ready to check out and go to the front desk was I then confronted by the policeThey took me off guard because we had no idea what this was in reference toThe officers proceeded to tell me that the owner wants me to vacate the premises because I cut my lock and I am in violationI spoke to them and they said this is a warning and then leftWe then went to the front desk to speak to MaritzaShe made us of stand there waiting for a very long time while she took care of other customersWhen she finally finished and addressed us, I started asking her questions as to where it is stated and where is it written and where in the policy does it state that we cannot cut our own locksI said I want a copy of the documentation that to back up her claims...I asked where in the documentation does it state with a situation like this, where does it specifically indicate that you are to call the policeIt is my right as a tenant that I be informed in writing or shown documentation to support her claims It is my right as a tenant to have fair warning and be treated with dignity and respect. She told us that she spoke to her manager and he said to have me removed and call the policeI again, asked for a copy of this policy and with that she told me to leave NOW She said I'm going to have to ask you to leave NOW or I will call the police. She said it or times and that she would call the police on meShe got hostile because I requested documentationShe threatened me and made me fearful to even be there. At no time did I get hostile or angry with her---she didn't even give me the opportunity to discuss this matter with her. She just threatened me and told me to leave, all that I was requesting was proof and evidenceShe was getting upset because I asked for these docs and she could not provide itWith that I left the buildingShe would not speak to me or answer my questionsI have witnesses there to verify my statementsMy sister and my nephew were with me I had a dolly with a few items to be discarded and had to leave them behind because she threatened me by calling the police if I didn't leave and leave nowAfter I left she gave my sister a copy of the contract which I did not review or initial My signature is nowhere on this contract and I had never reviewed it until I got home In looking over the contract, nowhere in this contract does it state her claims about the fact we cannot cut our locksOnly that if we need it cut they charge a $fee and require forms of ID Nowhere does it state they will terminate the contract and call the authoritiesNowhere in the contract do I see anything written about them disposing trash and charging $except in Rule #where it says a clearning fee will be imposed if tenant leaves items or garbage on premises There is no amount indicated and there is nothing stating that if they threaten you by calling the police and you have to leave immediately that they will charge you a fee This is a Catch 22, I feel Particularly, when Maritza would not even address me or answer my questions and forced me to leave IMMEDIATELY or face the authorities These are rules created at their own discretion After reading this, I called American StorageShe claims that I called back to complain--this is and inaccurate. I never once complained. What I did do, was ask Maritza to please forward me the documentation to my fax number so that I can review it and show it to my attorneyMaritza took my fax number and said she would send it, but I have yet to receive anything in writing She then said to me, since you left trash here, we are charging you $ I told her she is not authorized to charge my card since she had me removed from the property and could not properly dispose of my items How was I to remove my items and dispose of them when she threated me and made me leave claiming she would call the police. She treated me with no respect and as if I were a common criminal but they are the ones who are stealing from me and trying to charge my credit card inappropriately and without authorization Had she approached me earlier when she said she claims we snuck in, she could've avoided this whole situation. She had many hours to rectify the situation and she did notInstead, they took the matter into their own hands and called the police and took this matter to the extremeAll that I wanted to do was move my personal belongings to a smaller unitI have yet to receive any proof of these charges and claims. This is an unfortunate situation brought upon by American Storage themselvesI have been in customer relations, have worked for high ranking individuals and am a professional and I have never in my life been treated this way and have had so many claims and accusations fabricated in an effort to cover her own negligenceI also put a call in American Storage headquarters with no response from any member of managementI am attaching the documentation for your review and responseThank you for your time in this matter.

This is in response to [redacted]'s complaint from August *, 2016 to the Revdex.com regarding an incident that occurred on July [redacted] 2016 in American Self Storage's Staten Island Facility. The tenant came into our office stating that she misplaced her key and wanted her lock cut, I explained there...

is a $25.00 cut lock fee. Prior to the service of cutting the lock the tenant must present two forms of identification as stated in the lease agreement that [redacted] signed. The tenant asked if she can cut her own lock I told her no, only American Self Storage employees are allowed to cut locks which is also stated in the American Self Storage Rules And Regulations. It is stated in the Rules And Regulations "Only American Self-Storage staff is permitted to cut locks in the facility and a charge of $25.00 will be imposed for the service of cutting locks. On top of that two forms of identification are necessary before com pleting the cut-lock service. [redacted] was given a copy of these Rules And Regulations when she moved in. She had not provided any form of I.D and she violated the terms of her lease by cutting her own lock and not paying our $25.00 cut lock fee which can result in termination of her lease.The same day the Tenant left our facility upset and came back with her own cutters. It was unknown that she came with her own cutters because she did not walk through our main office entrance with them. If she had I would have immediately told her it was against company policy. When I found out that she had cut her own lock I called my Manager and he told me to call the police because it was unbeknownst to us whether the tenant was just cutting her lock or cutting other tenants locks. A tenant bringing there own cutters in is against company policy and to protect over 2,000 tenants and ourselves from any liability the police had to be called.When the police arrived they assessed the situation and stated she can be removed from the premises but her personal belongings will be allowed to stay in our facility for 30 days. [redacted] stood at the front desk for approximately thirty minutes where I explained again the American Self Storage policy in reference to a tenants lock being cut. I calmly told her she has 30 days to remove her belongings and she needed to vacate the premises immediately. She did not and I had to tell her again to vacate the premises. She became hostile and continued to express how she felt about "our policy" and eventually left.Upon leaving the tenant left a cart full of garbage on our loading dock. In the lease she signed it states we charge for garbage disposal. The tenant had more than enough time to remove her garbage off the loading dock before leaving. She called back to complain about the situation and in that same conversation I brought up the garbage left on the loading dock. She denied that it was hers until I told her we have her on surveillance camera. She then admitted that the garbage was hers. I explained our garbage disposal policy and she stated that she would dispute charges. The amount she is disputing of $231.00, only $100.00 from the garbage disposal has been charged to her card and is a legitimate charge. The amount of $131.00 is her rent which has not been charged to her account or her card but will be due August [redacted] 2016. Tenant is currently on auto pay, which charges her card every month for any charges due by tenant. She has yet to ask to be taken off auto pay.Our policy at American Self Storage is to protect all of our customers belongings. Each and every tenant at American Self Storage has a protection policy starting at $1,000 worth of coverage for fire, theft and water.
