Review: August 7, 2014 I paid $1,244.16 for a [redacted], the smallest kiln in the catalog, from Alpha Fired Arts, a subsidiary of [redacted].
The Kiln was delivered and assembled for me August 25, 2014.
An Electrician, [redacted], License [redacted], gave me a free estimate. It was determined that my apartment did not have the proper electrical source for Kiln.
I called [redacted] and talked to [redacted], the president and sales person who sold me the Kiln. I said I can’t use it and I would like to return it. Mr. [redacted] immediately phoned my electrican.
I was told that
Since the Kiln was specially ordered from the manufacturers ware house, I would be response for the cost of:
1) $75 (estimate) for the restocking price. It could be damaged in route.
The Manufacture is [redacted]., [redacted] 2) I also must pay the freight at $161.241
3) I am also to pay Alpha Ceramics, Sacramento for handling at $115.20.
The first and only time I have purchased a Potter’s Kiln was 35 years ago by the salesman, [redacted], at “[redacted] and [redacted], December 22, 1979.Desired Settlement: I believe that Mr. [redacted] should have given me more
information about electrical sources at the time of purchase. And I don’t
believe I should pay the cost to have it returned to the manufacturer.
There was no return policy on the present day invoice,
Unlike the original receipt in 1979.
Please help me resolve this situation. It would be greatly
apprecaiated.

Response:
[redacted] requested quote for a small kiln for her apartment. She received a quote and sales brochure with all kiln sizes and electrical requirements. She decided on the model for her apartment. [redacted] also understood it was a non-stocking kiln that had to be ordered and must be prepaid. She prepaid for the kiln and it was delivered and set up in her second story apartment, local delivery included. After she received the kiln she called an electrician because it wouldn't plug into her electrical outlets, 120V 20Amp. I asked to speak to her electrician to see if she had a circuit that would work? After talking to the electrician, there were a few electrical possibilities but the costs exceeded Ms. [redacted]’s budget. I feel that Alpha fulfilled its obligation to deliver and set up the kiln. The electrical requirements are part of the buyer’s responsibilities. Because this is a non-stocking model it must be returned to Skutt in Portland, Oregon and the return freight cost and fees are unavoidable. Alpha will be willing to eliminate Alpha’s $115.20 fee and settle the customer’s request after the kiln has been returned to [redacted] in Portland Oregon. A credit will be issued to Ms. [redacted] after the kiln is inspected. If there is any damage in handling or transit, those costs will be determined by [redacted] and an adjustment will be made towards the final credit.
