The owner is a lair and wouldn't reamend this gym to anyone that's looking to join a gym... I was a member there for more than 10 years before terminating my member ship with alpha fitness and was lied to after following the proper besiegers for dropping my member ship.. I went and spoke with the owner while he was open for business during the covid 19 Mandaite for all yms to be closed about freezing my member ship until future notice since he was still withdrawing money out of my account during this time. He agreed to freeze it until for one month and during that time I also spoke with him about what was required to drop the membership if I so desired too.. During that period of time I decided to drop my member ship and gave him my 30 day notice which he did agree to and did accept that as my notice.. After going back several times after my 30 days trying to drop my member ship he kept asking me to come back because he was making up excuses on why he couldn't do it that day . Finally I was told all I needed to do was come in before the end of June and sign a sheet of paper for my termination because my dues for June will come be withdrawn from my account and that would cover my termination fee.. I did as he ask me to and came in to sign my paper work and was still charged another cancellation fee after he previously told me what u see above.. When I went to talk with him about what he previously said and why I was being charged a cancelation fee He was rued and told me he wouldn't talk to me about it and I need to go back to the pro shop... I'm glad to be finished with that place.. I SUGGEST YOU LOOK AT THE OTHER NEGATIVE REVIEWS LEFT HERE AND ALSO THE NOT SO GOOD RATINGS AT THE Revdex.com BEFORE CONSIDERING JOINING THIS GYM.. ID BE VERY SURPRISED IF THIS GYM LASTS MUCH LONGER WITH THE ATTITUDE THE NEW OWNER HAS. "PLEASE" BEWARE AWARE BEFORE U TO JOIN OR TERMINATE OR MEMBERSHIP..

Cancelled gym membership over 3 months ago and company is still trying to withdraw monthly membership fees from my bank account
We joined this gym years ago and continued to stay a member through owner changes as well as name change. Originally The Body Shop when we joined and latest name is Alpha Fitness. We were visiting the location nearest our home off Airport Road in Fletcher, NC about 2-3 times a week. Back in Nov 2019, we went to go workout and a sign was placed on door of gym that this location was closed, a no trespassing sign on door as well. We never got a full explanation of why this occurred or notification as to why location closed. After several calls to *** location, we were told that they were relocating to another location off Airport road that would be open soon and we could place a "freeze" on our membership until new location opened. Each time we called for updates, there was always a reason or excuse as to why the new location was not open...waiting on permits, painting etc. We finally joined another gym, Planet Fitness that opened a few miles from our house. I went to Alpha Fitness in *** to cancel membership in late Jan 2020 for both myself and my husband. It was difficult to get the membership cancelled because they kept saying the new location was opening and just keep the account "frozen" a bit longer. I finally demanded that my membership be cancelled and signed papers and they made my husband come in later that same day and sign papers as well. They stated they would take one months membership fees out as part of cancellation fee. So I watched my bank statement and nothing was withdrawn for 2 months. All of a sudden in April, the $55 membership fee was taken out. I thought that was strange to wait 2 months to make that transaction but let it go. Then my next bank statement came and another month's membership fee was withdrawn. So at that point, I called the bank and placed a stop payment on the Alpha Fitness so no more funds could be withdrawn. I contacted Alpha Fitness and have yet to be able to speak with owner but the girl I spoke with states that the accounts were still active and that she would cancel them. That was a month ago. Now I am getting emails from ASF payment solutions that state they are unable to withdraw my membership fees from my bank account. I contacted Alpha Fitness again today and spoke with same girl that I talked to a month ago. I was informed that my membership was not cancelled and I needed to speak with owner. I have left several messages with owner and no return calls as of yet. We have spoken with several other people that belonged to Alpha Fitness that have also had issues with trying to cancel membership or them continuing to withdraw funds after memberships were cancelled. It's horrible and it borders on theft and harrassment.

Desired Outcome

I just want my membership cancelled and no further attempts to withdraw money. I have taken care of the latter and I had to pay a bank fee of $35 for the stop payment. Just want membership cancelled and no further contact with this buisness

The member stopped by the facility on 2/26/2020 to terminate the agreement. The protocol to terminate the agreement was presented by staff to the member which is attached. The member declined to pay the 30 day notice per the agreement. Staff notified the member the account would not be cancelled per the agreement guidelines. Both members declined to pay the thirty day notice and the membership was left in frozen status. It was explained to the members the account was froze, once the freeze was over the account would become active again. This has been explained to the members on multiple occasions, noted on the account they refuse to pay the thirty day notice per the agreement. The account is not based on visits, no different if you buy a car, the mileage and usage is on the purchaser to use or drive. Stopping payment on an agreement does not stop the agreement, it just sets it up for collections per the agreement. This conversation would be mute if the member followed the agreement guidelines to terminate an agreement. To cancel an agreement the member must be in good standing. The account was froze, which is why the member needed to pay the thirty day notice fee at time of termination. The member declined, the account became active after the freeze was up and the payments drafted accordingly to the agreement. We are more than happy to terminate the agreement, however, the member does have to follow protocol per the agreement.

The first contact I had with owner was yesterday after this complaint was filed. Each and every time I contacted business,I was told owner was not available and to call back at a certain time. I left my name and number with staff and no effort was made to call me back. After the closure of the airport Rd location with no notice to me or the numerous other members, we were all left in a lurch and no effort made as to why location closed. The only option was hendersonville location which is almost an hour away. We were very upset after getting the run around about wanting to terminate contract and said we shouldn't have to pay to terminate since the abrupt closing of the airport Rd location. I told the staff member that day to do whatever she needed to do to cancel membership and we wanted nothing more do do with this business. 2 montns membership have been taken out, put that towards termination fee and let's be done with it.

Staff was and is available to help the members. The members declined to follow the agreement protocol in which they signed. Talking with the owner will not change the position of the agreement. Unfortunately the building location was sold, the new owners declined to honor the lease and evicted the tenants. The members had just as much notice as the business. We did the best we could with the situation. We found a new location, had to file permits, which are sent to Raleigh for review, approval. The Covid-19 situation was upon us, we did not receive approval on the permits due to circumstances outside of our control. We allowed members access to the Hendersonville location which is within eight miles of the prior location and within North Carolina statue. We do not force members to freeze their accounts, it is an option in which the members choose. Staff explained the situation, however it was the answers they were not willing to hear. We cannot just unfreeze an account without permission from the member, the member did not grant permission. Staff noted the account, documented the notes the member was condescending and bullied due to the member not getting their way. I reviewed the notes, reviewed the video feed and confirmed staff handled the situation accordingly while the members behavior was deemed troubling. It is very unfortunate in today's society that certain individuals find the need to enter an agreement and not honor the agreement they signed. This protocol is and will be no different with the gym in which they attend, there is a process to follow to terminate agreements. In this situation and due to the behavior of the members, the agreement protocol will be followed which is the thirty day notice and the fee's paid accordingly. I will credit the account the month the facility was closed, apply the notice from that date and close the account.

As long as account is closed and terminated and we do not have to deal with this business again, we will be extremely happy and that's all we wanted in the first place.

Alpha Fitness withdrew money without authorization from my checking account. They will not allow me to cancel my membership.
I was a previous member of *** for several years, now known as Alpha Fitness. I had no problems with ***, but then new ownership took over, Kerry B. After my 19 year old daughter returned from college in November of 2019, I signed her up in early December 2019 for a membership. I used my credit card and the payments were to be charged to my credit card account. There was no contract. I just signed an ordinary credit card receipt. Then, my son came home from the Air Force Academy for Christmas so he signed up for his 2 week break. Literally, the day after he signed up, Alpha Fitness closed their doors permanently in their *** location with NO notice to its members. This business was shut down my the Henderson County Sheriff's Department. Due to the longer drive time to their Hendersonville, NC location, my son only went occasionally and I sent a written cancellation through the Alpha Fitness website because Kerry B (owner) was never available at the gym. After 3 separate trips to the Hendersonville location, I was told EACH time that only Kerry can cancel the membership. In fact, I spoke to Cassie (an employee) and she was quite rude. She would not even let me see a blank contract until I argued with her long enough to finally see it. She told me I could "take a picture" of it rather than let me take it with me. I knew I had not signed a contract and I wanted her to show me MY signature on anything. She could not and therefore, became extremely aggravated. So, I mailed a cancellation letter to Kerry B. I, then, noticed that money had been taken out of my personal checking account without my authorization. The only reason they even had my routing number is because I had paid for a summer membership for my other college-aged son through a personal check the previous year. I filed a complaint with my bank so that Alpha Fitness could no longer take money from my bank account. Kerry finally emailed me (March 2, 2020) after 2 months of trying to cancel and he is now threatening late fees, back charges, and collections.

I want to emphasize I have gone out of my way to cancel by stopping by the gym personally on 3 occasions and I called at least twice. When I called, the employee said I had a 2-year contract based on her computer information. There is no way I agreed to a 2-year contract because my daughter will be going back to college in the fall. This made me very suspicious about how my personal information was being used and this mysterious contract. Kerry said I CANNOT cancel the membership because my daughter is 19 and is an adult. He claims that she has the contract and only she can cancel. This is wrong. I set up the membership for my daughter as a gift and I gave my credit card information so I should be able to cancel at any time. Kerry DID NOT have my authorization to take money from my checking account. This is illegal. He is now trying to strong-arm me and STILL will not let me cancel the membership. At this time, he is threatening more charges and late fees.

Please refer to the attached picture which claims that a new facility will be opening within weeks (that would be around February/March 2020). Recently, I was told by an Alpha Fitness staff member that this new location will now be opening in the summer of 2020. I've stopped by the new location and it is a run down, old warehouse with very little progress happening.

Desired Outcome

Cancellation. No additional charges. If they contacted the collections agency, I want my name cleared because I have never been late on a payment. I have always used automatic payments charged to my credit card.

The individual writing this concern is NOT a member of Alpha Fitness. She terminated her agreement on 3/30/2019. She has been an off and on member for a few years along with 3 children at various times. The daughter's membership ended 8/2019. She did not sign her daughter up, she paid for a one month membership for her daughter to use over the holidays at the Arden location. November 27th through December 27th. Her son was issued a one week pass *** December 16th valid through December 23rd also Arden location. Another son is a paid in full and in good standing. Each has their own membership separate from the mother. The siblings had been using both club access, verifiable by card reader. The daughter with the month access and son with one week access expired on December 27th respectfully, son respectfully December 23rd. Both accessed the club on December 25th, 27th, 29th. Staff spoke to both expired members on 1/4/2020 and explained their memberships expired on December 27th and December 23rd. The other brother was granting access to the facility via his key card. Staff allowed the siblings to work out on 1/4/2020 no charge. The siblings again accessed the facility on 1/5/2020 and had the same conversation. The siblings again came to the facility on 1/9/2020 and was denied access due to the expired memberships. The Daughter entered into a new agreement on that date for a one year membership. She chose to renew her membership with the information on an encrypted file through the third party billing company. As I explained to her mother she cannot cancel a membership that she did not enter into. However, what could be done was remove the form of payment but her daughter would have to update the payment information and as an adult responsible for the agreement. If she did not give her daughter permission that is between her and her daughter, not Alpha Fitness. It was explained very throughly this was fraudulent. The mother has changed her position each and every time from she paid a registration fee, not true, she signed her daughter up for a year, not true, she cancelled the account after the Arden location closed via the website portal, not true. As I stated to the mother, if her position was she cancelled the membership, why were here children in the facility on those days and her daughter continued to use the club throughout January. The day she called staff on January 9th staff even told her, her children were in the facility. I am appalled the mother has the audacity to state Alpha Fitness pilfered information from her son's account when information is encrypted, this is beyond slanderous. It is childish to take pictures of the new location when she is not a member and apply negative remarks about the location. It is sad, very sad this individual does not understand permits and city and county entities and the permit process. The building sits between the new ***. As the new *** Gas station are being built the building will be remodeled. This is just a classless act by an individual who gives others a bad demeanor with privileged entitlement behavior. I was appalled to learn today this individual had the audacity to state to another staff member who also is a young lady in a phone call her reputation is damaging for the facility. Without a doubt this is un-nerving behavior and can only hint from where that information came from. I wonder how this young lady's parents would feel to learn an adult shared disparaging remarks from an adult to another co-worker the young lady works with. I know how I feel. It is a shame I have to share this information with the young lady so she is not blind sided with any negativity. It is further unsettling this non-member reached out to a private address. It is redundant to post the back and forth emails, communication, it is mute and negative and will accomplish nothing but further negativity, fallacy which I will not waste any further energy on. The end result as of yesterday the daughter cancelled her membership as directed by Alpha Fitness.

I read the Alpha Fitness owner's response to my complaint and there are so many inaccuracies that I don't know where to begin. Rather than go "tit for tat," I will get to the point. I agreed to pay $60 ($29.95 for January and $29.95 for February + a little for good measure) just to cancel my daughter's membership for good. The owner backtracked on so many statements that he has made that I cannot address them all. When I arrived at the gym on 3/3/20, he handed my daughter a cancellation notice to sign. She paid him $60 in cash. I asked for the written contract he claimed to have stating that my daughter entered into a contract with Alpha Fitness and HE DID NOT HAVE IT. He, then, stated that he spoke to a young man who handled the original transaction in December and was told that it was a 1 month payment. Keep in mind, I paid a sign-on fee AND the going rate for each month. My monthly rate was less because I agreed to the 1 year automatic monthly renewal membership. My daughter was given a key tag and was able to access the 2nd location gym (Hendersonville) after about 2 weeks of the key not working. Below (in red) are just a few of his statements to Revdex.com that are simply not true and I can prove it. My daughter and I went together to the Arden location and signed her up in December 2019. He now claims this was a 1-month payment because he was not there when I paid for the membership and sign-on fee, and his employee did not give me a contract to sign. If the following statement were true, then why did he take 2 monthly installments out of my checking account without authorization in January 2020 and February 2020? He withdrew 1 payment of $29.95 in January and 1 payment of $29.95 in February. I made numerous, in-person, trips to the Hendersonville location to cancel this membership immediately after he was evicted from the Arden location by the Henderson County Sheriff's Department. My son had just signed up for a 2-week membership the day before there doors were locked and they were kicked out. He argued previously (on the Revdex.com complaint site) that I did not sign up in Arden, but yet, he replied to Revdex.com in this most recent explanation that I, did, in fact, sign up in Arden. This man is dishonest and has made so many false statements that I cannot begin to address them all. Bottom line, the membership is cancelled. I paid for 2 months even though my daughter stopped going to that gym, just to make sure he does not try to withdraw any additional money from my private checking account. My bank has been notified of these illegal transactions. I would also like to emphasize that my membership fees were set up to be charged to a credit card and NEVER to my bank account. This was illegal and unauthorized. I want all of his patrons to be aware that this could happen to them.

The daughter's membership ended 8/2019. She did not sign her daughter up, she paid for a one month membership for her daughter to use over the holidays at the Arden location. November 27th through December 27th. Not true and he took money from my personal account to pay for my daughter's membership fees in Jan. 2020 and February 2020. She was not home for the holidays. She lives with me.

gym shut down without any notice. Charged for cancellation fee and month fee for a gym that was shut down.
The gym shut down in December (without any notice) we got there one evening and the whole place was just shut down. No text, call, email, nothing. We always dealt with Brandon and just recently started dealing with Kerry because apparently Brandon was fired right after the gym shut down. My husband and I are both on the same account so the monthly charges just come out of my account. So we went on December 26th to cancel my husbands membership fee because the other gym was the opposite way of the way we needed to go and since the gym we went to shut down, we just needed to cancel. So we canceled his on the 26th and on the 27th I noticed I got charged 3 times! (26.45) Nobody told me on that day about getting charged more then once. I thought we were just paying the cancellation fee and that's it. So I called and got refunded one of the three charges because they couldn't figure out where that 3rd charge was coming from. But why should we have to pay a cancellation fee and the monthly membership fee if the gym was shut down. So then on Jan 8th, I went in to cancel my membership fee. I was told the charge would be 26.45 for that cancellation fee, which I have the receipt for. Next day I got on and was charged twice... Called on Monday to figure out why. *** the girl that I usually end up speaking with couldn't figure out why either. So on 1/17 I finally got in touch with the owner Kerry who said he told me I would be charged twice on that day.. Which is not true. He also said the reason he couldn't fix the some of the charges is because we went in on the day before we get drafted. Which the first time we came in to cancel my husbands that is true. We get drafted at the end of the month. But for mine we went in at the beginning of the month and he is still saying that's when we get drafted. I have all my bank statements for each month and we always get drafted from them at the end of the month. Nov 26, Oct 28, Sep 26, Aug 27, April 26, May 28, June 26, July 26 etc. Never at the beginning of the month. We was extremely rude on the phone. And Over the past two months dealing with the charging every single time *** and the other girl that is there tell me they will call me back within the day, that NEVER happens. Just within the past month I've had to call them 8 times on my phone not to mention my work phone because I guess they can't call people back. The whole point is, is that the gym shut down and we still had to pay a cancellation fee and monthly fee, which is upsetting because we were not told any of this when we signed up. I tried mentioning to the owner its not in the contract about you guys randomly shutting down and the customers still have to pay for the cancellation fee and monthly fee. My coworker also had to deal with the same thing so I know I'm not the only one upset. Whoever wrote on google the review that says ''Puddin' Head
6 reviews
AVOID! Kerry B thinks going out of business, ripping people off, and then reopening under a different name is going to fool anyone. This guy will rob you blind.'' speaks the truth.
I can't believe this place is still open. If you are going to shut a gym down do the right thing and don't charge people for a cancellation fee and membership fee. I honestly don't care if the other gym is within 8 miles, it is the opposite way of the way I need to go. Don't use that as an excuse as to why you can't refund money.

Desired Outcome

If he wants to give me my money back, great. But honestly I never want to speak to him again unless he's giving me my money back. I just want other people to know this is how he treats his customers.

To Whom It May Concern,

First and foremost the facility is being relocated. For some members this was sudden, however, in situations like this we can only address the situation by mass communication which was done. Tiffany and Lance A originally stopped by the facility on December 26th in the evening. The protocol was discussed on the process to terminate the agreement. Lance decided to cancel, Tiffany decided to freeze her account. Both attached. It was explained their draft due date is the 26th. Due to the amount already being drafted this does not serve as a 30 day notice. The account was drafted for Tiffany and Lance on the 26th, the third charge was for Lance's 30 day notice which was paid via debit card. This would show three charges, two from the regular draft, one for Lance's cancellation. Tiffany then came back on January 8th wishing to terminate her agreement. The form is attached. The memberships was frozen with no charge as a curtsey, it was removed as a curtsey and the agreement terminated. The members had additional time on their agreement and this was also waived as a curtesy. Tiffany's thirty day notice fee was taken at that time. The club location which was offered during the intern is within an 8 mile radius and within North Carolina State Statue. It is unfortunate Tiffany has taken the stance myself or the staff has been lacking in their approach to the situation, this is the furtherest thing from the truth. The only issue is a member being upset at not understanding the terms of agreement.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Everything he is saying is correct. But again, why should we be charged for something when they are the ones that shut down the location that WE went too. And why is he making some people pay for cancellations but not everybody? We got to Planet Fitness now, and quite a few members that use to go to his gym now go there and half of them are saying they were not charged and the other half are. Weird. And again, he keeps stating it is only 8 miles from the other location. True but its 8 miles the complete opposite way of which way we need to go. And instead of being a good business owner he's charging people cancellation fees and a monthly membership fee when we did nothing wrong. Just went to the gym one day and nothing was open. He couldn't even sent a text or email or letter to his customers letting them know. It's just sad he thinks we are in the wrong... I just know if I was a business owner and shut down one location that some customers went to I would NEVER charge a cancellation fee or membership fee for something thats not their fault.

The facility lease was not honored by the new building owner. This is outside the control of the lease. The majority of the members understand this was outside the scope and control of the circumstances of the facility. I will not address hearsay, hearsay is outside the control of the facility. However, it is easy to rumor, it is easy to be negative, all members have been treated accordingly to their membership. Perspective is key in this circumstance, it was handled in accordance to the membership agreement, consideration was given in waiving fee's. It is easy for an individual to state this or that, should of, could of, would of been done based on their perspective of this or that. As a facility we did the best we could with the circumstances, a mass communication was sent out, addressed accordingly, we can not help if that communication did not fit the personal criteria of the member, with over a thousand members, we took the best options available. I understand the frustration, just as frustrating is when someone responds with IF I owned a business I would do this or that instead. This is an interesting response since there is a difference between working for someone and following policy i.e Apple Tree Honda where the members work. According to those reviews, the negativity from those reviews is it necessary for me to respond with negativity based on possibly fictious reviews. I receive phones daily from members stating they do not like Planet Fitness and the member likes to keep throwing out this name. Those members will be joining Alpha Fitness. The member has stated what I wrote previously is accurate. I waived fee's, I waived charges, I terminated the agreement without charge. I was beyond fair, understanding. This conversation is becoming very redundant. I'm not going to address any further negativity.

In the previous statement yes the dates we came in and the amounts we were charged was accurate but This owner did not waive any fee's for us. I have bank statements and receipts from where we were charged multiple times. Both termination fees and monthly charge fees. So 4 fees charged to my bank account And its sad because according to Brandon we wouldn't be charged anything because it wasn't our fault. but of course Brandon isn't the owner and no longer works at this place. Surprise. One person says one thing and somebody else says another. It's over and done with my main goal was to just get my story out there. And why I wouldn't recommend to anyone.

12-17-2019 gym was padlocked letter posted on door stating that anyone entering would be charged with breaking and entering by Henderson Co. Sheriff.
Alpha Fitness aka Body Shop Gym at 2560 Asheville Hwy Hendersonville NC continues to bill monthly membership fee. They are billing cancelation fee even though the business has been shut down in Arden/Fletcher NC by Henderson County Sheriff - letter posted on door of business 130 Christel Ln Fletcher NC.

Desired Outcome

Cancel billing and credit account

To Whom It May Concern,

The building was not owned by the tenant. The tenant Alpha Fitness had a lease with the owner, the building was sold and the new owner evicted the tenant and declined to honor the lease. The process was placed on the door explaining the circumstances. The building is being relocated and once the as-builts are done will reopen. During the relocation process memberships are being honored at the Hendersonville location which is within State Statue of 8 miles. This was explained to the member originally through ASF, then again when the member stopped by the Hendersonville location on January 14th. The situation was explained to the member, honoring of membership at the Hendersonville location. The member was given the option to freeze his account until the new facility was open and this option was declined. Per the notes in the computer via staff the member was upset, understandable so, however, to take the transgression out on staff is not condoned. The member was explained the protocol on terminating the agreement, had a past due balance. The staff offered to waive the return item fee's, late fee's and instead chose to cancel his account by stopping the draft of the account. It was explained this does not stop the agreement and it will incur additional charges. The staff once again offered to freeze the account, the member did not want to pay the balance or the thirty day notice. Due to the nature of the members behavior he was asked to leave the facility.

AFTER 10 YEARS AT THIS GYM THEY WOULD RATHER LOSE A LOYAL CUSTOMER AND OVER $600.00 A YEAR THAN TO WAIVE A $20.00 CLUB MAINTENANCE FEE THAT WE NEVER SIGNED TO HAVE DRAFTED OUT OF OUR BANK. THIS FEE IS SUPPOSEDLY TO DO UPGRADES TO THE FACILITY. YEA RIGHT. ALL IT DOES IS GIVE THE NEW OWNER A NICE FAT BANK ACCOUNT. THE OLD OWNER KEVIN WAS FANTASTIC. WHATEVER YOU DO DONT JOIN THIS GYM OR GIVE THEM ACCESS TO A CREDIT OR CHECKING ACCOUNT. YOULL SOON REGRET IT. THERE ARE SEVERAL CLASS ACTION LAWSUITS NOW OVER FACILITY MAINTENANCE FEES. WE WILL DEFINITELY BE TALKING TO OUR ATTORNEY ABOUT THIS SHADY PRACTICE, ESPECIALLY WHEN NOTHING IS DONE TO IMPROVE THE FACILITY. THERE ARE TONS OF GYMS IN AND AROUND ASHEVILLE . I SUGGEST YOU JOIN ONE OF THOSE AS THIS PLACE WITH THE NEW OWNER HAS GONE TO *** IN A HANDBASKET. I SUGGEST YOU NOT TAKE MY WORD FOR IT BUT LOOK AT THE OTHER NEGATIVE REVIEWS LEFT HERE AND ALSO THE F RATING AT THE Revdex.com. ID BEVVERY SURPRISED IF THIS GYM LASTS MUCH LONGER WITH THE ATTITUDE THE NEW OWNER HAS. RUN FAR AWAY FROM THIS OVERPRICED FACILITY.
