Landscaping Contract Issues with:
Al's Landscaping & Nursery
Newington, CT
###-###-####
Late in 2014, we contracted to have extensive landscaping in [redacted], CT; all paid in advance:
Remove bushes in front of the house and plant a new variety of shrubs. New plastic sheeting was placed to rd weed growth.
25% of the shrubs did not survive the winter. The red crushed stones from the same area were not sifted and then placed on top of the plastic along with much soil. The result is that an abundance of weeds came up during the last season. That defeated the plastic covering for weed control.
Clean the slope of shurbs on the east side, removing and saving the red crushed stones for use elsewhere. Put new ground cover evergreens on the slope with added mulch.
None of the new shrubs survived the winter. Careless handling of the red stones; many were left in the lawn and not seen. When I mowed, the blades on my [redacted] riding mower snagged on the stones and bent the mowing deck. Repairs cost me $185.
The pathway on the east side was widened and a barrier of RR ties now holds it in place. New top soil and grass seed was put down.
The grass did not germinate. When I questioned why, I was assured that it would come up in the spring. I withheld 2% of the total job waiting for the grass to come up. The grass never came up or in other area where a new tree was planted.
Black plastic border was placed in two areas.
The lines are not straight and it's distracting.
On the west side of the driveway new shrubs were planted.
Now after a rain, water is ponding where it didn't before.
Trim existing "burning bushes" to a height of 5'.
Many were not trimmed even and were left at different heights; distracting.
I complained to their rep about these issues. They were not willing to correct anything. All they were interested in was wanting to collect the withheld 2% amount. Customer service is not in their vocabulary.
Compared to other quotes I received prior to the work, theirs was the most expensive. I favored them because of their on-site nursery and that they did my maintenance of our sprinkler system for years.
Very Dissatisfied Customer [redacted]
