I purchased an Altec Lansing M650 30-Pin iPod/iPhone Speaker Dock from [redacted].com on November 27, 2012. When the dock stopped working I contacted Altec Lansing for a replacement under the 1 year limited warranty on September 07, 2013.
Here is there response I received from their customer service:
I am so sorry that you are having difficulty with your product. Unfortunately there are so many online resellers of our products, that do not necessarily purchase them from one of our
approved dealers or retailers. A lot of resellers on [redacted] sell used products, and we do not honor our warranty for units purchased through them. Electronics Club is not an authorized retailer/reseller, I apologize! You will need to contact them directly for any warranty issues.
The receipt from [redacted].com clearly states that the product is in New condition.
After I received this response I found other posts from users with the same response from Altec Lansing customer service, almost verbatim.
Thankfully when I contacted [redacted] to confirm whether the product was New they offered a full refund without question.
Eventually Altec Lansing offered to exchange the product, but that it would be a one time exception. My concern is that they are telling customers that they will only honor their warranty if it was purchased from an authorized reseller, but this is not stated anywhere in their warranty policy.
