--------- Forwarded message ----------From: BBB of Metro Washington DC <[email protected]>Date: Mon, Sep 14, 2015 at 10:22 AMSubject: Fwd: You have a new message from the BBB of Metro Washington DC & Eastern Pennsylvania in regards to your complaint # [redacted] .To: [redacted] < [redacted] @mybbb.org>---------- Forwarded message ----------From: [redacted] < [redacted] @***.com>Date: Fri, Sep 11, 2015 at 7:12 PMSubject: Re: You have a new message from the BBB of Metro Washington DC & Eastern Pennsylvania in regards to your complaint # [redacted] .To: [email protected] [redacted] ( [redacted] ),Sorry if I seemed a little (or a lot) frustrated in our conversation. I just cannot believe that a company would knowingly build something that is clearly going to prematurely fail so they can save a few bucks at the manufacturing stage. Consumer awareness is the thing that the BBB is best known for and that is why I spent the extra time trying to help you understand the magnitude of the problem. In my case the website clearly said "Carbon steel or Stainless steel - it's your choice" and as you can see from the attachment everywhere the exhaust gasses pass. Well I made my decision to elect SS based on his very strong recommendation and then he failed to give it to me. Consequently, it is a mistake that has already cost me $40,000 and all so he could save somewhere around $1,000 at manufacture. The current website does not give the option for stainless steel (SS) and places it only in the firebox. Well they are providing a "downdraft" boiler and the primary combustion occurs under the firebox in a ceramic refractory that goes up to 2,100 degrees and that exhaust goes into the unprotected carbon steel pathways that clearly were degraded to the point of being a firetrap which rendered the boiler to very expensive scrap steel. Consumers deserve to know what they are buying when making a wood-fired boiler selection and the BBB is a prime vehicle to convey known problems. Ultimately, the goal being for manufacturers to have additional incentive to build products without known defects. I apologize for not providing this warranty to you previously. I thought that I had. I received it for the first time about 6 months after the purchase. It should be noted that they treat the commercial side quite differently. Unlike the residential warranty there is no consideration for whether you pay the extra $5,000 for stainless steel and they also give 1/2 the warranty when it should be no different than residential. Its back to the fact if they made them with all stainless steel the "pyrolysis" they know to fear would be greatly reduced and the life of the boiler greatly extended. Why would they do that? To sell more boilers... As requested, we are filing a lawsuit against Brian W [redacted] dba Alternate Heating Systems, LLC and Jeff G [redacted] individually. Our inclusion of the BBB is primarily in the interest of the current and future consumers and to also influence Mr G [redacted] to build boilers that will reasonably survive the rigors they are supposed to have been designed for...
