I have tried to notify the complex about black mold in my apartment, and they will not take care of it or investigate it.
So back at the end of July, I came home to find that my kitchen was flooded due to a leak upstairs. Water was coming from a crack in my ceiling, which wasn't really surprising, given the fact that ever since I moved here in October, at least two to three times a month the water was temporarily shut off so they could do "maintenance". I put in a service request after also finding what looked like extreme water damage and black mold under my sink.
Someone came out with a shop vac and vacuumed up the water on my floor, took pictures of the cabinet under my sink, and told me he was going to show the office manager. He returned after about ten minutes, and said they would have to have a renovation team come and bust out my ceiling and the wall, and that they would be back in the morning to take care of it. The next day I returned home and found that he had taken the shop vac he left overnight, but nothing else looked any different. I received an email saying that my request had been completed. A few days later I ran into the maintenance guy that had looked at it, and he told me they were going to bring a fan to dry the wall because "all you have to do to kill it is dry it out".
...almost a month went by, and when I went into the office to pay rent I spoke to the office manager who asked me how everything was. I told her about what had happened, and she said she never saw any pics that he had taken and knew nothing about it. She told me that she would have her head maintenance guy come and look at the water damage and that if they found anything it would be taken care of. The maintenance manager came and busted out the bottom of my cabinet (the wood was so soft he easily broke through it with his hand), and after doing this we saw a huge collection of what looked exactly like black mold underneath. After arguing with me and telling me it was just mildew, he went and got the office manager, who took pictures and told me that they were going to get a moisture team in to test the wall for any moisture, and test a section of mold that was left for them to examine. I have her on recording telling me this. I told her I wanted a copy of the test that confirmed what I had here was in fact mildew.
That was yesterday. I got home a couple of hours ago to find that they peeled back some of my wall and placed a fan there, (obviously there WAS moisture behind the wall, and god knows what else) but surprise surprise... no test... no call or email telling me what they found. I called to ask what the hell was going on and she told me she spoke to her manager about it, and that she said that "it wasnt that bad" and so they arent having it tested. Remember, I HAVE A RECORDING of her telling me they would test it, which Ill gladly share to anyone who asks.... I am absolutely livid right now.. Attached are images of water damage under my sink, and the growth on my wall.
Im going to call the city inspector tomorrow and see if they will come out and test for black mold. If they do in fact find that it is black mold, id like a refund of all my payments from my lease because ive been living in an unsafe environment and i could possibly have health problems in the future. Not treating black mold and eradicating it is an absolute lease violation.
We regret that the water intrusion in your apartment home was not handled with strong communication between our team and yourself. Once the issue was brought to the attention of our Management team, we ensured via professional mitigators that no moisture existed within the home and removed all areas affected. We should not have communicated that mold testing was something we provide. We comply with Texas statutes and only handle in house what we are professionally equipped to handle. We've confirmed the cause of the intrusion was repaired and again that no growth or moisture exists within the home. We've since allowed for you to be released from your lease for not communicating well with you throughout the process but haven't heard back in a while about your wanting to move out. We are so sorry you dealt with a leak! We wish we could always prevent them but are happy to have completed all repairs in relation to the issues the first week of September. Water issues
In the matter of a few weeks, we have gone NUMEROUS days without water. They have the hot water turned off with little to no notice for us and they turn the water off all day for "repairs" but nothing ever gets fixed.
I want the water to be working. They keep saying it's being fixed but there is no resolution being provided by the apartment management.
5/9/19 our Boiler was not producing hot water. We called a local repair company out 5/9 and they got the hot water going and needed to order a part to make repairs. Notices were sent to all residents that we were waiting for a part to be overnighted and repairs would be made 5/11/19 by the Outside vendor. The notices that were sent out stated the water would be turned off while the repairs were in progress. We also offered all residents a vacant apartment where they could shower due to the inconvenience. The repairs were made 5/11/19 and there have been no issues since.
