We have already agreed to accept the equipment back and issue a refund. The customer filed for a return request on 12/31/2015. As of this writing, I informed the customer that today is a holiday and our returns department would be available to respond to their Return Merchandise Request (RMA) on Monday or Tuesday.According to the RMA, the customer expected a "WiFi" unit but ordered the incorrect model.  Regardless, even if the customer mistakenly ordered the wrong item, we have already agreed to accept it back for a refund.I have attached the email correspondence to show we have been both polite and willing to resolve his issue.Regards, Ed

The WS-1200-IP is what the customer ordered, not the WS-1200. The WS-1200-IP does connect to the Internet with a LAN cable. There are thousands of consumers using the WS-1200-IP to connect to the Internet. The customer is confusing LAN (Ethernet connect** with a cable) with WLAN (wireless or WiFi). The WS-1200-IP does not connect via WiFi, nor does it claim to. It does connect to your router (and Internet) using a LAN cable.

Ambient Weather advertises that the 1200 ip unit will connect with the Weather Underground website to report local unit information. We did not order the wrong item. It is advertised on Amazon.com to do exactly what I have been asking for. They need to change their description on the website as it is false advertising if we ordered the "wrong" item.[redacted]

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

Regards,

This is not an acceptable response for two reasons. One, they fail to recognize that their product was actually only used for a year, and actually less than that. Gifts given around Christmas are often not used right away, which is why many companies allow additional windows for things such as returns. They realize people may not be in a place to return them or use them right away. In addition to not installing it immediately we moved from Virginia to Kansas in June. Our boxes were not even completely unloaded until August, the product was not even reinstalled until late September when we were more settled. For this reason the total life of the product was about 10 months, actually a little less. No company should sell a product and know that it will not work much over a year or less as was the case with both mine and my fathers.  The second reason their response is not acceptable to me is their complete lack of acknowledging their poor customer service. Their agent was disrespectful and also lied to me. Both the companies response to a problem and their product are completely unacceptable. I see that they made a new transmitter but it is not even for sale anymore. So basically what they are saying is too bad we sold a bad product and you are out of luck. I would consider purchasing another transmitter if that had been an option but it was not.  This product was not on the market that long and my belief is because it was unsatisfactory and they could not reasonably continue to sell a product that had a part that didn't meet their standards.  I have a vacuum that is 25 years old but I can still buy replacement parts for it. How come the replacement parts are no longer available for this product when it was only on the market for about four years? I hope that their rating with the Revdex.com changes due to my experience with this product and the countless other negative reviews they have received on amazon. Their current rating does not represent them well. They believe it is acceptable to disrespect their customers and make substandard products.

We have a one year warranty and this is about three months out of warranty. The warranty period begins at the time of receipt and not installation of the equipment.

The customer ordered this item on December 8, 2012. This item includes a one year warranty. The customer requested a return on March 6,2014. This is 89 days out of warranty.

Therefore, the customer is not eligible for warranty replacement.

Review: I am going to repost a lengthy review I posted about this product and customer service I received.

I would rate this produce 0 stars if possible. I purchased two of these weather stations on December 8th 2012, to give as Christmas presents. One for my father and one for my husband. My father's broke 1 year to the day it was installed (December 25th), and he requested a refund about a month later after trying to trouble shoot it himself. His was replaced. The company made an exception. I gave mine to my husband on December 25th but we spent until Jan 16th at my parents home in Florida. When we returned to Virginia it was much too cold to install and it wasn't installed until late February or early March. That would be March of 2013. Flash forward to February of 2014. We spent a couple of weeks in the hospital with my daughter and when we returned the transmitter had just stopped working. We did all of the trouble shooting things and contacted technical support. Who assured me that there was nothing that could be done if the transmitter had just stopped working. She did not even attempt to help me fix the product. In hindsight I believe she knew they were faulty. I contacted the company in early March '14 and requested a replacement. I actually enjoy the product and just wanted a functioning transmitter.

My request was denied though an email; they said I was outside of the 1 year warranty. Which I clearly was. A reasonable company however would be able to look at this and the fact that I gave two order numbers with non functioning transmitters and they had already replaced my fathers. I gave his name and his order number as well. Clearly their product is faulty. 25 people have had non-functioning units in the amazon reviews, and I had 2 of 2 go bad in 12/13 months. They just flat out refused. I had called customer service to discuss this with a supervisor (my call was not returned). I continued to call, probably about 30 times but no one ever answered until I called the technical support line back. The woman informed me that she could help me with my return. After giving my name I was immediately put on hold for several minutes. The woman came back on the line and explained that she spoke with her supervisor and there was no way they would be issuing a replacement given that it was past the warranty. I was of course upset because I feel like given the situation with purchasing two faulty units they would make an exception. They are more than capable of making an exception. Given that they already have once that I know of personally.

The woman I spoke with was one of the most disrespectful customer services agents I have ever encountered. No make that the most disrespectful. She kept repeating the same things over and over, that it was not just a few days past and if it was they would make an exception. Except when I asked her why they made an exception for my father she had no answer. I continuously asked to be connected with the supervisor she was speaking with and she REFUSED. At one point she asked for my number but never allowed me to give it to her. She was raising her voice and told me that she would not argue with me about the warranty. First of all I was not asking her to argue about the warranty I was repeatedly asking to speak with her supervisor. I did not want to speak with her at all, the purpose of my call was to speak with a supervisor. I mentioned this immediately when discussing my problem, before she ever went to speak with him. I have no idea why someone would be so rude, especially dealing with a loyal customer who is explaining that they enjoy the product and bought two of the same products!

BUT TO TOP IT OFF THE WOMAN HUNG UP ON ME. SHE LITERALLY HUNG UP ON A CUSTOMER. She informed me that she would no longer explain it and would be hanging up. I continued to ask to be transferred and she denied my request. She also flat out lied and said her supervisor was no longer in. Which means one of two things. She lied about speaking with him or her OR she had some issue with me and would not connect me. Either way her behavior was completely out of line. Especially for someone in customer service.

There products must only be meant to last 1 day past the warranty period. I have no idea how this business received an A+ rating. I have dealt with many companies for a variety of issues over the years and most companies are reputable enough to make things right when they have a bad product.Desired Settlement: I would just like to receive a functioning transmitter. I see that the product has been discontinued. I believe this is probably due to knowledge of a faulty product. If there is no exact replacement available I would like an equal product.

Review: This actually involves both the product and exchange issues. We've been in contact with customer support on and off for a few months trying to get the weather station equipment to work as advertised. The weather station is supposed to be able to connect to a Weather Ground weather service allowing the station to relay local information and make it publicly available for their online services. The weather station itself seems to be able to collect the information and a separate piece of equipment displays the information. There is a simple indoor sensor that is also working. Where we have a current issue (we've had others that we were able to get a missing piece or actually even order in Hawaii) is being able to communicate with the online server. They included a plastic IP server which they claim allows you to connect to the site. We've tried all configurations including the additional ones they suggested (not in their included instructions) and ones we've used in the past for other equipment. None worked. Tech support there has been treating us like we don't know anything about computers often in a patronizing tone and not addressing the issue. Only responding with general canned answers. We have the emails as we've insisted on a paper trail. We've seen in other comments about the product that there were prompt exchanges or solutions in the past, yet they continually refuse to address our issues.Desired Settlement: Replacement of defective equipment or refund.
