The date of the Oil Change service was 7/22/2016. The engine related service that the customer received was and Oil Change and new Oil Filter. This process lets out old, brunt oil and replaces it with new oil. This is lubricant for the engine. The new filter helps filter the oil and keep the engine...

clean. The complaint states that the oil light came on 3 days after the service, however it does not state when he returned to the shop, so we can not speak to how long he was driving with the oil light on, only that it was between 3 and 40 days, since this notification was mailed to us 10/31/16 which is 40 days after the initial service date. Our manager claims that the driver did not come back until two weeks later, however we did not issue an invoice to him for the replacement oil since we replaced it for free, so there is no invoice date to be certain. Our manager also states that the client did not tell him the check engine light was on, just asked us to check the oil. Our manager states that he did not observe a check engine oil light on at any time during the visit. If a vehicle's check engine light comes on after an oil change, the first thing you do is check the oil level. When the client returned asking us to check the oil level, our technicians first checked the engine oil level and if it is low they check for leaks. Our technicians found that the engine oil was low but also very burnt as if the engine was overheating, however they found no leaks. Our technicians told the customer that he has an older engine and may have to have it checked out because it seemed as though it was consuming/burning off more oil than it should be. They topped off the engine with oil, and the engine ran smoothly when it left. Our technicians instructed him to check his oil levels to make sure it wasn't burning off because there might be an issue with the engine. Older Celicas also have a reputation for having oil consumption issues. We did not hear from the customer again after this meeting and this Revdex.com notification was the next correspondence we received. The client never spoke to us about changing his engine, so we can not confirm on our end that the engine was indeed in need of replacement or how long the driver may have driven the vehicle with low oil if the client did not continue to monitor his oil level. As stated earlier, the vehicle ran smoothly when we replaced the oil. There was no evidence of engine noise before or after the oil was added, in addition to no oil light being on. We added 4.5 quarts of oil to the vehicle on 7/22/16. When the client returned and we saw that it was low, we added 3 quarts. That means that the engine burned off 3 quarts of oil in the time it took him to bring it back. The reason we believe it was burnt off was because you could not drive a vehicle for that long with that little oil in your engine, it had to be burning off and being consumed by the engine. When we replaced the oil and the vehicle ran smoothly it is the customers responsibility to monitor the engine. There is nothing bout the quality of bottled oil or a filter that can make it burn off faster and cause this issue. We can not take responsibility for an engine issue that we did not observe. The client only claims that the car was running fine before the 7/22/16 service and then had problems. Our records indicate that he has only been serviced at our location twice, the last time being 1/30/2015 for a non synthetic oil change a little under 2000 miles ago. If the customer has not gotten an oil change since then, which we can only speak to our records, it would mean that he went a year and a half between oil changes. The recommended frequency for non synthetic oil changes is 3,000 miles or 3 months whichever is sooner. The point being for a vehicle with 121,776 miles proper maintenance and service is very important, and we can not speak to the long term condition and maintenance of the vehicle. A mechanic would be the only person to verify the issues with that engine, which we have received no information from.
