AMEK Custom Builders Reviews (2)

March 29, 2018To the Revdex.com and our client,We are disappointed that communication between us has deteriorated to this pointWe are committed to addressing all issues. You are correct that we have not yet completed the work on your homeDue to delays in scheduling our siding subcontractor
last fall, we ran out of time before frost to install your drivewayGutters have also not been installed due to weather. The new front door installed was a ThermaTru prefinished door with a color of “coffee” as specified in your contractHowever, what we understand your complaint to be was that the door jambs were not prefinishedWe agree that we paid to have the jambs finished onsite.Due to a breakdown in our communication, we do not know how the “door to garage does not work properly” nor why the “lights installed after siding installed do not work.” We would be more than happy to come fix these items (as well as look for solutions to the bow in the wall where trim was installed) - and have offered to do so previouslyHowever, it seems clear to us that you do not want us on your property againWe have no way of knowing if these items represent adjustments that may take a couple hours or a couple days. You are also correct that you had clearly stated multiple times that you wanted to be onsite for the final exterior inspectionWe did attempt to accommodate that desire only for you to cancel the inspectionYour email from March at 10:pm to cancel a second time was not seen by our field manager until minutes before the inspection on March at 3:00pmTherefore the decision was made (as long as our field manager and the city inspector were onsite) to conduct theinspectionIt passed inspection with no concerns from the city inspector. In an email dated January you agreed to financial considerations for us cancelling the driveway and gutters from your contractIn giving you the benefit of the doubt, we are willing to credit you another $1,for the garage door, electrical, and trim itemsThis represents man hours at $80/hrAdditionally, we would be willing to coordinate an inspection with a 3rd party at your convenience.Sincerely,Peter ***Operations Manager

Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2015/12/11) */
On 11/25/14, the specifications for the garage door were approved by the customer via email. The specifications clearly indicated that the door would be steel. About 6 months later, the customer indicated he wanted the garage door to be gel...

stained to match the front door. Unfortunately, this is only possible with a fiberglass garage door, not a steel door. AMEK agreed to paint the garage door to match the color of the front door as closely as possible. The customer was unhappy with the resulting product. AMEK offered to repaint the garage door and trim to try and get a closer match, but the client refused and would only be satisfied with a brand new door and trim. We find this demand unnecessary and ultimately inadequate to provide a better color match than has already been obtained.
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 7, 2015/12/14) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
AMEK neglected key information within their response. Upon initiating the contract, we stated we would like a garage door fabricated to look like wood. Prior to selecting the garage door on 11/25/14, AMEK verbally verified the door was compatible with the gel stained used on the front door so they'd match. Our intentions of gel staining were re-iterated in March, July, and early August. We were completely unaware a latex paint had been chosen by AMEK until the door had been painted. We were not informed the garage door could not be stained until an email dated 10/7/2015. The replacement of the garage door was negotiated as a way to end this contract for us. AMEK walked away from this contract prior to completion and customer satisfaction. We had agreed to settle for the garage door and take it upon ourselves to contract with another firm the rest of the work. I'd like to add the cost of these repairs (staining patio door, fixing loose window trim, replacing cedar garage trim--mistakenly painted by AMEK, painting patio door trim to match) to this complaint.
We'd like to add that the 10/7/2015 referenced a doll
ar amount of 861.94 was to be refunded. I'd like to add that to this claim.
Overall the quality of the work was poor. Another examples of miscommunication occurred where AMEK neglected to identify they would no longer taking the old shutters off the house. My siding removed was discarded prior to removing the shutters. Now, there are mismatched patches to fill in where the shutters were removed. This will now something I will have to live with.
AMEK has done nothing to settle this contract. AMEK has not initiated a contact with us since last January and left the contract only 80% finished. All attempts for completion have been customer oriented. I want to be able to achieve a fair settlement as quickly as possible.
Final Consumer Response /* (2000, 20, 2016/01/15) */
Final Business Response /* (4000, 19, 2016/01/15) */
We will issue a refund check in the amount of $861.94 immediately.
