America Works of New York Reviews (1)

Review: This company was supposed to help individuals with obtaining a job. In January I was placed with this company and began seeking employment. Through a civil service exam that I took November **, 2011 I received an interview letter stating I was selected to come to One Police Plaza on January **, 2014 at 11am to begin my hiring process. This company that my complaint is against, America Works, needs all time accounted for so I told my corporate representative about the letter and he made a copy. The letter explains that my appointment started at 11am but I needed to arrive half an hour earlier. It also stated that I would need to be at One Police Plaza all day so be prepared to be there for all of those hours. My representative took the copy and that was all on that matter. The [redacted] of January after my interview I was required to go straight to the [redacted] office in the morning. There was a snow storm and I arrived late. I went through all the necessities, as far as acquiring about new jobs in my field and then I headed to the [redacted] office after signing out. When I arrived at the [redacted] office that Friday I was prepared to give my representative my results from the interview which was a follow up medical appointment. My representative did not come to work so I asked the receptionist do I have to stay if the representative is not there? He was unsure. So due to the weather I left and went home.

Returning to my representative on Monday morning I was told that I will be getting a FTC (failure to comply) do to the fact I did not show up on Thursday (my interview day) and the multiple hours I was missing on Friday.

So this brings me to my complaints:

1) The incomplete explanation of me needing to come in the same day as my interview

2) The lack of knowledge by staff when I inquired about the need for me to stay that Friday

3) The overcrowding and under staffing of the [redacted] and [redacted] sites which leads to many applicants being late for interviews and other appointments

4) The fact that when you enter the program there is a intake packet of almost 20 pages of rules and regulations that they tell you to sign and return to them so you then have no reference to the procedures you may need to follow without being reprimanded or FTC'd (failure to comply)

5) The unprofessional manner of the [redacted] who later called me COMBATIVE for wanting all further notices copied for my protection

6) The fact that after I asked for those copies the [redacted], named [redacted], then discussed with different employees our encounter and those employees then began acting rudely towards me.

7) The lack of professionalism continued this past Friday (2-**-14) when around 4:45 pm employees started discussing how they needed a beer and that they would walk out the door no matter what was going on. By 4:50 I was just about the only client left that still needed to see a representative and witnessed an employee walking around the office in there socks. This same employee walks over looking at me and ask my representative if she "is about to be mad". My representative then says "more like [redacted]f".

All rules and requests have been followed to the best of my capability and at this time it seems that this agency does not want me present do to the fact I am much more attentive when signing any paperwork or other matters the representatives request of me. This place was supposed to help in my job search but instead it lead to me losing my shot at the interview I went to at One Police Plaza as well as my benefits. As a result I am no longer up next for the position and I am behind in my rent, while being completely without any money.Desired Settlement: If it is possible I would like to be moved to a different center where I believe the workers are looking for my best interest, since I am already in a vulnerable situation.
