In March of I contacted this business to have my driveway repaved They explained that the hot mix plant would not open until approximately April 15th, and they had customers booked in front of me We discussed the beginning of May as a tentative project date Approximately beginning to middle of May I called to find out when they would be out to complete the work and was given May 19th as a start date On May 19th they did not show or call so I called them and spoke with a lady in the office She explained that inclement weather, understandably beyond their control, had set them back I explained I needed the project done prior to Memorial Day, Sunday May 25th, and she assured me it would be completed prior to that day I called again on Friday May 23rd, when they again failed to show or call me and reached an answering service where I left a message that if they couldn't honor their commitment to have it completed by May 25th, I was not interested in having them complete the project I never received a call from the company or any explanation The project was to have a driveway repaved and widened as well as increasing the length of the drive

I hired Matthews Moving Systems (MMS) for local move services late July The process moved fairly smoothly until moving dayWhile the movers appeared to work hard, they were very slowThe entire move took hours and the two houses were only a minute drive away from each other
Throughout moving day, there were several large pieces of furniture with which the crew greatly struggledA dresser slid down the stairs, a futon frame cracked rendering it unusable, other pieces scraped newly painted walls which now require touch up painting and one mover's knee went through a glass side panel of our china hutch, breaking the glass in half
The crew informed me that a representative from MMS would contact or visit me in the next day or two to address the repair of the damaged hutchAfter almost a week had passed and no one had contacted us, I called MMS to discover I had a to complete and submit a claim formI was forwarded to a voicemail and instructed to leave a message and a claim form would be emailed that dayA few days later and no claim form had been received so I called again and was able to speak with a person in the claims departmentWe discussed the matter of the china hutch briefly and she instructed me to write "repair" on the claim form and not to worry about the value/weight/cost of the hutch as this was a "repairable" issue and I was not seeking monetary compensation but rather repair of the damaged piece of glass
The claim form was submitted to MMS within a weekOver the following two weeks, I left numerous voicemails and a couple emails for the claim department to confirm receipt of the form and get an update on the status of our claimI received only one email informing me the claim was in reviewNo calls were returned
I then received a check in the mail (no repair was completed)When I called to complain, I received only an email (no return call) stating they had elected to settle the claim based on the valuation optionI received no explanation or calculation as to how they determined the weight of the china hutch which leads me to believe they chose an arbitrary number which fit their needsI'm certain the weight they based the claim on is far less than the actual weight of the piece of furnitureMore so, I'm disappointed at the misinformation provided throughout the process -- by the crew and again by claims -- telling me this would be repairedAt no time during the review of my claim was I alerted they might choose to use a valuation option insteadIn fact, I was instructed that certain items did not need to be completed on the form as this damage would be repaired not compensated monetarilyThis denied me the opportunity to provide value, weight and cost information on which the claim should have been processed
Overall, I was disappointed with the service provided by Matthews Moving Systems and especially the manner in which the claim process was managed

Driveway is now 7 years old . For the first two years the driveway was soft and when turning the car wheels it tore up the top layer. Now it has a low spot and three areas cracked straight across the drive.. I expected a lot longer life out of the pavement but am afraid I'll have to have it re-done. Friends that have had drives done by other companies have gotten much longer service.

Review: My Mom is 87 years old. Just got out of the hospital a few weeks ago. She doesn't own or drive a car. She hasn't driven in about 10-15 years. This contractor came knocking on her door and said that she needed her driveway resealed. This is the 2nd time they have done this in 2 years. They charged her $1800 for resealing a 7x120 foot driveway. What can be done to stop them from taking advanage of older people. She lives in a small town ([redacted]). Average price should be about $500.Desired Settlement: $1300, report to police.

Review: American Asphalt came to ** & [redacted]'s door and offered to seal driveway. Verbally agreed to .30 a squ. foot which would come to $1200.00 (no contract). When job was done company wrote a proposal with a scratched amount, not itemized with a flat amount due $5900.00. Way over what was agreed. Both ** & [redacted] are over 85 years old and felt pressured and scared so they wrote the check. Son, [redacted] is assisting his parents with filing complaint with the Revdex.com. [redacted] has called [redacted] Sheriff who is investigating what he called the "[redacted] bunch" who are working as American Asphalt.Desired Settlement: 4700.00
