Dear [redacted],
This response is in regard to a complaint submitted to the Revdex.com on December 15, 2014. The complaint ID is [redacted].
The American Council on Education College Credit Recommendation Service (CREDIT) connects workplace and non-traditional learning with colleges and universities by helping students gain access to academic credit for formal training taken outside traditional degree programs. Each ACE CREDIT review is carried out by a team of subject matter faculty experts who currently serve at universities and community colleges. Together they evaluate whether the learning experience meets the content, scope, rigor and assessment standards currently in place at colleges and universities.
With over 35,000 courses reviewed. CREDIT is the national leader in the evaluation process for education and training obtained outside the classroom including courses, exams, apprenticeships and other types of non- traditional training. Each receiving institution reviews the ACE Transcript recommendations and determines if and how specific recommendations may meet requirements for the degree programs in which students are enrolled. However, institutions are not required to award transfer credit. Each institution, and in many cases, each academic unit and department within each institution, sets its own policies for granting credit. ACE does not guarantee the acceptance of ACE credit recommendations at any institution. Students should contact the admissions office at the college they plan to attend to determine the acceptability of the course for academic credit prior to enrolling.
We are sorry to hear that [redacted]’s credit was not accepted by the institution of her choice. Since the acceptance of denial of transfer credit determined by the institution at its sole discretion, and not ACE, a refund of transcript cost would not be appropriate in this case.
Similarly, ACE cannot be held responsible for any fees or costs associated with enrolling in a course offered by an ACE Participating Organization regardless of the acceptance or denial of transfer credit. The student should contact ALEKS directly with any reimbursement requests.
On our website we provide question and answer guidance for students looking to apply ACE credits at an institution and for students who face barriers in the acceptance of their earned credit through our College and University Partnership department. An example is below and the full webpage may be viewed here.
How do colleges make decisions about the transfer of ACE credit recommendations?Academic deans, department chairs, and provosts make decisions about their institution’s transfer policies. They consider the ways in which the training compares to their course offerings and the fit to the student’s degree program. A college may also determine transfer policies based on standards of regional or professional accrediting bodies. See: What is Accreditation?
If you have already completed one of the courses or examinations, or plan to take one, you should contact the admissions office at the college you plan to attend to determine the acceptability of the course for academic credit.
What should I do if the college does not accept my ACE credit recommendations?
If a college has denied your request to transfer your ACE credit recommendations, you could try to appeal the decision. Every college has an appeal process, which is often described in the college catalog. Find out what documentation you will need to provide and to whom you should direct your appeal. The college may request that you provide additional information about your training, such as a syllabus.
If the college is not familiar with ACE credit recommendations and transcripts, the CEAI Resource Center can provide additional information.
ACE’s CEAI Resource Center provides services to assist you in the application of your ACE credit recommendations. If a college has denied your request to transfer your ACE credit recommendations, you can contact the Resource Center for assistance by completing the online form.
For further assistance, call the Resource Center's toll-free number at ###-###-####.
Sincerely,Kara G
