Review: I talked with you again today regarding the air conditioning problem with American Heating + Air [redacted]

On 8/18/15 called “[redacted]” of American to see unit at a rental of mine [redacted]. I could not be there so renters let him work on unit. He called me and told me that unit had cut wired, (he knew I had homeless break ins). But to get to unit he had to tear off 4’of molding + cover to unit to repair. I don’t think homeless is going to repair damages to door + moldings + repaint if they cut wires. None missing. Then presented bill of $620.00 told me first approx. $400.00. I was shocked. During his time w/renters he told then unit had been installed wrong + that I needed new compressor (which is outside) and a new unit. When he was on phone he told me unit needed to be replaced at the cost of $9,200.00. This house is approx. 1000 sqft no more than 1100 sqft. I told him no that only problem I ever had was low freon. Then he said he had to rewire die to high voltage. I told him to just repair. Then renters called again + said not working + he returned next day due to not working + he said a/c ok, renters just complaining. But he then put freon charge 10 lbs @ $55.00 per lb + $175.00 labor. Renters called + said not working + he clean evap coil, (why not 1st visit) since he was there to check unit + repairs. So he says he cleaned + chemical treatment done. He also told me wrong size of filters + no such size made. I want my contractor to house + had filter put on of correct size. This visit was $225.00. So total was $845.00. None made sense to me + told him his quote was really off of what he told me of the “extensial” repairs he made. Still says he can replace unit at 9,200.00 + give me 50% credit of repairs on new unit. Renters were irate with me wanting new unit since repairman told them dangerous. I called another company that advertise free insp + 2nd opinion. I checked them out + good. Renters refused entry to him service times + kept up the fight. I finally got renters out and had the new a/c guy look at it (I was there) + he showed me inside of unit + didn’t seem to find new wires + could not explain the high voltage. The new a/c man said he would be honest w/me + told me how much freon cost them + said chrg of freon included labor in the price. $17.00 for freon + $50 $55.00 charge to do the recharge. The first problem a/c guy said heater not working, I told him not to touch. New guy did find heater needed 2 new parts which he replaced while I was there + he showed me where they were in need of repairs. I ask the new guy + he said a new unit for that house would be approx. $3,000.00 to $3,200.00. But he fixed heater + all was working. Back to the 1st guy American Heating + Air he would not send me bill (he did send one to renters). Which I never got from them + you can see his bill (1st) was addressed to rental, when I gave him my address in different town. Which is outskirts of Modesto. I live in Riverbank. He kept calling me 3-4 times a day + living. I told him I would be out of town + would leave payment w/daughter + gave him her address. He never went there, when I returned I got ck back + and he refused to send to my home. Said he sent e mail, I only finally got one on cell phone. It did not say cut wires. I requested an itemized bill + it took months of fighting to get. He showed up at my home on a Saturday. I only answered by remote on my door. He was mad + wanted his money. I told him about ck at daughters + he never picked up. Wanted to meet w/me. He has harassed me continually so I told him state contractors were involved + that I had called you. Contractors board only said they didn’t handle money dispute. Did not look at unit. Contactors board did try to reduce price but he said no.Desired Settlement: I gave him $400.00 in good faith until I could try to resolve this problem. He is now back to the phone calls, but nothing in mail or writing. This guy worries me, he reminds me of a terrorist, (only due to actions) + refused to send me anything by mail. One last note, I had my heatering unit replaced at my home just this past week + I asked my a/c man, that was sent by my, company + he said he didn’t understand the nigh voltage, never heard of + the cost of new a/c for $1100 sqft house he said same. Probably around 3,000-3,800 depending on install situation.
